<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

la surface de séparation entre la pièce terminale et l'anneau métallique peut être dans un plan non perpendiculaire par rapport au conducteur de courant, et est, de préférence, courbée dams la direction de celui-ci. Un câble peut fixé aux enveloppes métalliques du tube à rayons X et du transformateur, respectivement au moyen d'un capuchon dont le fond est perce d'une ouverture pour le pas- sa.ce du câble et qui est fixe à l'enveloppe métallique de manière à entourer au .,.oins en partit;
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>

In such an arrangement, an x-ray tube having an all-glass wall which is cylindrical can be used.
This wall, which is covered, if necessary, with an intermediate insulating material, is surrounded by a metal casing connected to the earth, through which pass the insulated high voltage cables. Preferably, a tube 8, X-rays is used. the outer wall of which is partially made of metal, the non-metallic part of this wall being surrounded by a metal casing.
Very good results have been obtained by virtue of the use of such partially metallic X-ray tubes, the metallic outer wall of which is insulated from the cathode as well as from the anticathode and in which, preferably, the metallic shell is fixed. to the metal part of the tube wall.
Preferably, the creel of the secondary winding of the transformer can then be electrically connected to the metal casing, the latter and thus to the earth. As there is a high voltage between the grounded metal casing of the x-ray tube or transformer and the cable passing through this casing there must be very good insulation.
According to the invention, the two ends of the cable or one of them carry for this purpose an end piece made of highly insulating material which passes through the current conductor. This end piece may have a larger diameter than the cable and may have a non-rectilinear profile, for example corrugated. In addition, the terminal piece can be shaped and mounted on the cable so as to be in close connection, without air space, with the insulating part of the cable and with the current conductor. Preferably, the insulating part of the cable extends to the interior of the end piece.
The current conductor of the cable can be
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
electrically connects to one of the electrodes of the X-ray tube or to one of the terminals of the transformer by means of one or more conductive parts of solid cylindrical shape or not which, connected to the current conductor, are fixed in the part terminal of the cable. It is appropriate to give these pleces a solid cylindrical shape or not, so that their radius of curvature is as large as possible. In general, the extreme surface of the end pieces of a cable must not be parallel to the lines of force existing at this location, so that disruption does not occur along this extreme surface.
Thus, the current conductor will preferably be inclined relative to this extreme surface.
In order to improve the insulation, it is possible to mount, inside the metal casing of the X-ray tube but outside the tube itself, a block of insulating material which at least partially surrounds the rod of cooling of the anticathode and extends to the cavity formed by the glass wall of the tube, this block being in close connection with the end piece of the cable of the anticathode.
To ensure a good connection of the cable with the anticathode of the x-ray tube, the conductive piece located inside the end piece of the anticathode cable can fit into an opening in the cooling rod of the X-ray tube. the anticathode or around a boss rises on this rod.
Preferably the shape of the end piece and that of the anticathode cooling rod are such that they mate closely together, at least in part; preferably, the end of the anti-cathode. the x-ray tube anticatnode cooling rod is spherical and the cable end piece has a recessed portion which can be penetrated
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the end of the cooling rod.
In order for a cable to be connected to the transformer in a manner which ensures safe operation, can the end piece of the cable be made to be tightly connected? with a block of insulating material which is located in the casing of the transformer and to which are attached one or more parts electrically connected to. the secondary winding.
These parts fit in or around the conductive parts of the cable end piece, and electrically connect the cable to the secondary winding. Since the incandescent cathode of the x-ray tube has two current conducting wires, two conducting parts are attached to the end piece of the incandescent cathode cable, one of. these parts preferably being concentric to each other. To these parts correspond two concentric conductive parts which are connected to the two poles of the incandescent cathode. The connection is made by pushing the pieces of one game into those of the other.
In order to reduce the possibility of disruption, we mount, inside the metal casing of the 3 X-ray tube but outside this tube itself, on the side of the fluorescent cathode, a block of insulating material which extends to the cavity formed by the outer glass wall which is crossed by the wires carrying the current to the incandescent cathode, the conductive parts for the connection to the cable being fixed to this block. The block should be shaped like the end piece of the cable. of the incandescent cathode is in close connection with it.
In order to connect the cable electrically, the end pieces of the cables are inserted into the corresponding openings.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
of the metal casings of the x-ray tube and of the transformer, deep enough so that the conductive parts of the end pieces are in contact with the conductive parts of the electrodes and poles of the transformer respectively, over an area as large as possible .
In this case, the end pieces of the cable are at least partially located inside the metal casing of the tube? x-rays pt of the transformer, respectively. Preferably, one has at that of the ends of a = end piece which is diverted from the electrodes or poles of the transformer, respeetiveht a metal ring which surrounds the cable and is in close connection with the end piece In this case,
the separation surface between the end piece and the metal ring may be in a plane not perpendicular to the current conductor, and is preferably curved in the direction thereof. A cable can be fixed to the metal casings of the x-ray tube and of the transformer, respectively by means of a cap the bottom of which is pierced with an opening for the passage of the cable and which is fixed to the metal casing. so as to surround the.,. anointed;
an end piece, or a metal ring in connection with the end piece. As a cap one can very well use a threaded sleeve which can be screwed onto the metal casing of the X-ray tube.
In many cases, the caps can at the same time establish the electrical connection of the outer sheath of the cable to the casing of the x-ray tube or of the transformer respectively.
It is very easy to assemble and disassemble an installation according to the invention very quickly. Like the gold-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
ganes can be relatively light, the installation can be easily transported by one person, its bulk being moreover very low.
In order to facilitate the transport of the transformer, a handle can be mounted on the casing which closes the openings for the cables and which, preferably, can be screwed onto the casing by means of threaded sleeves. At the same time, this prevents oil from escaping through the openings of the casing.
The accompanying drawings, given by way of example, show one embodiment of the invention and will make it clear how it can be achieved. In these drawings:
Figure 1 shows an X-ray installation according to the invention, in which an X-ray tube and a transformer are connected by high-voltage cables, the whole installation having on its surface a metallic coating which is put to the ground. trre.

Figure 6 shows the transformer after replacing the high voltage cables with a handle.
In figure 2, the 2 x-ray tube is designated by l,
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
the, s high voltage cables with metallic outer sheath by 2 and 3, the transformer by 4, The X-ray tube has a wall comprising a glass part 5 and a metal part 6. This metal part has the shape of a ring and the glass part of the x-ray tube is sealed on either side. Preferably, the metal part of the wall of the tube is made of ferrochrome. The anticathode 7 as well as the sheath 8 of the incandescent cathodee are arranged below the metal part of the wall of the tube.
They are isolated from it and are connected, by fusion, to the other ends of the glass parts of the wall of the tube. The metal part has a window 9 which gives passage to the X-rays. A cooling rod 10 which is attached to the anticathode serves to remove the thermal energy developed at the anticathode pellet.
The wires 11 and 12 carrying the current to the incandescent cathode 13 are sealed in the clamp 14 which constitutes a hermetic seal and forms part of the foot 15, the end of which is sealed to the glass part of the wall of the tube The cathode incandescent 13 is disposed in its concentration device in front of an opening thereof through which the electrons pass to the anticathode. On either side of the metal part of the wall of the tube is fixed a metal casing 16 which almost entirely surrounds the X-ray tube and constitutes, together with the metal part of the wall of the X-ray tube, a roughly continuous metallic surface.
This metal casing has two openings for high voltage cables and a few openings 17 at both ends of the casing which allow air to circulate between it and the x-ray tube.
On each side, the glass part of the x-ray tube is
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
tightly surrounded by cylindrical insulating sleeves 18 which are therefore interposed between the glass wall of the tube and 1 1 metal casing.
The X-ray tube is connected to the transformer 4 by a high voltage cable with one conductor 2 and by a high voltage cable with two conductors 3 which are each surrounded by a metal sheath, the transformer being constituted by a primary winding and a secondary winding immersed in oil. On the subject, the transformer is closed by an insulating wall 19, the whole being surrounded by a metal container 20 which is connected to the center of the secondary winding and which is earthed.
Thanks to this coupling system the breakdown voltage at which the insulation in the X-ray tube and cables must be able to withstand is only determined by half of the operating voltage, which not only ensures a saving of material but also a reduced footprint of the installation.
The two cables µ. high voltage 2 and 3 carry at their ends the end pieces 21, 22, 23, 24 which are made of highly insulating material, for example bakelite. These end pieces, the diameter of which is greater than that of the cable, as shown even more clearly in FIG. 3, have a corrugated profile 25 which increases their surface area and decreases the probability of disruption along this surface.
The insulating part of the cable extends to the interior of the end piece and is connected as closely as possible, without air space, with this end piece. The current conductor of the cable extends into the terminal piece which surrounds it as closely as possible, At the point where the current conductor exits from the terminal pieces 23 and 24, it is

attached to conductive places in the form of rods which serve as contacts for the electrical connection with the anticathode and the anticathodic side of the secondary winding of the transformer, respectively. To each of the end pieces 21 and 22 are fixed two conductive pieces 26 and 27 concentric with one another.
These conductive parts, whose radius of curvature, also for the purpose of reducing the probability of disruption, is as large as possible, are electrically connected to the conductors of the cable. These parts serve as contacts for the electrical connection with the wires 11 and 12 bringing the current to the incandescent cathode. The extreme surface of the end pieces of the cables is not perpendicular to the current conductors and is not parallel to the lines of force existing there.
The cooling rod 10 of the anticatnode has a spherical end, 29 which is pierced with a cylindrical opening 30. The conductive part attached to the end piece 23 can penetrate this opening 30 and part of the end surface of the part. terminal 23 fits tightly around part of the spherical end of the cooling rod The terminal pieces of cables 2 and 3 have conductive pieces at their ends which are identical at both ends of each cable. The cable 2 therefore carries at both ends a part in the form of a rod, while the cable 3 carries at both ends two concentric parts.
The conductive parts arranged in the end pieces 22 and 24 correspond conductive parts which are mounted in the Insulating block 19 and fit into the conductive parts of the end parts 22 and 24. Thus, the parts 31 and 32 of the cable 3 s' fit in parts 33 and 34 dis-

placed in block 19, while part 35 of cable 2 fits into part 36 also fixed to block 19.
Block 19 has cylindrical bosses 37 which enclose end pieces 22 and 24 of the high voltage cables. End pieces 33 and 34 are connected to the ends of the heating winding of the secondary coil, part 36 to the other end of the secondary winding.
As shown in more detail, Figure 3 a block 38 of insulating material, for example bakelite, is mounted inside the metal casing of the x-ray tube, but outside this tube itself, on the side of the incandescent cathode, this block extending into the cylindrical cavity formed by the glass wall 5 of the tube.
This block 38 is crossed by the wires 11 and 12 bringing the current to the incandescent cathode b through small metal tubes 39 and 40 electrically connected to the conductive parts 41 and 42 which are arranged concentrically and which are fixed, by bakelisatio, at block 38. The current lead wires are held in place in tubes 39 and 40 by screws 43 and 44.
The parts 41 and 42 correspond to the parts 26 and 27 which are intended to be pressed into the parts 41 and 42 and make contact if the end part 21 of the cable 3 is pushed into the opening of the metal casing of the ray tube. X until it touches the insulating block 38. The insulating block is shaped so as to be then in close connection with the end piece 21; the separation surface of the insulating parts 21 and 38 is oblique with respect to the direction of the lines of force. As shown more clearly in Figure 4, block 38 has a surface 45 which is flattened for air circulation.

A resistance! 46 is mounted outside the x-ray tube and in series with the incandescent cathode, this resistor being sized so that the incandescent cathode, which is powered by a pluggable transformer winding or brought to the desired temperature.
Metal rings are connected with the end pieces of the cables. In Figure 3, one of these rings is designated by 47. The separation surface between the end piece 21 and the ring 47 is not perpendicular to the current conductor, but is curved in the direction thereof. The cables are connected respectively to the X-ray tube or to the transformer by means of caps and for this purpose, threaded bushings 48 can be used very conveniently.
Especially in Figure 3, it is clearly seen that the threaded sleeve surrounds the ring 47 and part of the end piece 21. The threaded sleeve can be screwed onto a threaded portion 49 of the metal casing of the x-ray snorkel. so the end piece 21 is pressed against the block 38 and the pieces 26, 27 and 41,42 are electrically connected. The connection of the cables to the transformer and to the x-ray tube can be done in the same way.
The threaded sockets 48 at the same time ensure the electrical connection between the outer metallic sheath of the cables and the metal casings of the X-ray tube and of the transformer, so that the earthing of the metal casing of the transformer leads at the same time earthing of the metal casing of the x-ray tube and of the outer metal sheath of the cables. For this purpose we use a bound of

earth 50 mounted on the casing of the transformer.
Cables 2 and 3 with metallic outer sheath are flexible. This outer casing can consist of a large number of rings which, once they are fixed
One to the other, can move in relation to each other and constitute together. the metal outer sheath of the cable.
Figure 5 shows a? slightly different shape than the end of an x-ray tube on the side of, the anticathode.
In this embodiment, the end of the cooling rod is directly surrounded by an insulating block 52, the embodiment being in other respects entirely analogous to that shown in FIG. 2.
The X-ray installation which forms the subject of the invention can be very easily dismantled by unscrewing the threaded sleeves 48 and removing the cables from the openings of the metal casings of the X-ray tube and of the transformer.
To make the transformer easier to transport, a handle 51 can be fitted in the openings intended for the cables, as shown in the figure.
6 this handle being screwed to the metal casing 20 of the transformer by means of threaded sleeves 53 and at the same time closing the openings of the casing.
