<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device for switching off X-ray producing apparatus when the intensity of the current supplied to them becomes too strong.
The object of the present invention is the automatic switching off of a device producing X-rays by means of spoosed members in the circuit of the generator tubes, and intended to open this circuit when the intensity of the current increases beyond the admissible values, for example following a short-circuit, a sudden drop in the resistance of the tubes, or for any other reason. Insertion of switching devices into the circuit
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
tabès presents difficulties due to the fact that the switch device is connected on one side to the high voltage and that it must, on the other hand, cut off the primary current at low voltage.
We must therefore provide between the primary and the secondary organs that prevent the high voltage from arriving at the voltage-based circuit. The invention is achieved alive by placing the interrupting devices, no longer in the circuit. high voltage, but in an auxiliary circuit coupled with the high frequency circuit, by means of a transformer whose primary and secondary are separated by an insulation that does not allow high voltage to pass.
Several embodiments of the invention have been shown by way of example in Figures 1 to 6 attached.
In fig. 1 the circuit supplied by the network contains, according to the usual device, the primary winding b of the high-frequency transformer b, c whose secondary c is in the supply circuit d of the Xe-ray tube. The primary circuit.! additionally contains the switch lever f.2 of the electromagnetic switch! operating at the time of overcurrents and including the coil! 1 is inserted in an auxiliary circuit i. The lever f 2 is subjected to the action of a spring under tension f6.
An elastic pawl f3 has a projection f4 which is placed in the path of the end of the lever f2; the pawl f3 also has a handle f5 projecting outside the switch housing. The circuits / i is supplied by the secondary x of the transformer k l, the primary k of which is interposed in the high voltage circuit d of the ray tube $ very close to an eternity of the transformer b c. The windings k p are separated by an isolator
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
iu element preventing the passage of high voltage o The transformer brings the high voltage of circuit d to a lower voltage, so that it does not pass low voltage through the switch! .
The switch f is adjusted in such a way that the intensity of the current in circuit 1 is not sufficient in normal operation to force it. However if, for example a person 1? comes into contact simultaneously with the two terminals of the transformer b, c, annsi that it is represented in dotted lines in fig. 4 and that by follows, in the circuit the current intensity d / increases up to the intensity of short -circuit, the winding f1 of the switch f will attract the lever f2 so that the primary circuit a will be interrupted.
The elastic pawls f3 lock the lever f 2 in the position so the circuit is open until the moment when @ brings back in prayer acting on the handle f 5, which allows the spring f 6 to return the lever to its position closing.
The switch f can be of any suitable type; the transformer k 1 must be close to one end of the high frequency transformer, in order to protect the high voltage circuit to its full extent. We even went so far as to have the transformer k1 inside the casing g of the transformer k 1 (FIG. 2).
In the embodiment shown in fig. 3 the primary c has 2 windings5 between which is interposed the primary of the transformer k 1 with this arrangement, absolutely any non-operation of the switch f is prevented following a short kl transformer circuit that could occur

It is also possible to arrange things in such a way that the circuit is interrupted for a desired adjustable value of the intensity of the. current. 0. is what fig. 5 represents on which there is shown a r @ ostat q inserted as a bypass on the circuit of the switch f and one end of which is connected by the wire to one end of the winding 1,

---- switch f.
The greater or lesser value of the current in the high voltage circuit which operates the switch is thus easily adjusted.
In the case of fig. 5, the current from the network arrives in the primary b of the high-voltage transformer only through the auto-transformer s serving to regulate the tension and in turn regulate by the control lever. contact @; in addition an ohmic resistance u adjustable by means of the cursor v is arranged in series with the primary winding b and serves to connect the various values of the voltages given by the autotransformer to each other.
This resistor is inserted for the x-ray and must be switched on for the x-ray, because the current required for the x-ray would destroy it. Moreover, in this case, where currents of 20 to 100 milliamps are used, the switch f must be set so as to be less sensitive to overcurrents. 'By mechanically connecting the two sliders r and v by the component w the two settings are slaved to each other.
Finally, according to Figure 6, the switch can be used to limit the load on the X-ray tubes. The end of the X-ray tube can be subjected to a load indicated on its performance plate. If you want to safely prevent destruction of the tube by means of the switch, it must be switched off ... for lower currents in the case of high voltage $ in the tube, ¯ than in the case of voltages low plos This is why, according to freeze 6, the moving cursor of r @ ostat q is serviced. to the contact lever t of the voltage switch s. To this end this cursor is connected by an insulating arm y with the lever t or with its pivot so that it can slide on a contact sign z connected to the wire j 'and

However, if currents in the opposite direction occur, for example as a result of a short circuit or an overload of the tube ,,. which, following the incandescence of the aode, emits electrons, the winding Rl attracts its armature R2 and breaks the short circuit @S of the transformer k1; current then passes through the latter and the secondary current produced actuates switch f which breaks the primary circuit a. In this mode of execution, it is unnecessary to use devices to adjust the sensitivity of the switch.
