Abstract

The ball has some or all of its surface profile (12) replaced by and/or supplemented (14) with protruding and/or recessed graphic elements that cover all or some of the ball surface. A ball for playing sports such as golf or football has at least one surface profile region replaced by and/or supplemented with elements which can be e.g. company logos (15), licensing figures, letters, numbers, characters, symbols or ball property-modifying parts. These elements can protrude from and/or be recessed into the ball surface and are formed by e.g. moulding, hot pressing, laser treatment, printing, milling, drilling, gluing or laminating, optionally using an automatic computer-controlled machine. These elements cover some or all of the ball surface and are designed to alter the air resistance of the ball. An independent claim is also included for a franchising system comprising the ball and matching gloves (e.g. goalkeeper gloves) and/or sports shoes (e.g. football boots) which have been specially adapted to improve grip with the ball.

  Beschrijving: Sportartikelen met specifieke structuren

  
Er zijn talrijke sportartikelen zoals ballen, schoeisel en handschoenen welke kunnen aangepast worden met specifieke oneffenheden zodat hun eigenschappen verbeteren en waarbij tevens promotionele of commercieel interessante neveneffecten worden bereikt. Enerzijds kunnen dergelijke oneffenheden bij ballen een betere wrijvingscoefficient tov de lucht geven zodat bv. hun snelheid verhoogt omdat het kritisch Reynolds-getal qua snelheid reeds bij een lagere snelheid wordt bereikt, kunnen dergelijke ballen grotere afstanden af leggen, en zijn zij nauwkeuriger. Een goed voorbeeld is de voetbal. De voetbal is heeft een glad oppervlak en dat beperkt de afstand en nauwkeurigheid om bv. curves te maken.

   Door kleine oneffenheden in of op het oppervlak aan te brengen wordt de erg smalle luchtlaag die zich rond een bewegende traditionele bal bevindt aanzienlijk dikker door extra kleine locale wervelingen. Dit wordt reeds toegepast bij een aantal ballen, zoals de golfbal met zgn. dimples, de basketbal en de American football met kleine topjes. Doch ook hier zijn wijzigingen mogelijk, voornamelijk dienstig om uit commercieel opzicht nieuwe unieke ballen te bekomen, en meer bepaald geeft dat nieuwe promotionele toepassingen voor bedrijven en meer plezier voor verzamelaars. En, niet te vergeten, dergelijke unieke ballen zullen ook unieke vlieg-eigenschappen hebben. Deze oneffenheden kunnen ook het spelgebruik vergemakkelijken, denk maar aan het herkennen of identificeren van de eigen golfballen.

   Dus zulke ballen hebben een toegevoegde technische waarde die volgt uit de structurele aanpassingen van het oppervlak en die bovendien een toegevoegde commerciële en persoonlijke waarde meebrengt.

  
Deze uitvinding heeft betrekking op alle soorten van sportballen

  
(40) waarbij specifieke oneffenheden (zoals bv. logo's 15 van bedrijven, figuurtjes, letters 32, cijfers, karakters, symbolen, etc.) ter vervanging (Fig. 2) en/of als aanvulling (14) van bestaande (12) oneffenheden, of als nieuw eigenschap (53), als indrukking (44) en/ of ronddrukking op het geheel of gedeeltelijk baloppervlak. Dus bij type ballen die reeds bepaalde oneffenheden hebben kunnen deze oneffenheden vervangen worden door nieuwe varianten, en bij ballen die nog geen oneffenheden bezitten kunnen allerlei types van oneffenheden worden aangebracht. In beide gevallen worden het effect van de lucht tov de bal gewijzigd.

   Het aanbrengen van de oneffenheden gebeurt hetzij in één of meerdere van de productie-processen (bv. in de tegenvorm 63 van de golfbal matrijs 60 verwerkt), hetzij na het productie-proces (bv. via thermisch druk, via laser-behandeling, gravering, frezen, boren, etc.). Met indrukking wordt bedoeld het maken van een kleinere verlaagde zone tov een oppervlak (dus eenvoudig gezegd:'putjes'). Met ronddrukking wordt bedoelt dat een groter deel van het oppervlak wordt verlaagd en een kleiner rest-deel verhoogd blijft
(dus zeg maar:'topjes'). Daarbij kan eventueel thermische preegtechniek (met bovenmatrijs en/ of tegenmatrijs) gebruikt worden op het basis-materiaal. Door het aanbrengen van de oneffenheden wordt de luchtweerstand-eigenschappen van de betreffende bal gewijzigd.

   Dergelijke speficieke oneffenheden - zoals bv. micro logo's, micro of mini licensing figuurtjes - kunnen ook op de daarbij horende andere sportartikelen zoals schoeisel, handschoenen, handgrepen worden toegepast om juist het wrijvingsaspekt met de ballen en/ of de handgreep te verhogen. Een voetbal paneel (41) kan bv. een groot logo in lichte diepdruk hebben waardoor het trappen niet wordt beinvloed maar wel sneller een verhoogde lucht grenslaag wordt bereikt.

  
Bij golfballen (80) zijn diverse nieuwe variantes mogelijk. Een golfbal (10, 81) kan in tenminste één van de dimples (11, 82, 83, 84) tenopzichte van de normale dimple-curve (12) een verhoogd (13) en/of verlaagd (14) logo (15) en/of andere specifieke oneffenheid hebben (bv. een schelp, een maan, een letter, een naam, initiaal, schild, etc). Hier wordt aangegeven dat de dimples binnenin bijkomende oneffenheden kunnen bevatten. De vliegeigenschappen zullen daardoor wijzigen. Het wordt aldus een nieuw type van promotionele golfbal.

  
De matrijs (60) voor golfballen is een insert-mould waarbij een bijkomende kunststof-laag via de injectie-kanalen (65) over de zgn. 'core' (61) wordt gebracht. De matrijs is eventueel uitgerust met tenminste één uitstoter (64) met op zijn kop - die in de caviteit (62) van de matrijs (60) komt - tenminste één specifieke oneffenheid

  
(63) zoals bv. een logo (31). Voor grote hoeveelheden van specifieke golfballen (bv. met Schelp dimples) wordt een specifieke matrijs gebruikt.

  
Bij een traditionele golfbal (20) kan tenminste één van de dimples volledig vervangen worden door een verlaagde specifieke oneffenheid (21), bv. een logo (22). Dit zal zijn normaal vliegeigenschappen bijna niet wijzigen indien het slechts één of enkele dimples betreft. Dit kan ook een uitstekend promotie middel zijn. Tot nu toe werden promotionele golfballen enkel via normale druk-technieken van logo's en andere opdrukken voorzien. Maar indien alle of bijna alle traditionele dimples vervangen worden door bv. logo's dan hangt het af van de unieke combinatie of het opzet van de interposities hoe het gedrag zal zijn. Het is te verwachten dat dit tot ongekende positieve effecten leidt. Het is mogelijk via computerprogramma's de optimale vliegeigenschappen bij diverse alternatieve posities van logodimples en/ of tekst-dimples te berekenen.

   Daarbij zal rekening gehouden worden met de hoek van elke specifieke oneffenheid tov het baloppervlak. Dergelijke golfbal kan dus zelfs tegelijkertijd traditionele dimples bevatten alsook logo-dimples, symbooldimples en tekst-dimples (83). Bij een golfbal (88) van dit nieuwe type zullen alle dimples dus één type of meerdere types specifieke oneffenheden hebben (bv. allemaal schelpjes in golfbal 88), en géén enkele normale dimple. Uit prijs- en productie-overwegingen zal in dit geval zeker een speciale matrijs opportuun zijn.

  
Bij de golfbal kunnen dergelijke specifieke oneffenheden (31, 32) diverse soorten nieuwe types van dimples - op diverse wijzes over het oppervlak (30) worden verdeeld zodat het oppervlak quasi volledig bedekt wordt.

  
Bij een quasi volledig traditionele golfbal kan tenminste één van de dimples (85) ontbreken. Dus deze golfbal wordt dan verkocht met één of meerdere lege posities waar normaal ook dimples staan. Op zulke plaats met een glad oppervlak kan dan tenminste één identificatie-symbool, initiaal, tekst, schildje, nummer of logo gegraveerd, gefreesd, gelaseerd en/ of op andere wijze in relief kan ingeplaatst. Die nieuwe inham functioneert dan als dimple en veroorzaakt eveneens micro-wervelingen die de lucht-grenslaag zullen verhogen. Dit is dus een golfbal (87) met tenminste één zone zonder dimples of specifieke oneffenheden.

  
Deze golfbal kan ook tenminste twee zones hebben zonder dimples of specifieke oneffenheden. De gladde zones kunnen tenopzichte van elkaar hetzij in diverse symmetrische posities staan, bv. polair, tetrahedisch (86), pentahedrische, ... cubisch, dodecahedrisch, etc., hetzij in asymmetrische posities staan, hetzij in combinaties van voorgaanden, al dan niet volgens bepaalde gewenste wiskundige of geometrische patronen. Dit lijkt ons een zeer eenvoudige maar erg interessante nieuwe ontwikkeling.

  
Een golfbal (10, 81) kan ook zodanig behandeld worden dat tenminste één van de dimples (11, 16, 82, 83, 84) geheel of gedeeltelijk wordt uitgeboord of op andere wijze wordt verwijderd tot een lager niveau (19). Eventueel kan een lijm (18) worden aangebracht. Nadien wordt dan een al dan niet gekleurde inlegstuk (17B) geplaatst (inschuiven, inschoeven, inklikken, etc) waarbij het inleg-stuk hetzij reeds een specifiek relief bezit (bv. een schelp), hetzij de normale bal-curve (17A) volgt, dus bv. een zone van nondimple schept. Dan kan deze nieuwe - eventueel anders gekleurde zone - eventueel bewerkt worden tot een specifieke oneffenheid. 

  
In plaats van een inleg-stukje kan er ook een opvulsel gebruikt worden dat uithardt. Bij een golfbal (10, 81) kan dan tenminste één van de dimples (11, 16, 82, 83, 84) geheel of gedeeltelijk worden uitgeboord of op andere wijze worden verwijderd tot een lager niveau (19) dat dan nadien met een al dan niet gekleurde lijm en/of vulsel wordt opgevuld en nadien - na verharding - wordt bewerkt tot een specifieke oneffenheid. Dit is een zeer eenvoudig procédé dat added value geeft. Zowel inlegstukjes als opvulsels met nabehandeling geven de mogelijkheid aan de golf fan om zijn eigen ballen goed en permanent te herkennen.

  
De nabehandeling van golfballen kan via een computergestuurde machine gebeuren welke traditionele golfballen (80) en/ of golfballen met dimple-loze zones automatisch aanvoert op een bekende technische wijze (bv. via vacuumzuiging), hen positioneert en vervolgens een voorafgeprogrammeerde specifieke oneffenheid hetzij respectievelijk in een dimple, hetzij op een gladde zone, hetzij in een inlegstuk, laseert, graveert, freest, boort of op andere wijze in relief plaatst. Voorafgaand aan deze behandeling kan de computer een programma uitvoeren om de luchtweerstand, diverse Reynolds parameters en de verwachtte bewegingen van de gewenste golfbal te berekenen. Zo kan de klant/opdrachtgever vooraf het theoretisch effect van zijn unieke golfbal kennen, en eventueel nog wijzigingen of alternatieven laten aanbrengen.

   Zulke machine ook op locatie bij een winkel (bv. van het golfterrein) geinstalleerd zijn en/of bij een franchise-nemer in het kader van een franchise systeem dat wordt opgezet voor het professioneel commercializeren van deze nieuwigheid.

  
Het franchise systeem kan erg interresant zijn. Aan de franchisenemer wordt een uitgebreid technisch en commercieel pakket aangeboden ivm de beschreven golfbal-technologie zoals: de aanlevering van alle types van golfballen, grondstoffen, vulmateriaal, inlegstukken, verpakkingen, technische opleiding, computergestuurde machine, software programma's, upgrades, werktuigen, gebruik trademarks, diverse garanties, nazorg, vervangingsmateriaal, promotie-materiaal, online ondersteuning, web-promotie, professioneel Internet forum, web-affiliates program, markt-protectie, markt-studies, consultancy, congress, etc..

  
Hierna gaan wij even in op andere specifieke ballen:

  
Een voetbal (40) waarbij in tenminste één van de panelen (41) tenopzichte van de normale paneel-curve (42) tenminste één verlaagd (43) logo (44) en/ of andere specifieke oneffenheid wordt aangebracht (bv. een logo contour, een schelp, een zon, een letter, een naam 45, etc) kan erg populair worden. Dit geldt eveneens voor de waterpolobal.

  
Een base-ball (70) - die momenteel ook in synthetisch leder worden gemaakt - waarbij in tenminste één van de panelen tenopzichte van de normale paneel-curve een verlaagd logo (71) en/of andere specifieke oneffenheid wordt ingedrukt zodat nog meer kromme ballen kunnen gegooid worden. Bij natuurlijk leder kunnen ook indrukken gemaakt worden. Dit geldt evenzeer voor de criketball.

  
Een basketball waarbij tenminste één van de traditionele topjes wordt vervangen door een verhoogd logotje en/ of andere specifieke oneffenheid (bv. een schelp, een maan, een letter, een naam, etc) en/ of verlaagde specifieke oneffenheden in het oppervlak tussen de topjes worden aangebracht zal ook andere unieke curve eigenschappen bezitten. Dit geldt eveneens voor de American football.

  
Een nieuwe zogenaamde Lolo-bal - een quasi dubbele bal uit één geheel (50) waarrond in de smallere middenzone (51) een kunststof ring (52) is geplaatst - waarbij tenopzichte van het normale balcurve tenminste één verlaagd (53) of verhoogd (54) logo en/of andere specifieke oneffenheid wordt aangebracht (bv. een logo contour, een schelp, een maan, een letter, een naam, een cirkel 55 etc) kan een nieuwe meer stabiel en veiliger speelgoed vormen. De Lolo-bal was een rage product in de 80/90-er jaren uitgebracht door fabrikant Elson.

  
Verder kan ook de petanque bal (ook zgn. Jeu de boules) aangepast worden waarbij tenopzichte van de normale bal-curve tenminste één verlaagd logo en/ of andere specifieke oneffenheid wordt aangebracht (bv. een logo contour, een schelp, een maan, een letter, een naam, etc). Dit geldt voor alle variaties bv. de plastieken ballen-set voor strand en ballen-baden (bv. bij hamburger restaurants).

  
Al deze sportballen kunnen uit diverse natuurlijke en/ of kunststof materialen bestaan, of combinaties ervan, en zij kunnen geproduceerd worden op hun traditionele wijze mits aanpassing(en) om de specifieke oneffenheden aan te brengen. Zij kunnen als promotioneel middel gebruikt worden en ondermeer een verzamelobject worden waarbij iedere bal met zijn unieke specifieke oneffenheden een eigen vlieg-gedrag heeft, alsook een eigen uitzicht. De specifieke oneffenheden kunnen gelijktijdig worden aangebracht of afgewerkt worden met één of meerdere verf-, inkt- en/ of druk-technieken (bv. thermo-folie transfer systemen). Een print-techniek kan ook de zgn. 'helm' zijn.

  
Ook artikelen die gerelateerd zijn sport zoals schoeisel kunnen met deze oneffenheden uitgerust zijn. Bv. Een voetbalschoen waarbij op tenminste één locatie van zijn top (punt) en/ of zijkant van de schoen tenminste één verhoogd logotje en/of andere specifieke oneffenheid (bv. een schelp, een maan, een letter, een naam, etc) en/ of verlaagde specifieke oneffenheden in het oppervlak worden aangebracht. Een techniek om dit te bereiken is bv. de hoger vermelde ronddrukking. Zulke topjes zullen bij dat type van productie zachter zijn, en dus veiliger bij contact van de schoen met een andere speler. De topjes geven echter ook een hechter impakt op de bal bij het moment van het contact en maken het mogelijk meer rotatie op een voetbal te geven, en zeker op een met specieke oneffenheden uitgevoerde voetbal.

   De topjes op een schoen kunnen van dimensie verschillen afhankelijk van de plaats op de schoen, bv. aan de binnenvoet zachter dan op de top.

  
Ook handschoenen kunnen op tenminste één locatie van de buitenzijde (bv. de handgreepzijde) tenminste één verhoogd logotje en/of andere specifieke oneffenheid en/of verlaagde specifieke oneffenheden in of op het oppervlak hebben. Zulke handschoenen zullen een voetbal met oneffenheden beter stoppen.

  
Ook handgrepen van bv. een golfstick, een tennis-racket, kunnen op tenminste één locatie van de buitenzijde tenminste één verhoogd logotje en/ of andere specifieke oneffenheid en/ of verlaagde specifieke oneffenheden in het oppervlak hebben. Natuurlijk worden deze op het ganse greep-oppervlak geplaatst maar hun densiteit en hun dimensies kunnen variëren.

  
Bij een aantal sportballen met een verlaagde zone kan een los inlegstuk met reliëf worden geplaatst, zoals verlijmd of gelamineerd. Dit geeft meer dynamische mogelijkheden.

  
Deze sportballen hebben door de aangebrachte specifieke oneffenheden een lager kritisch Reynolds-getal en daardoor wordt een nieuwe markt van sportartikelen en promotie-artikelen geopend.

This is already applied to a number of balls, such as the golf ball with so-called dimples, the basketball and the American football with small tops. But here too changes are possible, primarily useful to obtain new unique balls from a commercial point of view, and in particular this gives new promotional applications for companies and more fun for collectors. And, not to mention, such unique balls will also have unique flying characteristics. These irregularities can also facilitate the use of the game, just think of recognizing or identifying your own golf balls.

   So such balls have an added technical value that follows from the structural adjustments of the surface and that moreover entails an added commercial and personal value.

Various new variants are possible with golf balls (80). A golf ball (10, 81) can have an increased (13) and / or lowered (14) logo (15) in at least one of the dimples (11, 82, 83, 84) compared to the normal dimple curve (12) / or have other specific unevenness (eg a shell, a moon, a letter, a name, initial, shield, etc.). It is indicated here that the dimples may contain additional irregularities inside. The flight characteristics will therefore change. It thus becomes a new type of promotional golf ball.

  
The mold (60) for golf balls is an insert mold in which an additional plastic layer is passed over the so-called 'core' (61) via the injection channels (65). With a traditional golf ball (20), at least one of the dimples can be completely replaced by a reduced specific bump (21), e.g. a logo (22). This will hardly change its normal flight characteristics if it concerns only one or a few dimples. This can also be an excellent promotional tool. Up to now, promotional golf balls have only been provided with logos and other imprints via normal printing techniques. But if all or almost all traditional dimples are replaced by, for example, logos, it depends on the unique combination or design of the interpositions how the behavior will be. This is expected to lead to unprecedented positive effects. It is possible to calculate the optimal flight characteristics with various alternative positions of logo dimps and / or text dimples via computer programs.

   The angle of each specific unevenness with respect to the ball surface will be taken into account. Such a golf ball can thus simultaneously contain traditional dimples as well as logo dimples, symbol dimples and text dimples (83). With a golf ball (88) of this new type, all dimples will therefore have one type or more types of specific irregularities (eg all shells in golf ball 88), and not some normal dimple. For price and production reasons, a special mold will certainly be appropriate in this case.

  
With the golf ball, such specific unevennesses (31, 32) various types of new types of dimples can be distributed over the surface (30) in various ways so that the surface is almost completely covered.

  
With a quasi-completely traditional golf ball, at least one of the dimples (85) can be missing. So this golf ball is then sold with one or more empty positions where normally there are dimples. This new inlet then functions as a dimple and also causes micro-swirls that will increase the air-boundary layer. This golf ball can also have at least two zones without dimples or specific bumps. The smooth zones can be in different symmetrical positions with respect to each other, eg polar, tetrahedic (86), pentahedric, ... cubic, dodecahedric, etc., or in asymmetrical positions, or in combinations of preceding ones, whether or not according to certain desired mathematical or geometric patterns. This seems to us to be a very simple but very interesting new development.

  
A golf ball (10, 81) can also be treated in such a way that at least one of the dimples (11, 16, 82, 83, 84) is fully or partially drilled out or otherwise removed to a lower level (19). A glue (18) can optionally be applied. Afterwards, an insert (17B), colored or not, is inserted (retracting, inserting, snap-in, etc.), the insert either already having a specific relief (eg a shell), or following the normal ball curve (17A) , so for example creates a zone of nondimple. This is a very simple process that gives added value. Both inserts and pads with after-treatment give the golf fan the opportunity to recognize his own balls well and permanently.

  
The after-treatment of golf balls can be done via a computer-controlled machine which automatically supplies traditional golf balls (80) and / or golf balls with dimple-free zones in a known technical manner (eg via vacuum suction), positions them and then a pre-programmed specific unevenness or respectively in places a dimple, either on a smooth zone or in an insert, inlays, engraves, mills, drills or otherwise in relief. Prior to this treatment, the computer may execute a program to calculate the air resistance, various Reynolds parameters, and the expected movements of the desired golf ball. This way, the client / client can know the theoretical effect of his unique golf ball in advance, and possibly have changes or alternatives made.

   Such a machine is also installed on location at a store (eg of the golf course) and / or at a franchisee as part of a franchise system set up for the commercialization of this novelty.
