Brandwerende lamellen.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Fire resistant slats.
This invention relates to fire-resistant slats, in particular fire-resistant slats for slat gates, shutters, walls or the like.
The known fire-resistant slats are generally made from non-flammable or heat-resistant materials such as steel or aluminum.
It is well known that steel slats are heavy, so that the slat gates, the roller shutters or the walls in which the aforementioned slats are processed not only become heavy and awkward, but also cause the cost price to be increased by, among other things, the heavy excitation motor that must be provided.
Alternatively, the slats are made of aluminum, making them lighter and allowing the profiles to be extruded. However, the cost price is then mainly boosted by the use of the more expensive aluminum.
For both of the aforementioned embodiments, there is also the disadvantage that a slat gate or roller shutter or wall is never completely windproof and that opening and closing makes a disturbing noise.
The object of the invention is to provide a fire-resistant slat which avoids the aforementioned and other disadvantages.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To this end the invention relates to a fire-resistant slat for slat gates, roller shutters, walls or the like, wherein the slat consists essentially of a hollow plastic profile in which a swelling product is arranged.
By swelling product is meant any substance that foams on heating with a significant volume increase and still remains stiff. Preferably, no toxic fumes are released when the swelling product is heated.
Known swelling products contain, for example, graphite, alum, certain salts and / or certain bromides.
The advantage of such a slat is that plastic profiles can be manufactured lightly and at a low cost price, and moreover that the plastic can be colored in the mass, so that no layers of paint have to be applied for this.
Plastic has not hitherto been regarded as a suitable material for fire-resistant slats for slat gates, shutters, walls or the like, but because a swelling product is provided in the plastic profile, the swelling product will expand when heated and it will broaden the slats in this way , so that a wider and more difficult to penetrate barrier is obtained for a possible fire source.
According to a preferred embodiment, the fire-resistant slat according to the invention is provided with a tongue and a groove, so that two cooperating slats obtain a good air seal.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The invention also relates to a slat gate, roller shutter or wall, wherein it is essentially composed of slats according to the invention.
In addition to the favorable cost price, the high fire resistance and good air barrier of such a slatted gate, roller shutter or wall also count as important advantages.
Moreover, such a slat gate, roller shutter or wall offers the advantage that they make significantly less disturbing noise when opening and closing it and can be obtained in a wide range of colors without the risk of paint peeling and subsequent corrosion.
Finally, we note that the light structure not only makes the auxiliary parts such as the excitation motor of such a slat gate, roller shutter or wall cheaper, but also greatly simplifies its operation and possibly makes a motor superfluous.
Moreover, the light structure allows a slatted gate or roller shutter according to the invention to also be used horizontally, for example for closing a swimming pool or as a removable roof element.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features of the invention, a few preferred embodiments of the invention are described below as examples without any limiting character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
figures 1 to 4 represent cross-sectional embodiments of a fire-resistant slat according to the invention; figure 5 represents the part on a larger scale, as indicated by F5 in figure 2; figure 6 schematically and in perspective represents a slat gate according to the invention; figure 7 represents a section according to line VII-VII in figure 6; figure 8 represents the part on a larger scale, as indicated by F8 in figure 7.
As shown in Figure 1, the invention relates to a fire-resistant slat 1 for slat gates, shutters, walls or the like, wherein the slat consists essentially of a hollow plastic profile 2 in which a swelling product 3 is arranged.
The swelling product may, for example, contain graphite, alum, certain salts or bromides, and has the property of foaming and remaining stiff when heated.
The profile 2 is made according to the invention from extruded PVC.
The profile 2 has a substantially rectangular cross section, wherein in this embodiment the first short side 4 is provided with a tooth 5, and the second and opposite short side 6 is provided with a groove 7.
The aforementioned opposite sides 4 and 6 are both
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
provided with a bevel 8, 9 respectively, in connection with the tooth 5 and the groove 7, respectively, and extending to the same long side 10.
The tooth 5 and the groove 7 are provided with corresponding roundings 11 and 12 respectively, which, when the aforementioned tooth 5 is arranged in a groove 7 of an adjacent second slat 1, can pivot together.
Figures 2 to 4 show some other special embodiments of the slat 1 according to the invention, wherein one or two carriers 13 are arranged in the profile 2, for example one or two wooden slats around which the swelling product 3 is provided.
As is shown enlarged in Figure 5, spacers 14 for the carrier 13 are provided on the inside of the profile 2, in order to prevent a carrier 13 from resting against the inner wall of the profile 2 to ensure that the carrier 13 completely surrounded by a swelling product 3.
Figures 6 to 8 show a slat gate 15 assembled from slats, as shown in Figure 1.
The slats 1 of such a slat gate 15 are arranged laterally between guides 16, and are pivotally connected by the cooperating teeth 5 and grooves 7 of adjacent slats 1.
In this special embodiment, the slats 1 are in
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
line with the teeth 5 and the grooves 7 provided with feed-through openings 17, through which in each case a cable 18 or the like is passed.
In this embodiment, the lower slat 1 is provided with a cavity 19 in which a locking clip 20 is arranged, which secures the cable 18 with the aforementioned lower slat 1.
The cable 18 is connected near its end 21 to a drum 22 of the rolling-up mechanism (not shown).
The operation of the above fire-resistant slat 1 is extremely simple and as follows.
At rising temperature in the event of a fire or the like, the swelling product 3 will foam, causing the slat 1 to expand, and this while the swelling product 3 remains rigid.
This creates a wider and more difficult to penetrate barrier for a possible fire.
The operation of the above-mentioned slat gate 15 is special in the fact that the rounded teeth 5 and grooves 7 work well together in such a way that a windproof seal is obtained, and that the presence of the upwardly directed teeth 5 prevents seepage of blow water.
Such a windproof closure is also crucial during a possible fire, because in this way no additional oxygen is supplied along the lamella gate 15 and the flames cannot spread.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
In the lowered or closed state of the slat gate 15, the slats 1 can rest on each other, thereby furthermore promoting good closure.
To retrieve the slat gate 15, the cables 18 must be pulled up, for example by driving the drum 22.
The lower slat 1 and indirectly also the slats 1 located above it are raised, and this while the guides 16 and upwards also the cables 18 determine the direction of the displacement.
Where the slats 1 have to pivot, it is clear that both the roundings 11 and 12 at the location of the tooth 5, the groove 7, and the chamfer 8 and 9, respectively, allow this mutual rotation.
It is clear that, not only in the lower slat 1 and possibly the upper slat 1, also in intermediate slats 1 cavities 19 and associated locking clips 20 can be provided.
Such intermediate retaining clips 20 guarantee that in the event of any heating, for example due to a fire, the slats 1 are not all stacked together and with cumulated effect slid down by any deformations of the slats 1. Intermediate retaining clips, for example every six or seven slats 1, occur that in such circumstances large openings arise between the slats 1, whereby fire safety is further increased.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
It is clear that the shape of the profiles 2 is not important for the smooth operation of the slats 1, and that instead of the substantially rectangular shape, the profile 1 can take all other possible forms, as long as at the tooth 5 and the groove 7 is left with sufficient space, so that the mutual rotation remains protected.
For slat gates or shutters to be fitted horizontally, for example above a swimming pool or as a roof element, a suitable shape can be provided that increases the bending resistance.
The slats 1 do not have to be made completely hollow, and the swelling product 3 does not have to fill all the holes in the profiles 2 either.
It is also clear that the passage openings 17 are not to be arranged in line with the teeth 5 and the grooves 7, but such a unique position promotes the mutual rotation of the slats 1. The teeth 5 and grooves 7 of the slats 1 serve others not to be provided near the center of the short sides 4 and 6.
The slats 1 according to the invention can be manufactured in other plastics in addition to the usual PVC, but PVC offers the well-known advantages of durability, simple machining and maintenance-friendliness.
The present invention is by no means limited to the examples described and shown in the figures
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
embodiments, but such fire-resistant slat and slat gate can be made in different shapes and dimensions, without departing from the scope of the invention.
