<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Valveless timing for four-stroke engine.
The present invention relates to a simple and robust valveless distribution applicable to explosive engines of the four-stroke type. This distribution comprises, for each cylinder of the engine, two semi-cylindrical sliders sliding back to back in a cylindrical chapel and having in their convex faces slots in the form of notches which successively communicate an intake orifice and an exhaust port of the chapel with a bulge thereof which extends the explosion chamber of the engine cylinder.
For this purpose, the drawers receive appropriate reciprocating movements which are printed on them,

by means of connecting rods and cranks offset from one another or of eccentrics, by a timing shaft housed in the housing. this arrangement makes it possible to obtain perfect sealing and low wear thanks to the large dimensions of the surfaces in contact and to provide passages of large section which facilitate the entry and exit of the gases.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a view, in vertical section through a cylinder, of a. side chapel motor.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along the line A-B of FIG. 1,
Fig. 3 is a section through the line C-D in FIG.
1, and
Fig. 4 is a section taken along the line E-F of FIG.
1.
In these figures, 1 denotes the engine cylinder, 2 the piston, 3 the crank shaft and 4- the crankcase, all of these parts being of the current model. Next to the ballast cylinder, a cylindrical chapel 5 is formed, the middle part 6 of which is swelled and forms the extension of the explosion chamber 7 of the cylinder. In this chapel, two semi-cylindrical drawers g and 9 can slide back to back, respectively ensuring the admission and the exhaust of gases before and after the explosion in chamber 7.
The spool 8 is connected by a connecting rod 10 to a crank 11 carried by a timing shaft 12 which is housed in the housing 4 'and carries a second crank 13, offset by a certain angle with respect to the first. and connected by a connecting rod 14 to the slide 9.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The distribution shaft 12 is actuated at an appropriate speed by a rotating member of the motor and imparts to the spools 8 and 9 reciprocating movements in the chapel 5.
This has, above the bulge 6, two orifices, one of which 15 communicates with the intake and the other 16 with the exhaust of the engine. To these orifices 15 and 16 correspond respectively slots 17 and 18, in the form of notches, formed one in the curved face of the drawer 8 and the other in the curved face of the drawer 9.
The reciprocating movements of the drawers 8, 9 cause their lights 17, 18 to communicate successively and in due time, and hence the inlet 15 and the exhaust port 16, with the bulge 6 of the chapel 5 and the explosion chamber 7 of cylinder 1. Thanks to the appropriate offset of the cranks 11 and 13 of the distribution shaft 12, none of the ports 17,18 communicate with the explosion chamber 7 during compression and explosion times.
A water jacket 19 surrounds the cylinder 1 and the chapel 5 and the cooling thus achieved prevents any expansion of the latter which is harmful to the leaktightness of the distribution. In addition, the chamber formed by the bulge 6 of the chapel completely surrounds the drawers 8 and 9 and, therefore, the pressures exerted on them by the explosion of the gases in the chamber 7 are balanced.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown, and it would be possible, for example, to place the chapel horizontally above the cylinder or to make other modifications to the distribution without s. 'to depart from the invention, @
