<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

- "A mold for the labrication of shoes, sandals, etc. and the like."
The object of the invention is to amend and supplement Belgian main patent No. 349.986 filed on March 26, 1928 and relating to a mold for the manufacture of shoes, sandals, sandals, galoshes, sea baths, snowboots, boots. and ankle boots and other articles of rubber.
The method according to the present invention consists in vulcanizing under high pressure unvulcanized rubber placed in a suitable mold so as to produce the various aforementioned articles in one piece and in a single operation, without sewing or gluing.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To this end, the invention provides for placing a core previously surrounded by bands of unvulcanized rubber, on another band of rubber, also unvulcanized, placed on a support base of the mold and then adapting a cover s' engaging perfectly on the aforementioned block; the aforementioned mold is then vigorously clamped as well as the vulcanization of the rubber bands placed at. inside the latter.
According to a particular embodiment of the invention, this mold may consist of several parts, in particular a lower part serving as a base, an inner core and the cover made up of three parts, in particular two vertical parts surrounding the core and of an upper part which engages on the two aforesaid vertical parts. these different parts are shaped and adapted so that they are clamped on each other by a single pressure acting on the cover and the bottom of the mold.
The invention also provides for combining a rubber sole with a leather upper, for this purpose the mold may optionally include an internal cooling water circulation.
The drawings represent !. by way of example and not by way of limitation, one embodiment of the invention.
The fig.l is a vertical and longitudinal section of the mold along the axis A-B of Figure 3, the. fig. 2 is a plan view of the base or plinth of the mold.
FIG. 3 represents a section along the axis C-D of FIG. 1 and FIG. 4 represents in profile a finished shoe such as it appears on the inner core after demoulding.
On the base a base 1, notched according to the profile to be given to the sole of the shoe, is placed a strip of rubber. unvulcanized on which will rest the core 14

surrounded by two blades of s (outohoue, previously notched according to the openings to be made in the shoe to be manufactured.
These two rubber blades surround the core 14 laterally and come together at the front 14a and rear 14b ends of the aforesaid core.
The base 1 is provided with recesses 6 and 6 in which the corresponding parts of the parts 12 and 13 will engage, laterally surrounding the core 14 and having the same profile as the latter. In order to allow these blocks 12

The blocks 12 and 13 have on their opposite face recesses 16 and 17 of shallow depth, also intended to receive the excess material released by the compression during vulcanization. On the blocks 12 and 13 is then placed a cover 9 which also has on each of these sides bevels 10 and 11 which engage on corresponding bevels of the side walls of blocks 12 and 13.
The manufacturing process comprises the following operations.
A rubber sheet prepared, unvulcanized and roughly cut to the size of the design of the sole is placed on the upper face of the base 1 of the mold. On the internal face of the block 13 is also fitted an unvulcanized rubber sheet and previously cut according to the notches to be made on the upper of the shoe, this rubber sheet is wedged in place using the core 14, then the whole is placed on the sheet lining the base 1. The other side of the core 14, adjacent to block 12 is also lined with a

It is understandable that the arrangement of these openings can be arbitrary.
For the manufacture of shoes with leather uppers, the uppers are fitted on the core so that the leather can come into contact with the rubber blade placed on the base of the mold; but, so that the heat of vulcanization does not damage the leather, the mold must then include a circulation of cooling water for blocks 12 and 13. The aforesaid mold can be made of cast iron, aluminum or any other metal.
