<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Fig. 7 et 8 montrent de telles rainures.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
' le décollement, du gâteau au moment du basculement,
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
*de la manière suivante.
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

"Trough filter"
The present invention relates to vacuum filters for the extraction of solids mixed with a liquid, by sucking said liquid through a filtering wall on which the solid material adheres.
¯ / ¯¯ The most famous filter of the kind in question is the so-called "drum" filter. in which the cylindrical filtering wall plunges into the tank containing the mixture to be filtered and rotates * dragging on its periphery the material which is peeled off at an appropriate place by scrapers, auxiliary rollers, etc .... means to which are added , in general, an air blast compresses under the wall.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
For various reasons (enoombrement. Difficulty of deta, - oher certain materials), it was necessary to make flat filters on which the material is poured. the removal being ensured by scraper buckets or similar devices, driven by a proper movement.
However, these devices do not ensure satisfactory removal of certain materials. On the other hand, they are very bulky in diameter.
The apparatus according to the invention ensures perfect removal of the materials treated, by virtue of the fact that it comprises a series of troughs which receive the mixture to be treated. ensuring the drying and possibly the washing or washing, then overturning to ensure, without scraping or other, the ohute of the dried material in the discharge orifice.
The invention relates more particularly to a two-stage apparatus device. ensuring a high flow rate with relatively small dimensions. Bile also aims for means to ensure the successive filling of the troughs, their tilting as well as their subsequent straightening. Bile also relates to particularly advantageous embodiments of the various parts and mechanisms of the apparatus.

The apparatus (fig. 1 and 2) comprises a fixed circular frame 1 at the center of which rotates a hollow shaft 2 provided with two plates 3, each of which supports a kind of wheel comprising a hub 4 and an outer rim or crown 5 connected to it. to each other by radial arms
Each wheel carries a series of tilting troughs. Each (pin 4 comprises a rib bottom 7. provided at its outer end with a journal 8 carried by a bearing 9 fixed to the outer rim or crown 5, and at its inner end, with a tubular pin 11 carried by a bearing 12 fixed to the hub 4. As shown, the bottom 7 is slightly inclined towards the tubular axis 11.
The bottom 7 is provided with a series of studs 13 on which rests a perforated wall 14 (made of sheet metal or other suitable material) serving as a support for the filter cloth 15.
On the bottom 7 is fixed the body 16 forming the four @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
sides of the trough. As shown, the wall 14 and the filtering surface 15 are clamped between the body 16 and the edges of the bottom 7.
The body 16 is provided with spacers 17 intended to prevent the canvas 15 from lifting excessively when compressed air is sent into the trough through the tubular axis 11,
The tightening of the body 16 on the base 7 is ensured by bolts 18 and nuts 19.
The pivot axis of the trough does not pass in the vertical plane of the center of gravity, so that the trough normally tends to tilt. It is retained by the intermediary of a roller 21 carried at the end of an arm 22 wedged at the end of the journal 8; the roller 21 rolls on a circular rail 23 carried by the frame 1 and interrupted at the tipping point, as will be explained later.
As shown in fig. 6. the body 16 of a trough carries a side wing 24 which is folded over the edge of the body 16 of the neighboring trough, with the aim of preventing the fall of material or water between the successive troughs .
The trough described can be made of cast iron. When we have to treat very corrosive materials, we have to make lead troughs. In this case it is advantageous to provide on the bottom 7 no longer studs intended to support a perforated wall, but very thin parallel grooves leading to a central channel. Fig. 7 and 8 show such grooves. The perforated wall 14 is then no longer necessary.
To ensure the proper treatment of the materials, the troughs must be connected to one or more vacuum pipes intended to collect the mother liquors and the washing water, and to a compressed air pipe intended to ensure
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
'the separation, of the cake at the time of the tilting,
In the apparatus shown, these connections are provided on the one hand by a distributor, on the other hand by the tubular axis 11 itself.
The tubular axis 11 (fig. 3 and 4) is extended beyond the bearing 12 by a slightly conical part 25, forming a plug.
As shown, the axial oanal of the tubular shaft 11 extends into the plug 25 and opens onto the side thereof.
This plug 25 rotates in a two-way body 26, the assembly being held by a spring 27 bearing on the head 28 of a prisoner 29 fixed to the plug 25. The body 26 is connected on the one hand to a compressed air pipe 31, on the other hand to a vacuum pipe 52. The vacuum pipes 32 (fig. 2) of the two stages lead to the distributor 33 placed at the bottom of the shaft 2 and which will be described below . The compressed air pipes 31 of the lower stage are directly connected to the hollow shaft 2 which serves as the distribution of compressed air; the pipes 31 of the upper stage are connected '06 to a circular box 34, wedged at the end of the shaft 2 and pivoting on an inlet pipe 35; a cable gland 36 (fig. 4) ensures watertightness.
When the trough is in its normal position, its tubular axis 11 communicates with the vacuum pipe 32; when completely reversed, the tubular shaft 11 communicates with the compressed air pipe 31.
The body 26 being carried only by the pipes 31 and 32 which have a certain elasticity, can move axially under the effect of the spring 27 to always be applied on the plug 25. To prevent it from moving angularly when the valve 25 rotates, there is provided a pin 37 (fig. 2 and 4) fixed to the bearing 12 and free in a lateral bore of the corbs 26.
Fig. 4 shows four more grease nipples 38, attached to a
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
, fixed plate 39; these lubricators ensure the lubrication of the bearing 12 and of the plug 26 of the two stages, by pipes 41.
In fig. 2, in order not to overload the drawings, on the contrary, said lubricators have been shown respectively arranged above the parts to which they correspond,
Shaft 2 does not support the moving part, the weight of which would require a very large diameter shaft. Each of the crowns
5 rests on a series of rollers 42 (Fig. 1 and 2), the axes of which are carried by the frame 1 and guide rollers 43 (Fig. 2) have also been provided so that the shaft 2 does not used only for training.
The upper stage of the troughs is fed by a funnel 44 (fig. 1, 2 and 9) carried by an arm 45 (fig. 1 and 2). This funnel is plugged by a valve 46, integral with a pin 47 and applied against the bottom by a counterweight 48, with the interposition of a seal (not shown). On the other hand, on the upper crown 5 are placed cleats 49, each being disposed in front of a trough.
Figs. 1 and 3 clearly show a stopper 49 and in plan. in fig. 2 we have shown in phantom lines the cleat relating to the trough shown (cleat which is actually located in front of the plane of the figure). The axis 47 of the valve 46 carries a finger 51 adjustable in height thanks to a locking screw 52 and which is placed so as to be separated by the suooessive tabs 49 which thus open the valve 46, as is clearly understood in FIG. . 10,
To prevent material or liquid from being splashed onto the mechanism, a protective casing 53 is provided which is fixed to the frame by suitable arms. This casing *] is not shown in fig. 1; it carries the sprinkler hoses such as 54 (fig. 4) intended to distribute the washing water to the troughs.
The tilting and raising of the troughs are ensured *
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
*as follows.
The arm 22 wedged on the journal 8 and carrying the roller 21, is extended horizontally by a tail 55 and vertically by a small arm 56 provided with a roller 57 (Figs. 1, 2 and 4).
At the point or. The overturning of the troughs must occur, the rail 23 is interrupted and, a little before this interruption, a cleat is placed which cooperates with the roller 57 to ensure the overturning. Fig. 10, quite schematic, makes the mechanism clearly understood. The troughs move in the direction of arrow 58. The trough A is maintained because its roller 21 resting on the rail 23. The latter is interrupted at point P. which lets the trough tilt under the effect of its own weight; if the unbalance of the trough is Insufficient to overcome friction. the roller 57 comes into contact with the cleat 59, which mechanically forces the trough to overturn. We thus arrive at position B.
The roller 21 then meets a fixed stop 61 which completes the overturning of the trough; then lacquer 55 encountered a stop 62. which straightens 9. almost completely the trough and brings the roller 21 in front of a ramp 63 which completes the straightening and brings the roller back on the rail 23.
During the reversal. the compressed air takes off the cake.
After recovery (position 0), the corresponding tab 49 meets the finger 51 of the feed funnel 44 and opens the valve 46, which ensures the filling of the trough. the material falling from the troughs of the first stage is received in an intermediate mixer 64 (Figs. 2 and 10). To protect the mechanism. two concentric housings 65 and 66 are provided, carried by the hub 4 and the crown 5 of the upper stage.
The mixer 64 is a funnel-shaped container, carried by irons 67, fixed to the fixed frame 1. It is closed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
by a valve identical to that of the feed funnel 44 and like it actuated by tabs carried by the crown
5 from the lower floor. In the drawings, the parts have the same references as for the power supply for the upper stage with the addition of an accent, which eliminates the need for any further explanation.
Mixing is carried out by a stirrer consisting of a shaft 68 fitted with blades 69. A ramp 71 (fig. 10) not shown in fig. 2. Allows water to be brought to the unit if necessary.
The purpose of the mixer is to break up the cakes received from the upper stage and to dilute them again with the water remaining in the trough and, if necessary, with the water from the ramp 71, to allow new washes. on the lower floor.
The troughs of the lower storey tilt and straighten up like the troughs of the upper storey (fig. 10). The cakes which they reject are received by a funnel 72 yes directs them on an endless conveyor 73.
The lower floor, like the upper floor, is equipped with a number of watering ramps 54.
It will be noted that FIG. 2 shows in the same plane organs such as the funnel 44. the mixer 64 and the funnel
72 yes. in reality, they are angularly offset, as shown in freeze 10. But this was done to allow a better overview of the apparatus.
The distributor wedged at the end of the shaft 2 (fig. 11) consists of a rotating plate 74 to which the vacuum pipes 32 terminate. This plate is secured to the hub 75 carrying the drive worm wheel 76. It has two rows of openings 77 each of which is placed in front of the outlet of a pipe 32. The inner row corresponds to the troughs of

the upper floor, fringed outside those of the lower floor.
Against this movable plate 74 is applied a fixed plate 78 carrying the distribution slots 79 (FIG. 12). There is. in the example represented, three lights for each level, this yes makes it possible to collect six different waters. On each floor is a portion without light 81 corresponding to the troughs being overturned. Hoses such as 82 communicate each light 79 with a suitable reservoir. -
The fixed plate 78 is clamped against the movable plate 74 by springs 70 bearing on a part 80 integral with the housing 90 which encloses the distributor and the worm wheel.
The apparatus described has only two movements: driving the moving part and controlling the mixer.
EMI9.1
The mobile icartie is driven by a shaft 83 (fig, 1) which carries an endless screw pinion attacking the wheel 76 (fi g.2).
The mixer shaft 68 is terminated by a gear 84 consisting of simple radial studs fixed on a roller, This gear is driven by an identical gear 85 wedged on a shaft 86 carrying a chain wheel 87 controlled by a wheel 88 wedged on a vertical shaft 89: the latter is controlled by a horizontal shaft 91 by means of a set of cones 92.
The shaft 91 (freeze 1) carries the control pulley 93 and it drives the shaft 83 by a three chain gear change 94, the operation is now easy to understand.
It will be supposed, to establish the ideas that the apparatus is used for the industry of phosphoric acid obtained by attack of natural phosphates by sulfuric acid. This involves' treating the sludge from the reaction to extract

The phoshoric acid, z ¯ The sludge is constantly poured into the funnel 44 by a corridor such as 95 (fig. 10). They are first partially dried, the water being collected by the first light 79 of the floor superior ; then they are washed twice, the water being collected by the two other lights 79 corresponding to the upper floor.
From there, the sludge falls to the mixer. In general, the products received by the mixer consist of a fairly compact layer of mud coming from the bottom of the trough and a certain quantity of wash water overlying it. The mixer dissolves the sludge so that it spreads satisfactorily on the troughs of the lower floor. If necessary, you can bring in water via ramp 71.
The sludge received by the lower stage is again subjected first to partial drying, then to two washes.
In order to obtain a rational use of the washing water, the water from the last washing is used to ensure the penultimate; the same. the water from the penultimate wash goes to the mixer and to the previous wash, etc ... * Finally we have a very high concentration of water which can be used, for example, to dilute the sulfuric acid to be used to the reaction. However, the first water collected (and which comes directly from the treated materials)

Of course, each stage can be divided into more than three suction sectors or, on the contrary, only two or even one.
A slight variant of the device consists in ensuring the sending of compressed air by the distributor 33 itself. In this case the pipes 31 are omitted, the plug 25 and the body 26 are replaced by a simple seal with a gland.

eg. The compressed air inlet is ensured by additional openings 96 provided in the plate 78 (indicated in dotted lines in fig. 12).
