<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

tut I7ß ¯ SAFETY COAT "
Safety supports for coats, hats, etc. have already been imagined in which a movable arm comes to rest on a fixed part while keeping the deposited object trapped, and can only be opened by means of a special key.
But the devices built up to now are of delicate and expensive mechanical construction, and besides their practical operation is uncertain, they present drawbacks, such as that of not constituting a safety locking means, a "master key". can very easily unlock the movable member.
The present invention relates to a novel embodiment of the apparatus, particularly simple and inexpensive, safe to operate, and is essentially characterized by the following facts and their. combination between them:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
- On the one hand, the locking elements of the device, such as pawls, pivoting side by side on the same axis, directly constitute the elements of the locking, and are of such number and arrangement as to give rise to a very large number of combinations, one of which is prepared for each device; - and, on the other hand, the key, immobilized on the device as long as the movable member is in the opening position, is automatically released when the garment is tightened.
The invention will be described below and is shown, but by way of example only, in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig.1 is an elevation of the device in the closed position, the maximum opening pcsition being shown in phantom.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the apparatus.
- Fig. 3 is a cross-section on a large scale following the plane projected in A-A of fig.S, showing the locking mechanism.
Fig. 4 is a rear view corresponding to FIG. 3.
Fig. 5 is a section taken on the plane projected at B-B of fig. 4.
Fig. 6 shows the adaptation of the moving part to the fixed part.
Fig. 7 concerns a variant of execution
Referring to the drawings, it can be seen that the apparatus essentially comprises: .- a fixed support A, comprising a box B
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
enclosing the locking mechanism, terminated by a funnel a, preferably of plastic material, and capable, by any suitable means, of being suspended from a wall or from any desired support; For this purpose, three fixing ears have been shown b.
-a movable arm 0, preferably of curved shape, pivoting on an axis c and carrying at its free end an elastic rod d, such as made of rubber, able, by the rotational movement of the movable arm, to be brought into contact fungus a.
The movable arm C is provided with a fixing pin e having a portion with a square section and a cylindrical portion.
The tenon e can engage in a ratchet g having latching teeth h, mounted on the axle provided with two bearing surfaces i pivoting on the sludge.
3 and j2 of the box, the removable cheek j1, allowing the mechanism to be fitted; the ratchet is suitably tight between a ring! assembled on the tenon, by means of a pin, for example, and the shoulder which constitutes the part with a square section of the tenon.
The ring f could also be. replaced by any other mounting device, such as a nut.
A spring!!! tends to return the movable arm to the open position.
Opposite the ratchet are arranged pawls k, mounted side by side on the same shaft 1 around which they can pivot, each being held in contact with the ratchet by a spring m1.
According to the invention these pawls do not
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
are not equal, but all different lengths, the difference separating the shortest from the longest being equal to the length of a hollow in the teeth of the ratchet.
To fix ideas, we have supposed that the pawls are seven in number, and that they are arranged in the order of their increasing lengths / 'the difference in length of two consecutive pawls being equal to one seventh of the length d 'a hollow in the teeth of the ratchet.
A key D, able to engage in a sleeve n comes to press on the ends of these opposite pawls. sés to their beak and thus causes them to tilt, producing a bending of the springs m1. When all these pawls are brought to the tilting position, and only at this moment, the ratchet is released.
On the other hand, each pawl can be hollowed out, at the place where the key D bears, along a recess such that k1 these recesses being equal or not at will and of variable arrangements, as shown in FIG.
4. A simple calculation shows that the number of different arrangements of seven different recesses, out of all of the seven pawls, is 5,040.
For each of these arrangements, we can construct a key and only one, which, cut according to the corresponding profile, a suitable projection k1 located opposite each recess k1 as shown in fig. 4, will produce tilting all pawls and releasing the ratchet. Thus, each device will be provided with its own key.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In addition, the apparatus comprises an angled lever d, p, articulated at a fixed point q of the box B of the support, which has, at its upper part, a tooth r, and whose arm 0 is located opposite a finger s carried by the axis. This -finger if immobilizes the o.p. as long as the mobile arm is raised (mixed lines fig.i, solid lines fig.3).
The tooth! can penetrate, through a notch in the sleeve n, into a recess t of the key, when the latter is in the position which corresponds to the tilting of the pawls k, a spring u tending to hold the lever o, p, in the tooth disengagement position r.
This device for immobilizing the key offers the advantage of achieving positive locking of the latter by the movable member itself.
However, FIG. 7 shows an alternative embodiment of this device, in which the lever, reduced to a simple lever 0 1 provided with a tooth r1, is held in the engagement position. of the tooth by a spring u1 The release of the eolé is produced for example, by a finger s1 carried by 1 Tax 0, which engages between the lever .. ± 1 and the sleeve of the key, during the maneuver of closing of the movable arm.
The apparatus being thus described, its operation can be briefly explained as follows:
The key D being initially fully engaged and held by the tooth r, the ratchet g is released and the movable arm C can be moved at will.
We then place the clothes and objects to be placed on the mushroom a and we lower the mobile arm in
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
pressing the pad d against the clothes to achieve a proper tightening.
At this moment the finger ± releases the-lever op which releases the key. D., and product Inapplication of all the pawls against the ratchet g. this one is thus blocked; indeed, the immobilization of the ratchet can be produced by an angular displacement of the movable part corresponding to one seventh of the length of a tooth, one of the pawls will certainly come, for any position of the movable arm
C, immobilize the ratchet g ..
It can therefore be seen that, by tightening the clothes between the fixed part and the movable member, both the blocking of the assembly and the release of the key, which can be carried with them, are achieved. .
To release the clothes or other objects deposited, it suffices to insert the key D again in the sleeve n up to the engagement position of the tooth r: the ratchet g is thus released and the mobile arm c is raised, by the effect of the spring m, in the open position.
We can therefore see how the new e / duitlistin safety medium is fast and simple; theft of deposited objects is thus impossible; the oil being retained by the open device, it is impossible for it to be misplaced or taken away inadvertently by the owner of the said deposited objects.
Of course, the preceding arrangements are given only by way of example, and any modifications concerning the shapes, dimensions, locations

In particular, it is understood that it is possible to give the locking mechanism an arrangement opposite to that shown, the pawls belonging to the movable member and the roohet to the fixed part. Likewise, it is possible to give the cé locking the pawls another arrangement, many known mechanisms in locksmithing being capable of being applied. In addition, the number of pawls can be increased, in order to increase the number of different combinations, and hence the security of the lock.
