 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

2 celle du cylindre N  2 --,une seconde   tubulure b,   de mê- me diamètre que la tubulure bl; l'une au moins desdites   tubulures b,  1 et b  2 com-   portant, avantageusement, un dispositif de réglage non re- présenté (robinet ou semblable), permettant, soit de faire varier le degré de   réchauffage,1   soit de supprimer complète- ment ce dernier;

        on fait aboutir ces deux tubulures b1 et b , à un manchon d entourant, en un endroit approprié, la tubulu- re d'aspiration e du moteur, les tubulures b1 et b2 dé- bouchant dans le manchon respectivement en deux points aussi éloignés que possible l'un de l'autre.

  "Improvements made to the means for heating the carburetted mixture of polycylindrical explosion engines, in particular those to be used in engines of the type in question having their intake and exhaust pipes arranged on both sides. 'other of the cylinders'.

   The invention relates to the means for heating the fuel mixture of polycylindrical explosive engines and it relates more specifically (because it is in their case that its application seems to offer the most interest) but not exclusively, among these means, those to be used on engines of the type in question having their intake and exhaust pipes arranged on either side of the cylinders.

   Its main aim is to make these means both simpler and more effective.

   It consists, principally, to have recourse, in the engines of the kind in question, and to carry out

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 reheating of the carbide mixture, to a communication circuit, by one of; its ends with the exhaust piping of one cylinder of said engine, and, at its other end, with the exhaust piping of another cylinder having its distribution offset from that of the engine. first, said circuit comprising at least one suitable heat exchange member common with the motor supply circuit.

   It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.
It is particularly aimed at a certain mode of application, as well as certain embodiments of said provisions; and it also targets more particularly, and this as new industrial products, the means of the kind in question involving the application of these same provisions, the special elements specific to their establishment, those specific to the transformation of others into de similar means, as well as installations, fixed or mobile, in particular explosion engines, comprising similar means.

   And it can, in any case, be clearly understood using the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication.

   Fig. v of this drawing shows, in plan with parts cut away, a four-cylinder engine embodying the invention.

   According to the invention, and. more especially according to that of its modes of application, as well as that of dense embodiments of its various parts to which it appears that there is a link to accord with the preference, to be assumed that we proposed, given, for example, a mo-

   It is grafted onto the exhaust pipe al of a cylinder - for example, and as shown in fig.

  1, of the cylinder N 2 of the engine a pipe of suitable diameter bl; is grafted, in the same way, on the exhaust pipe a, of a second cylinder for example, and in the same way, of the cylinder N 3 of the engine, which cylinder has, in general, its distribution offset by 180 by in relation to
2 that of the cylinder N 2 -, a second pipe b, of the same diameter as the pipe bl; at least one of said pipes b, 1 and b 2 comprising, advantageously, an adjustment device not shown (valve or the like), allowing either to vary the degree of heating, 1 or to completely eliminate ment the latter;

        these two pipes b1 and b are made to end at a sleeve d surrounding, in a suitable place, the suction pipe e of the motor, the pipes b1 and b2 opening into the sleeve respectively at two points as far apart as possible from each other.

   As a result of which a device for heating the carbide mixture is obtained, the operation of which is as follows: when the cylinder is exhausted? 2, the pressure being greater in the pipe a1, than in
2 the piping has,, a current of burnt gas is established from the first to the second, 'this current passing, in the

 sleeve d and heats the suction pipe c as it passes; when the crankshaft of the engine has rotated 180, cylinder N 3 is exhausted and the flow of burnt gases changes direction, producing the same efiects which are repeated during the whole running of the engine.
