Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
"Process for preparing emulsifiers and stabilizers and for preparing dispersions therewith.
EMI1.1
emlgators and stabilizers ".
The main patent describes a process for the preparation of emulsifiers and stabilizers, more especially intended for the preparation and stabilization of aqueous emulsions of substances insoluble or hardly soluble in water, such as. mineral oil, vegetable oil, tar, asphalt, paraffin, sulfur, rubber and the like.
According to the main patent, specific sulphonic aoids are used for this purpose which are soluble in water and insoluble in benzol, which have a minimum molar weight of 25 ° and which are obtained from aromatic or hydraromatic compounds, or from salts of these sulfonic acids.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Incidentally, it is by mistake that in the main patent it has been said that the so-called water-soluble sulfonic acids are also soluble in benzol.
At the point mentioned in the main patent, it is therefore appropriate to read "insoluble in benzol".
The fraction of mineral oil containing about 30% aromatic compounds and referred to in the main patent application (page 4, line 1) may be so-called "Spindle oil".
Likewise, in the text of the main patent application (page 4, lines 5-3) from below, the passage "against the coagulating action of Ca ions" and solutions containing the latter "must read "against the coagulating action of solutions containing Ca ions"., and page 5, lines 20-21, the passage "of alkali salts other than those of sulphonic acids" should read "of sulphonic acids other than alkali salts ".
Finally, page 4, lines 9 and lo, the words "united with and" could be deleted.
According to the example given in the main patent, an emulsion is prepared by incorporating 800 parts of asphalt in 100 parts of an aqueous solution of about 3% of the alkali salt of sulfonic acid, to which is added a slight excess of hydrogen, carbonate or alkali acetate or alkali silicate, or the like, while stirring and optionally under increased pressure, until a fine homogeneous dispersion is obtained.
The emulsion thus prepared is very stable, but it has since been found that the stability can still be significantly improved if, instead of mixing 100 parts of said solution, with 800 parts of asphalt, you add to. about 500 parts of the same solution, the same amount of asphalt (about 800 parts).
