Description
The invention relates to electrical connectors arranged on glazing, in particular automotive glazing. The connectors in question connect a conductive element disposed on a glazing unit to an electrical device, for example a power supply or signal processing device. The conductive elements disposed on the glazing are for example son or heating layers, or antennas or any other element requiring the attachment of a connector on a glazing. In the following, the type element in question is chosen as a heating wire network applied to the glazing without this having a limiting character. Networks of this type are commonly used to demist the rear windows of motor vehicles.
The attachment of a connector on a glazing unit for supplying a heating network is ordinarily made by welding with a conductive "bus-bar" previously applied to the glazing unit. The bus bars consist in particular of conducting enamels based on silver.
The traditional welds used are based on lead alloy. They are chosen because of their malleability. The connector, typically made of copper for its good conductivity, and the glazing have very different expansions under the effect of variations in temperature. This results in constraints at the weld site. The malleable nature of lead, partly absorbing at least the differences in expansion, reduces these constraints.
The thermal stresses caused by the differences in expansion are possibly the cause of breakage of the connection, or fracture of the glazing. The presence of a lead solder is normally sufficient to prevent these difficulties.
Standards, especially in automotive applications, tend to prohibit the use of lead because of its toxicity. It is therefore necessary to have alternative solutions to the use of lead solder.
Proposals have been made to substitute for lead alloys usually tin-based in combination with other metals including indium, bismuth or silver. These alloys, however, do not offer the properties of lead both in terms of thermal expansion characteristics and mechanical strength of welds.
To restore satisfactory conditions of use especially with the alloys of the type mentioned above, various connector structures have been proposed, some already being used with traditional lead solder.
The connectors developed so far traditionally have a so-called T-structure. This structure comprises a double bracket welded to the glass. The two legs are connected by a bridge kept at a distance from the glazing. A tab secured to the bridge forms a pin for receiving the end of a power supply conductor. The fact of doubling the weld point makes it possible to divide the extent of each of these, and consequently the corresponding local stresses.
This type of connector is still sensitive to the effects of temperature variations. The object of the invention is to propose a connector of the type indicated above, which offers improved properties. The purpose of the connector according to the invention is to easily replace a lead-free solder with conventional welds.
Le but est atteint en utilisant un connecteur tel que défini à la revendication 1.The goal is achieved by using a connector as defined in claim 1.
In principle, the connector according to the invention allows to benefit from an elongation of the elements connecting the two feet of the connector without requiring to increase the distance between these two feet. The advantage is to keep the connector in small dimensions that facilitate its use in the implementation conditions for which the size must be as limited as possible. This is the case on automobile windows for which we try to hide or to make discrete the elements arranged on these windows. The lengthening of the elements connecting the feet to one another, without modifying the differences of expansion of the materials, nor the distance between the feet, makes it possible to absorb these variations over a greater length, and consequently to minimize the constraints imposed on the welds. The invention is described in detail with reference to the drawing board in which: - Figure 1 is an enlarged perspective view of a connector of the prior art; FIG. 2 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a connector according to the invention; - Figure 3 is another embodiment of a connector according to the invention - Figure 4 is a variant of the connector shown in Figure 3; - Figure 5 is a graph showing a test cycle of operation of the connectors.
The traditional connector of Figure 1 is of the type designated "T-shaped". Traditionally, the connector is metallic and has a high conductivity to prevent loss by joule effect and unnecessary local heating. Even for the supply of a heating network glazing, it is necessary to try to dissipate the energy as much as possible on the glazing and not in the supply circuit.
The connector comprises two feet 1, which rest and are welded to the glass sheet 4. The two legs 1 are integral with a bridge 2 formed in the same room as the feet. The bridge 2 is slightly away from the glass sheet to clear the pin 3 for receiving the female part of the connection. Pin 3, like bridge 2, is spaced apart from the glass sheet by a distance that is most often relatively small to facilitate its integration into the assembly constituted by the glazing and its frame. This arrangement of pin 3 is not systematic. It can also stand on the sheet according to the environment in which the sheet is integrated.
In the traditional form shown the connection between the bridge 2 and the feet 1 is via legs 5 slightly inclined relative to the plane of the glass sheet. The tilt is only intended to clear the spindle and facilitate its connection. In this position the distance connecting the feet to each other via the legs 5 and the bridge 2, is not very different from their distance on the glass sheet. The variations in expansion are almost completely reflected in the forces exerted on the feet 1.
In the traditional form shown, the legs 5 are typically rectangular or square in shape. This shape is mainly dictated by the cut as simplified as possible.
Figure 2 shows a first embodiment of the invention. The overall shape of the connector recalls the T-shape of the previous connectors. In this form we find feet 1, legs 5, a bridge and a brooch. But the bridge 6, 6 'and the spindle 7, 7' are divided into two separate parts which are joined only at the end 8 of the spindle.
This connection between the two feet is made by the elements whose total length is substantially greater than is the distance separating the feet. This length is thus preferably at least twice the distance between the feet, and can be more than three times this distance.
According to the invention it is preferred to move the bridge a little further from the glass sheet so as not to maintain an excessive component of the forces transmitted parallel to the sheet. For this purpose the legs 5 preferably have an angle of at least 30 °, and preferably at least 40 °, with the plane of the glass sheet. Such an arrangement makes it possible to better distribute the forces transmitted in the connector. This feature leads if necessary to move a little more bridge 2 of the glass sheet if the legs 5 remain of similar length as it is for the connectors of the prior art. But this distance remains in any case relatively small and plays little vis-à-vis the congestion conditions mentioned above. The experience of the inventors has shown that the shape of the feet, and therefore that of the welds which fix them to the glass sheet, can intervene in the fragility of this fixation under the constraints imposed in particular of metal / glass expansion difference. The presence of an angular geometric shape for the feet, any other condition identical elsewhere, including contact surface of these feet, has been found to lead more easily to breaks. The inventors therefore propose to give the feet a global shape without angular points. A round or oval general shape is preferred according to the invention.
The surface of the feet and that of the corresponding welds must be relatively well controlled. A large surface necessarily induces, directly at the level of the foot, constraints that the structure according to the invention described above can not modify. The rounded shape is that which leads to the smallest distance between two points of the surface of the weld of the same foot, for a given surface. This arrangement is therefore also favorable for limiting thermal stresses.
A cet effet une disposition selon l’invention consiste à aménager la face des pieds tournée vers la soudure par exemple par la présence de trous, éventuellement borgnes ou d’éléments analogues, rainures, picots...To further reduce the surface in question without simultaneously reducing the mechanical strength of the attachment to the glass sheet, it is possible and advantageous to have elements promoting the anchoring of the feet on the sheet. In practice this leads to increasing the contact area of the foot and the weld. For this purpose an arrangement according to the invention consists in arranging the face of the feet turned towards the weld for example by the presence of holes, possibly blind or similar elements, grooves, pins ...
The connector of Figure 2 has feet with holes 9 in which the weld can be introduced to better secure the foot which, for the same resistance, can still offer a welded glass surface less important. In Figure 2 the two parts 7 and 7 'of the spindle joined to the end 8, have a 10 rounded obviously to avoid a possible incipient break related to angular cuts.
Cette longueur correspond au doublement de celle de la broche formée par le repli sur elle-même de la feuille constituant la broche.FIG. 3 represents another embodiment of the invention in which the pin 11 as above makes it possible to substantially lengthen the length of the elements connecting the two legs 12 of the connector. This length corresponds to the doubling of that of the pin formed by folding on itself of the sheet constituting the pin.
In this presentation the feet 12, located on either side of the spindle still have a non-angular shape. Each of the legs 12 is generally semicircular in shape. As previously holes 13 are arranged to improve the attachment and limit the surface of the weld in contact with the glass sheet.
The structure corresponding to FIG. 3 brings the two legs 12 very substantially closer together. This arrangement, which is favorable to congestion, is not necessarily the most efficient for the distribution of the stresses transmitted by the connector. Reducing the relative width of the spindle can improve the behavior.
Ces connecteurs peuvent aussi relier des éléments d’une autre nature, éléments d’éclairage, caméras, radars, antennes, capteurs variés notamment les détecteurs de pluie...Moreover, the arrangement shown in FIG. 3, in which the pin is substantially orthogonal to the glass sheet, is not necessarily the best suited to all the applications of these connectors. A similar alternative arrangement is shown in Figure 4. In this case the pin 11 is inclined to approach the surface of the sheet all other elements of the connector remaining unchanged. This shape makes it possible not to occupy a space which is not generally very important in the structures in which this type of connectors is used. The inclination may be such that the plane of the pin 14 is substantially parallel to the glass sheet. The invention also relates to glazing, and particularly automotive glazing equipped with connectors as claimed. These windows are including rear windows or heated windshields. These connectors can also connect elements of another nature, lighting elements, cameras, radars, antennas, various sensors including rain detectors ...
Figure 5 shows the type of proof cycle of connector welds on glass sheets for supplying heating networks. The test concerns the holding of the fastener subjected to very large variations in temperatures. In the cycle represented starting from the ambient temperature of 20 ° C., the assembly has passed to a temperature of -40 ° C., representing the most important values. where the glazing may be subjected in practice. The temperature is maintained for 90 minutes. An electric current passing through the connector is then used to heat the assembly. The temperature of the connector at the highest reaches 105 ° C, higher value than those encountered in practice. A plateau at this temperature is maintained for 4.5 hours, and the temperature is then brought back to room temperature for the start of a new cycle. The total duration of a cycle is 8 hours. Each fixation is subjected to 60 cycles. In this test no break is observed with the connectors according to the invention that they are fixed with a traditional lead solder or with a lead-free solder. In a comparative test with a connector of the prior type as shown in Figure 1 there is under the feet of the connector the appearance of embrittlement zone of the glass which excessively reduce the resistance to tearing.
The connectors are also compared to those of the prior art for their pull-out capability, regardless of the thermal tests. In the same conditions the connectors of the type shown in Figure 1, are compared with those of Figure 2. In the case of the front connector the surface for both feet is 64mm2. The connector of Figure 2 tested has a surface area of only 25mm2.
With the same lead-free solder, and the same quantity per unit of weld area, the pull-out resistance is set at 4N / mm 2 for the front connector, and at 7N / mm 2 for that corresponding to the invention, an increase of nearly 35%.
