Abstract
Here we discuss a warning system whereby the danger for vulnerable road users (cyclists), namely the blind spot in trucks or other vehicles can be drastically reduced or avoided. A transceiver system is used. Depending on the most efficient implementation, the transmitter can receive respectively or even the combination can be mounted in the base station of the vehicle. The proximity of a weak user (e.g. within range of 20m or less), equipped with a matched module (transmitter / receiver), signals the base station in the vehicle about the possible dangerous situation. The signal that will warn the driver can be reproduced audiovisually, by making a buzzer sound faster or by making a light flash faster as the distance to the vulnerable road user decreases.

The blind spot is a current theme. Every year there are casualties due to the blind spot in vehicles. Many ideas have already been suggested and implemented to address this problem.
The following is the description of a new idea to solve this problem. In addition, this system increases the vigilance of the driver by making the presence of the cyclist (or weak road user) known in any traffic situation.
We start from the principle of sender - receiver.
We want to ensure that when the cyclist (or weak road user) comes close to the truck (bus or other vehicle), the driver is notified by the presence of that cyclist.
Below we describe a single case, namely the situation between lorry and cyclist (weak road user). This idea can of course also be applied to buses, cars and light mopeds. The latter (by this we mean the light moped) is then the weak road user.
Beschrijving van de uitvindingDescription of the invention
De zenderThe sender
Dit kan als volgt:This can be done as follows:
The weak road user (for example a cyclist) (1) is in possession of a transmitter (2). This transmitter (2) transmits a signal (with a certain frequency). The transmitter (2) is small and works on a battery (possibly rechargeable). The weak road user (1) can attach the transmitter (2) to his body (for example the wrist, neck, ... clothing), but can also be attached to the bicycle. The device can also be made portable.
An on-off button is provided. The transmitter (2) has a test light (LED light) that lights up when the battery only works for a while. In this way the weak road user (1) knows that the battery needs to be charged.
There is the possibility that the transmitter (2) is tuned in advance to that particular receiver (4) in the vehicle.
Een andere optie voor de zender is de volgende:Another option for the channel is the following:
There is a possibility that the weak road user (1) himself operates a switch when he feels threatened or when a vehicle (3) is approaching. Through this switch, the transmitter (2) transmits a signal for a period of time, so that the vehicle is warned, via its receiver (4). In this way the transmitter (2) does not constantly have to send the signal. This is then a kind of time switch. You can compare it to a bicycle bell, where the cyclist warns the other cyclists. In the system described above, the signal now for example continues to transmit for a few seconds.
Finally, there is the following option. The weak road user may be in possession of a tuned module in which the sender receiver is combined.
The truck (or vehicle) (3) is in the possession of a receiver (4).
This receiver (4) gives a signal (an interrupted beep signal) as well as an LED light (which flashes) when the weak road user (1) is near. In this way the driver is warned of the proximity of the weak road user (1).
There is the possibility to place the switch in 3 positions. On the one hand, the driver can choose to have both the signal (the buzzer) and the LED light on, but he can also choose to have only the buzzer or just the LED light on.
The receiver (4) can be used on the one hand as a portable device and on the other hand can be built into the vehicle (3).
Moreover, the receiver (4) can also be connected to the direction indicator of the truck or vehicle (3). When the vehicle (3) wants to turn right, the receiver (4) starts to work, so that it can receive the signal from the nearby cyclist (weak road user) (1). This is to prevent the driver from constantly being bothered by the signals (from the buzzer, for example) when driving on a straight lane. After all, it is then (when turning right) that the danger arises. The driver is then notified by the signal.
Werking van het systeem zonder aansluiting op rechterrichtingaanwijzerOperation of the system without connection to the right direction indicator
The cyclist (or weak road user) (1) has the transmitter (2). The cyclist activates the transmitter (2) by switching on the switch.
Hierdoor zendt de zender (2) een signaal uit. This causes the transmitter (2) to send out a signal.
When the cyclist (or weak road user) (1) enters the range of the receiver (4), the electronics of the receiver (4) are activated. This closes a contact through which a relay (or microprocessor, IC, ...) is activated so that an LED light and / or an audio signal is subsequently activated.
As a result, the driver is warned that the weak road user (1) is in the vicinity and thus the driver is urged to be extra vigilant.
Werking van het systeem met aansluiting op rechterrichtingaanwijzerOperation of the system with connection to the right direction indicator
The cyclist (or weak road user) (1) has the transmitter (2). The cyclist activates the transmitter (2) by switching on the switch.
Hierdoor zendt de zender (2) een signaal uit. This causes the transmitter (2) to send out a signal.
Subsequently, when the cyclist (or weak road user) (1) enters the range of action of the receiver (4) and the driver has switched on the right-hand direction indicator, the electronics of the receiver (4) are only activated. This closes a contact through which a relay (or microprocessor, IC, ...) is activated so that an LED light and / or an audio signal is subsequently activated.
As a result, the driver is warned that the weak road user (1) is in the vicinity and thus the driver is urged to be extra vigilant.
A third possibility is that the receiver (4) is linked to the vehicle (3) and thus connected to the turn signal, but that the driver also has the option of activating the device by means of a switch, so that the receiver (4) on can display a signal at any time. So the receiver (4) on the one hand gives a signal when the driver uses the direction indicator and a weak road user (1) is in the vicinity, but also when the driver preventively activates the device and the device therefore continuously works and receives the signals and receives a signal. gives a warning signal.
Finally, the vehicle can also be in the possession of a combination sender-receiver. This module can also be a coordinated module.
The signal from the receiver is an interrupted beep and / or flashing light.
There is, however, the possibility that as the cyclist (or weak road user) (1) approaches closer, the signal will be heard more quickly. In other words, the closer the cyclist (or weak road user) (1) is to the neighborhood, the shorter the pauses between the beep sound become. The same applies to the LED light. This flashes faster when the cyclist (or weak road user) (1) is close. The signal is therefore given in 2 ways, using a buzzer and an LED light.
There is the possibility to place the switch in 3 positions. On the one hand, the driver can choose to have both the signal (the buzzer) and the LED light on, but he can also choose to have only the buzzer or just the LED light on.
In een verdere fase...In a further phase ...
At a later stage, the system / idea described above can be integrated into a navigation system or an on-board computer of the vehicle. Here a vote can indicate whether a cyclist is nearby. This system can be applied via satellite in an even later phase, whereby the navigation systems (GPS) indicate where the weak road users are located. The transmitter is then connected to a satellite which in turn is connected to the navigation system.
