<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Method and apparatus for the treatment of liquids, water in particular, with a sterilizing agent such as ozonated air.
In the currently known processes for sterilizing water using ozonated air, for example, the water to be treated flows in the form of a solid cylindrical jet through a converging cone, passes through an empty space and then comes together. ter in a divergent cone, after exerting a vigorous demand for ozone air.
The volume of ozone air entrained is a function, all other things being equal, of the external surface of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
liquid vein which constitutes the active zone of entrainment of air.
The present invention relates firstly to an improved process characterized by giving the treated liquid vein a tubular shape, which significantly increases, for a determined liquid flow rate, the external surface of this vein. and hence the contact surface between the liquid and the sterilizing agent and the effective action of this agent.
According to a variant of this process, two gas veins of sterilizing agent are made to act on the tubular liquid vein, one of which comes into contact with the external surface of the tubular liquid vein, the other with the surface. internal of this liquid vein: the contact surface between the sterilizing agent and the liquid vein and consequently the action of this agent on this vein is considerably increased.
The invention extends to the foregoing methods in themselves, that is to say regardless of the particular means chosen to give the liquid vein a tubtt form. lairo and to bring the sterilizing agent into contact with this vein.
However, the invention also extends to particular devices making it possible to carry out these processes in a particularly convenient and safe manner.
One of these devices, called emulsifiers, is characterized by a core, in reinforced cement for example, arranged in the axis of the liquid veine, this core thus forcing this vein to take the form of an annular crown. .
According to a variant of the invention, the core is itself tubular, the interior chamber of this core serving for the passage of a stream of sterilizing agent which opens onto the internal surface of the tubular liquid vein, this current thus adding its action to that already exerted by the sterilizing agent on the outer surface
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the tubular liquid vein.
Two foam concentrates in accordance with the invention are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, of which FIGS. 1 and 2 are vertical sections of these two emulators.
The foam concentrate of FIG. 1 comprises a converging cone 1 to which is connected the inlet pipe 2 for the water to be treated, this converging cone 1 itself rests by an annular ring 3 on a divergent cone 4 carried by a frame 5.
A cylindrical casing 6 surrounds the convergent cone 1 and forms between it and this cone a chamber 1 which communicates through the conduit 8 with the ozone air inlet and through the windows 10 with the divergent cone 4.
According to the invention, a solid core 12 of molded cement with a metal frame 13 is mounted in the xy axis of the emulsifier and connected to this emulsifier by a conical sleeve 14.
This device works in the following way. The water to be treated arrives through the pipe 2, meets the core 12 and thus turns into a tubular vein 15 with a large outer surface; the ozone air supplied by 8, 7 and 10 comes into close contact at 16 with this large surface of the tubular vein.
The stream of water thus sterilized is evacuated at 17 by the converging cone 4.
The arrows in solid and dotted lines in FIG. 1 represent respectively the path of water and that of ozone air.
Given the large surface area of the annular water vein, a very effective action of the ozone air is achieved on the water to be sterilized,
The variant of FIG. 2 differs from the arrangement! - 'tif of FIG. 1 by which the central core 12 presents
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
an internal channel 21 on which an ozone air duct is connected by the connector 20; this internal channel opens on the other hand at 22 outside the core 12, opposite the
EMI4.1
orïf1egs 10 and at the lower end 30 of lïcyau 12.
Finally, the inlet pipe 2 for the water to be sterilized is offset to the side of the foam concentrate so as to leave the necessary space for the connector 20 and the ozone air duct connected to this connector.
The variant of FIG. 2 operates in a manner analogous to that of the emulsifier of FIG. 1: however, the annular water stream 15 is subjected at 16 to a double action of the ozonated air; firstly, the ozone air stream 25 exiting the orifices 10, after having entered through the duct 8 into the chamber 7, comes into contact with the outer surface of the annular stream. 15; at the same time the ozonated air stream 26, which leaves the orifices 22 after having entered through the connector 20 into the chamber 21 of the core 12, comes into contact with the internal surface of the annular vein 15.
