<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Improvements made to clasps for necklaces, chains, etc.
The clasps usually applied to necklaces, short chains. present this serious drawback that if they accidentally open, the result is the separation of the two ends of the necklace or of the chain which they joined together, which almost fatally causes the loss of the jewel.
The various safety systems which have been used up to now have only had the effect of considerably complicating the clasps without ensuring in a certain way the safety of the closure,
The present invention relates to a clasp device functioning, in substance, like the usual clasps but in which, in the event of inadvertent opening of the closure system proper, one of the elements of the clasp remains engaged in the closure system. a ring integral with the other element so that the two ends of the collar or of the chain cannot separate.
Such a closing device is shown in subs--

tance and only by way of example, to. enlarged scale, by the attached drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is the longitudinal section of a clasp device, shown normally closed,
Fig. 2 is a similar section after accidental opening of the clasp.
Fig.3 is an exterior view corresponding to Fig.2 but following a plane perpendicular to that of the latter.
Fig.4 is the longitudinal section of a clasp established according to a second embodiment.
Fig.5 is a section taken along line AA of Fig.4 and corresponding, like the latter, to the normally closed clasp.
Fig.6 is a section similar to the previous one after accidental opening of the clasp.
With reference to figs. 1 - 2 and 3, a is one element of the clasp and b the other element, these elements being connected to the two ends of the necklace or of the chain which they must join together, by means of the rings cd as d 'use. These two elements do not, moreover, in their general arrangement, present any special peculiarity, the element a constituted by two elastic branches ef engaging in the element b until the heel g of l 'one of the plugs is hooked behind the stop h of the other element; the action exerted by the finger on the pusher.1 allows the release of the two parts, as usual.
What constitutes the characteristic of the system is that, on the side of the open part of the element b. this comprises a ring j which necessarily engages between the two branches ef of the other element a when the latter is withdrawn from the element b. The result is that if the clasp accidentally opens, the 'ring j of element b remains engaged between the two connected to the other element a, as shown in fig. 2 and 3, so that these two elements cannot separate.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
To open or close the necklace or the chain driven by this clasp, it suffices to release the branch f from the ring j or to engage it there after which the clasp itself is used in the usual way,
Figs.4-5 and 6 refer to another exemplary embodiment in the form of a flat clasp. This clasp also comprises two elements which are connected to the necklace or to the chain by the rings k and 1, one of the elements being constituted by a flexible double branch mn which clips, by the heel o, in the other element p, Ce-ui-ci is provided with a ring q in which the branch n of the other element is engaged in such a way that this ring is placed between the two branches m and n.
If accidentally the clasp, shown closed by Figures 4 and 5, comes to open, the ring q of 1 * element 2 remains engaged between the two branches m and n of the other element and thus these two elements cannot be separated.
Other forms of execution can be produced, the characteristic of which always lies in the fact that a ring integral with one of the elements of the clasp is engaged and slides between the two flexible branches of the other element which form a slide. , said clasp being able, outside

of this characteristic include all accessory provisions specific to its use.
