<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
bepaald transportsysteem.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

INSTALLATION AND METHOD FOR PROCESSING ANIMAL AND
VEGETABLE WASTE PRODUCTS Object of the invention The object of the invention is an installation for processing organic products, such as animal droppings or vegetable waste products.
State of the art Existing techniques for processing animal or vegetable waste products are generally too environmentally harmful. The recent European regulations in this regard, in particular, place increasing demands.
The so-called 'Broom' directives require that manure waste that is traded in the EC must undergo a heat treatment of at least one hour at 70 ° C or more, in order to make the manure germ-free.
Most existing techniques that rely primarily on low temperature drying methods do not meet these stricter conditions. An additional heat treatment is always required to obtain a germ-free product.
Object of the invention The object of the invention is to propose an installation that imposes the required heat treatment
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to the products to be treated, so that they can be processed in an environmentally friendly way.
Main features of the invention The invention relates to an installation and a method for processing animal and vegetable waste products, as described in the appended claims.
DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES FIG. 1 shows a schematic view of the installation according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION As can be seen in Figure 1, the installation according to the present invention is characterized by the presence of a so-called Bio Heater 1. This is an enclosed space into which a mixture of product to be treated is introduced, wherein this mixture has a predetermined degree of humidity.
Ideally this is done by starting from a supply of liquid product 2, in practice this means for example humidity of 92%, and a supply of predominantly dry product 3 (for example humidity of 30%), and mixing the two in a mixer 4. The dry product 3 is typically a return product that has already undergone a first drying.
The mixer 4 is preferably provided with a weighing installation that can weigh the contents of the mixer at desired times. This serves to determine the amount of liquid and dry product introduced, among other things
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
control the mixing ratio of the mixture introduced into the bio-heater.
At the bottom of the mixer is a shut-off valve (not shown in Figure 1), which is closed during weighing and then opened to add a certain amount of the mixture (e.g. 800 kg) to the bio-heater.
A preferred mixing ratio contains 50 to 60% dry matter in the mixture. The mixture is then brought from the mixer to the bio-heater via a line 20.
The bio-heater itself is the characteristic part of an installation according to the invention. It is a closed space of sufficiently large dimensions, preferably a beam-shaped, insulated cabinet. The dimensions depend mainly on the capacity of the dryer located downstream of the heater.
The product exiting the mixer is introduced on one side (inlet side) of the heater, and is then advanced to the other side (outlet side). The dimensions of the bio-heater are at least such that the product stays in this heater for 15 to 20 hours. At that time, the product must be made essentially germ-free, by heating the product in the heater.
This heating is done by the bacteriological action in the organic material, and by introducing appropriate amounts of oxygen into the product. A compressor 5 provides the necessary oxygen supply. This compressor preferably supplies preheated air coming from the cogeneration 13 (see further). The product itself is propelled in the bio-heater by a not further
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
certain transport system. According to the preferred embodiment, this system is based on a hydraulically driven roller step floor. A leveling auger is present at the inlet in the bio-heater, in order to obtain a layer with a more or less constant thickness. The oxygen is blown through the layer of product to be treated at the bottom of the bio-heater, through a tube with perforations, which is located on the roller-step floor.
As a result, the bacteriological warming takes place.
After the bio-heater, the germ-free product ends up in a dryer 6. Preferably, the drying takes place in a four-storey vertical dryer, whereby the product slowly moves from the fourth (= highest) to the first (= lowest) floor. Each floor consists of an air duct with regularly spaced openings that direct preheated air through the product.
This air is sucked through the product, so that the moisture and the emissions can be carried to the gas washer 7 and the deodorization filter 8. The underpressure is obtained by a fan 9. The purified gases leave the installation via the chimney 10.
At the bottom of the dryer, the dried product is collected on the one hand and discharged to a storage space 11. The end product is a concentrate containing, for example, 85% or more dry matter. This can vary depending on the throughput speed in the dryer.
Part of the dried product is recycled in a feedback line 12 to the mixer 4.
A part of the treated product thus travels through the heater several times.
This has the advantage that a bacterial culture that prevails in the product that comes out of the heater passes through the dryer
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
and is then partially used as a carrier for the newly supplied product. In this way a direct inoculation of bacteria takes place on the newly supplied product, as a result of which that product will heat up faster in the heater.
The drying process which takes place in the dryer 6 is accelerated by the fact that the product has already been heated in the heater. This saves energy. The rest of the energy required for the drying process is supplied by a combined heat and power coupling 13, d. i. a power group, preferably operating with a diesel or gas engine. The generated electricity is used for driving the fan and other auxiliary installations, while the heat produced by the engine, as well as the heat from the exhaust, is supplied via connection 14 to the dryer 6.
It is also possible that warm air coming from the ventilation of the stable 30 can be supplied directly to the dryer. In this way, additional energy can be saved and the stall air can be purified via the gas washer. According to the preferred embodiment, preheated air from the cogeneration 13 is also supplied to the inlet of the compressor 5, which brings this air to the bio-heater.
A connection 15 is provided between the gas washer 7 and the bio-heater 1. As a result, the interior of the heater is also placed at a reduced pressure. This has the advantage that no bad-smelling emissions can escape from the bio-heater 1.
The gas washer 7 preferably works on the basis of sulfuric acid. An active carbon filter is preferable for the deodorization filter 8.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The invention is also related to the method for germinating and drying waste product of animal and / or vegetable origin, in particular using a bio-heater. The crucial steps in this process are.
- preparing a mixture of product to be treated, said mixture having a given degree of humidity, - introducing said mixture into a closed, isolated room, a so-called "Bio-heater", - propelling the mixture into the bio-heater, with the addition of oxygen, so that the mixture warms up as a result of bacteriological action in the mixture, - introducing the mixture treated in the bio-heater into a dryer, and drying the mixture, with the addition of heat, - removing the dried product from the dryer.
As previously stated in the description of the installation, the residence time of the product in the bio-heater is preferably more than 15 hours, and preferably also a recirculation is provided with a part of the dried product.
