"IMPROVEMENTS IN CINEMATOGRAPHIC MACHINES"
The object of the present invention is an improved and simplified cinematographic machine based on an optical image substitution system resulting in remarkably sharp and fixed projection with simple and uniform movement of the film and mechanism.
The said cinematographic machine, - apart from ordinary commercial use in published cinematographic theaters ------ is adapted by its great simplicity of construction and ease of maneuver, - in a particular way for the use domestic and in schools, and by its ability to move in both directions and the wear immunity of the film for use as an automatic advertising device.

The invention is illustrated schematically by way of example in two of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig.I is a vertical section of the apparatus and Figs.2 and 3 are detail views of the cylinder.
The invention consists essentially of a cylinder rotating on its axis and provided with crowns of teeth engaging with perforations in the film. Said cylinder carries a number of lenses or lenticular systems acting as objectives. The optical axes of said lenses are equidistant from each other and located in a plane normal to the axis of rotation and can be placed on the longitudinal median line of the film, as in fig. I and 3 or outside, as in fig. 2.
: is a prism or reflector motionless in the interior of the cylinder, intended to direct, along its axis, the image of the objectives L (fig. 1) on the screen.
The operation of the new device is as follows:
The cylinder, while rotating, transports the film or is transported by it, by means of the crown of teeth D, and the images FF 'F' 'appear successively at A between the condenser Q and the objectives g L' L '' at a distance AB corresponding to the focal length of each lens. In this way each image moves together with its objective of the same channel length, and the image is reproduced on the screen with a displacement corresponding to a few millimeters of the opening of a fixed diaphragm G.
The absolute stillness of the image on the screen can be achieved while the film and lenses are moving by advancing the latter a path length slightly less than that of the film. If the distance between the optical center of the objectives and the axis of rotation is a little less than the radius of the ring gear, the distance between the optical center of the objectives and the ring gear will be sufficient. by a lens (or an @

lenticular system) fixed which, depending on the correction to be made, will be positive or negative, and is placed between the screen and the objectives, a positive lens being equivalent to the movement of the objectives towards the axis,
and a negative lens equivalent to a distance from the axis.
Fig. 2 shows the case where the objectives are placed next to the film and shows a portion of the cylinder wall in a camera for normal film.
A system of reflectors or fixed prisms (not illustrated) can be used to deflect the rays of light so that they arrive from the condenser to the screen after passing through the film and the objectives independently of the lens. 'particular location of the different parts as required by the system.
It is obvious that the device described above for a projection machine could be adapted, with the appropriate modifications, of the cinematographic recording devices.
