The subject of the invention is improvements in apparatus for punching recording cards or the like. So far we have used devices of various shapes
and in which a series of punches were directly controlled or operated by a series of keys, one key corresponding to each punch; the invention relates more particularly to reducing the energy that must be used for handling
punches; another object of the invention is to simplify
construction and reduce costs.
In the accompanying drawings:

the frame and the means for activating the punches.
Figure 6 is a diagram showing the connections.
In all the figures the same numbers designate similar parts.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is a rectangular frame and 2 is a card holder capable of moving progressively along the frame, under the influence of an S motor to which the card holder is connected by means of a cable 4 There is no need to describe in detail the characteristics of the card holder or the means by which it can be moved independently of its control mechanism from one end of its stroke to the other.
The card 5 is provided with numbers or characters arranged in groups, each comprising any number of vertical rows of nine digits 1 to 9 and a zero so that the digits of the same value will occupy the same horizontal row. punches 6 form a line that extends across the path for the card. They are mounted in a truss 7 and are normally retained by appropriate compression springs 8 which serve to return the punches to their normal positions. The punches move in line with the orifices made through a lower guide plate 9 above which the card passes.

14 punches. Each key engages the outer end of a lever 15, and an upwardly extending arm of each lever engages a slider 16 moving in grooves below the rocker member. when this element tilts, it will only produce an effect on the special punch whose slide

punch and actuation mechanism. Each key 14 controls two spring contacts 18 which normally are out of contact, but which close the circuit when a key is depressed, which excites the electro le. When you stop pressing a key, it returns to its normal position under the effect of the retraction of the spring contact that this key had previously lowered, so that the lever 15 in question as well as its slide 16 will be reset. in their normal positions. The frame

The keys occupy three rows and each row is placed at a different distance from the punches. Thanks to the invention

since it is only necessary to touch co-operating contacts to produce the actuation of the punches. as the circuit is closed by means of a pair of contacts, the lever by which they are closed, causes at the same time the slide 16 to take its position above the punch to be actuated, and during the tilting of the armature towards the electro, the mechanism to operate the punch acts
