Abstract
Description
ETHERISCHE OLIE, HYDROLAAT EN SIROOP OP BASIS VAN AGASTACHE PLANTMATERIAAL, WERKWIJZE VOOR HET VERVAARDIGEN DAARVAN, EN GEBRUIK IN BEPAALDE TOEPASSINGENESSENTIAL OIL, HYDROLATE AND SYRUP BASED ON AGASTACHE PLANT MATERIAL, METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THEM, AND USE IN CERTAIN APPLICATIONS
The present invention relates to an essential oil, a hydrolate and a syrup based on Agastache foeniculum. The invention further relates to a method for growing Agastache foeniculum and to a method for manufacturing the aforementioned and other products with Agastache foeniculum grown in this way. The invention also relates to the use of such an essential oil in various types of medicines and in foodstuffs. Finally, the invention also relates to the use of such a syrup for treating respiratory infections.
The production of essential oil from crude plant material is generally known. To make essential oils that are therapeutically useful, a steam distillation (i.e., a hydro-distillation) or pressing is typically used. In a hydro-distillation, steam is passed through the plants in such a way that the essential oils are carried along by the steam. The steam produced with oils is cooled and the essential oils are separated from the residual water called hydrolyzate and which is also therapeutically useful. However, such an essential oil and hydrolate can only be used if it comprises a sufficient amount of useful substances.
An object of the present invention is to provide a method for growing Agastache foeniculum and for producing an essential oil based on this Agastache foeniculum with favorable properties.
To this end, the invention is distinguished in a method according to claim 1 and in a method according to claim 4. By providing a loam-containing sandy soil with such a soil composition (preferably about 70% loam and 30% sand), the growth of the plants is promoted. Furthermore, the chalk-rich loam-sandy soil preferably rests on a secondary chalk formation. Because of this well-drained substrate, there is little waste of the fertile upper soil layer. This soil composition ensures that the essential oil produced from such plants comprises an increased amount of methyl chavicol and limonene.
In a further aspect, the invention relates to an essential oil according to claim 6. Advantageous embodiments thereof are mentioned in claims 7 to 9.
Voorbeelden daarvan zijn: bier, frisdranken, likeur, milkshake, water, sterke drank, sorbet, siropen (bijvoorbeeld appel of perensiroop), ijscreme, roomijs, pan-nekoeken, pudding, yoghurt, soja, bakkerijproducten, boter of oliën, cacao chocolade, pralines, wafels, gebak, taart, koekjes, ingeblikte groenten en fruit, suikerproducten, snoepgoed, chips, kauwgum, deegwaren, dieetvoeding, fijne vleeswaren, kazen, kruidensiropen. The invention also relates to the use of such an essential oil in a food or beverage product. Examples are: beer, soft drinks, liqueur, milkshake, water, spirits, sorbet, syrups (for example apple or pear syrup), ice cream, ice cream, pancakes, pudding, yogurt, soy, bakery products, butter or oils, cocoa chocolate, chocolates, waffles, pastries, cakes, cookies, canned fruit and vegetables, sugar products, confectionery, chips, chewing gum, pasta, dietetic foods, processed meats, cheeses, herbal syrups.
Verder kan de etherische olie volgens de uitvinding algemeen toegevoegd worden aan poeders, bijvoorbeeld in pil of capsulevorm, medicijnen, zalven, hoestsiropen, tincturen, gezichtscrème, gezichtszeep, reukwerk, rookwaren, waspoeder, scheerschuim, shampoo, handzeep, huidcrème, tandpasta, meststoffen, dierenvoeders, enz.Furthermore, the essential oil according to the invention can generally be added to powders, for example in pill or capsule form, medicines, ointments, cough syrups, tinctures, face cream, face soap, scents, smoking products, washing powder, shaving cream, shampoo, hand soap, skin cream, toothpaste, fertilizers, animal feed, etc.
In yet another aspect, the invention relates to a hydrolate derived from the hydrodistillation used in the process for producing the essential oil. The hydrolate is the distilled water (with traces of the essential oil) that remains after the distillation process is completed. The water still contains all sorts of valuable plant substances, including a fraction of the water-soluble fragrance. The operating range is essentially the same as that of the essential oil but then in a diluted form.
This hydrolate can also be used in certain foods or beverage products such as: beer, cocktails, soft drinks, liqueur, milkshake, water, spirits, sorbet, pesto, gelatin, jelly, syrups (apple or pears), ice cream, ice cream, pancakes, pudding , yogurt, cottage cheese, milk, cream, soy, bakery products, butter or oils, cocoa, chocolate, pralines, waffles, pastries, cakes, cookies, salads, canned fruit and vegetables, sugar products, sweets, chips, chewing gum, pasta, dietetic food, cold cuts. The hydrolate can herein be used, for example, as a colorant or as a flavor enhancer, for example with tea, coffee, cake, lemonade, etc.
The hydrolate according to the invention can further be generally added to: powder, for example in pill or capsule form, medicines, ointments, cough syrup, tinctures, washing powder, shaving cream, shampoo, hand soap, skin cream, toothpaste, in fertilizers, animal feeds, masks, creams , baby care products.
According to a further aspect of the invention, an Agastache foeniculum-based syrup is provided, according to claim 12. Claims 14-16 describe advantageous embodiments of such a syrup for treating the upper, middle and lower airways, respectively.
The invention also relates to a method for making an Agastache foeniculum-based honey as described in claim 20.
Tenslotte betreft de uitvinding een alcoholisch aftreksel van Agastache foeniculum volgens conclusie 21, en een plantenextract volgens conclusie 22.Finally, the invention relates to an alcoholic extract of Agastache foeniculum according to claim 21, and a plant extract according to claim 22.
De samenstelling werd bepaald met behulp van een GC (gas chromato-graaf)/FID (flame ionisation detector)-analyse met een HP 5970 toestel.1) Example of an essential oil according to the invention Agastache foeniculum was grown with seedlings with genetic variations in a soil with the following soil composition: loam-sandy soil (± 70% loam, ± 30% sand). Such seedlings thus come from an Agastache foeniculum plant from which seed is always taken that is sown, so that the genetic variations are obtained. So plant cuttings are not used. The crude plant material was used in a hydro-distillation to obtain an essential oil. The composition of the essential oil thus obtained is included in the table below. The composition was determined using a GC (gas chromatography) / FID (flame ionization detector) analysis with an HP 5970 device.
The high content of limonene is particularly favorable when used as a general strengthening and stimulating agent, antiseptic for the respiratory tract. The high content of methyl chavicol is particularly favorable when used as a harmonizing agent, cramping relieving agent, sedative, anti-anxiety and depression agent. Furthermore, the presence of β-caryophyllene has anti-inflammatory properties and β-caryophyllene acts on the immune system.
Een hoestdrank op basis van suiker bevat bijvoorbeeld: • 500 g ruwe suiker, borstsuiker op draad, esdoornsiroop, rietsuiker, moutsiroop, dadelsiroop of Ahornsiroop • 500 ml infusie of decoct, al naargelang de gebruikte kruiden.2) Examples of three cough syrups according to the invention A cough syrup is made from honey or raw sugar with an infusion or a decoct. For example, a cough drink based on sugar contains: • 500 g of raw sugar, breast sugar on wire, maple syrup, cane sugar, malt syrup, date syrup or maple syrup • 500 ml infusion or decoct, depending on the herbs used.
Hierbij gaat men typisch als volgt tewerk. This is typically done as follows. First 500 ml of an infusion or decoct is made with the desired herbs. This is sieved and poured into a pan. To this is added 500 g of raw sugar while stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. The mixture is allowed to simmer until it becomes syrupy and then allowed to cool.
The syrup is poured into pre-sterilized bottles that are closed with a stopper.
For example, a cough drink based on honey contains: • 500 g of clarified honey • 500 ml of infusion or decoct depending on the herbs used.
Honey has a soothing effect and is a natural disinfectant. Clarified honey is preferably used because it does not crystallize.
The standard dose for such a cough syrup based on honey or sugar is an intake of 3 x daily, 5-10 ml each. Children under the age of two typically take one fifth of the adult dose, children three, four, and five years one quarter, children six, seven, and eight years one third, and children from nine years to puberty half.
To make the cough syrup, proceed as indicated above.
To make the cough syrup, proceed as indicated above.
This applies to all herbs with expectorance or slime-floating herbs, in mixtures or preparations.
To make the cough syrup, proceed as indicated above.
Herbs such as Anise, Canine Trotch, Star Anise, Thyme, Bone Herb, Narrow Plantain, Greek Alant, Eyebright, Hyssop, Pine, Mint, etc. belong to the category of expectorant or expectorant herbs. In combination with Agastache foeniculum, these herbs can lead to a particularly efficient syrup for treating the respiratory tract.
In the month of April a first batch of Agastache foeniculum of 3,000 plants was planted. A second batch of approximately the same size was planted in May. This was repeated in June and July. In this way, plants were in bloom throughout the summer.
The plants in the field were seedlings with a genetic variation of the Agastache plant. The Agastache honey was obtained (by a bee colony) according to a 4-phase working principle: 1st phase: 3,000 plants planted in mid-March, flowering period in early May.
2de fase: 3.000 planten geplant in half april, bloeiperiode begin juni.2nd phase: 3,000 plants planted in mid-April, flowering period early June.
3de fase: 3.000 planten geplant in half mei, bloeiperiode begin juli; 4de fase: 3.000 planten geplant in half juni, bloeiperiode begin augustus.3rd phase: 3,000 plants planted in mid-May, flowering period early July; 4th phase: 3,000 plants planted in mid-June, flowering in early August.
The Agastache flowering time was around 2.5 to 3 months. The flowering period of the 4th phase was from the beginning of August to the end of October. By applying the 4-phase planting, if the honey is purchased in mid-August, supplementing with glucose (sugar water) by the beekeeper is virtually impossible to allow the hives to overwinter.
Preferably we work with Carnica bee colonies. The spring development of this bee species is very fast and a large population strength quickly develops, it hibernates in small colonies and therefore uses little food. Because the Agastache releases enough nectar and pollen during a long period, the Carnica bee colony can last very long. The Carnica flies on Agastache, even in rainy weather (in summer), and from a temperature of 14 ° C in sunny and dry weather until November.
For each hive with around 12,000 bees in the winter months and around 50,000 bees in the high season, a total of (for the entire summer) around 20,000 plants were provided.
Octaaf VAN LAERE, Universiteit Antwerpen, Voorzitter Raad van Bestuur "Vlaams Vulgarisatiecentrum voor Bijenteelt", VVCB v.z.w..The honey made in this way was 90% based on Agastache foeniculum. The purity of the Agastache honey (from this project) was determined by a microscopic pollen analysis. The research was conducted by Prof. dr. ir. Octaaf VAN LAERE, University of Antwerp, Chairman of the Board of Directors "Flemish Vulgarisation Center for Beekeeping", VVCB v.z.w ..
Surprisingly, therefore, it has been established that Agastache plants are particularly suitable for honey production, in particular in regions where the pollen supply of the bee colonies is in default in the late summer.
4) Voorbeeld van een alcoholisch aftreksel volgens de uitvinding op basis van Aaastache foeniculum4) Example of an alcoholic extract according to the invention based on Aaastache foeniculum
For an alcoholic extract, the herb is added to a mixture of alcohol and water. Alcoholic infusions are always made separately and can be combined later. The alcohol extracts the active substances from the plant and acts as a preservative. Alcoholic infusions can usually be stored for at least two years.
Gewoonlijk gebruikt men 40 è 60% alcohol, soms tot 90%.The ratio between alcohol and water depends on the herb used and the type of ingredients that people want to make. Usually 40 to 60% alcohol is used, sometimes up to 90%.
The herbs are cut as finely as possible. The herbs are placed in a large pot and the liquid is poured over it. The lid is screwed on and the jar is placed in a cool place for two weeks and shaken occasionally After two weeks, the mixture is sieved and thoroughly squeezed The filtered liquid is poured into sterilized dark bottles that have a label with contents and date of preparation This alcoholic extract can generally use 20 drops three times a day, for example for the treatment of the respiratory tract, as anti-depressants and as a concentration-stimulant.
