<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Improved beacon.
The invention relates to improved beacons, more particularly beacons which are used for road signs in order to mark dangerous places, such as for example to signal refuges in the middle of roads, or to delimit certain sections of road which are prohibited for the road traffic, for example by virtue of limiting the speed of vehicles on other road sections.
The invention relates more particularly to beacons of the type comprising a barrel of mainly tubular shape which is made of synthetic material and which is optionally provided with reflective signaling means.
Known beacons have the disadvantage that, in the event of an impact, for example following a collision by a vehicle, the barrel can be fragmented and the pieces can be projected all around. On the one hand, these pieces can possibly injure people near the accident site, and on the other hand, these pieces are also dispersed on the road, thus forming dangerous obstacles for traffic.
The object of the invention is to remedy the above-mentioned drawback and to provide a beacon which, in the event of a collision, does not generate parts which are projected all around.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This object is achieved by the fact that a beacon of the known type as described above is provided with a fabric.
According to the invention, the fabric is preferably fixed on at least part of the interior surface of the barrel and / or on part of the exterior surface of the barrel and / or is integrated into the material of the barrel during the manufacture of the barrel. by any process known per se.
An important advantage of a beacon according to the invention is that, when the beacon is struck by a vehicle, the possible fragments produced by the impact are not projected, but are, on the contrary, retained together by the fact that the fabric mentioned , by its nature, remains mainly whole.
Thus, with a beacon according to the invention, there is no risk that the fragments could injure people who are close to the accident and that these fragments or pieces are thrown onto the road, thus forming a potential danger. for traffic.
For greater clarity, two exemplary embodiments of beacons according to the invention are described below by way of illustration and without limitation, reference being made to the appended drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a tag according to the invention; Figures 2 and 3 show a section along lines II-II and III-III respectively of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
figure 1 ; FIG. 4 represents the part indicated in F4 in FIG. 1, part of the bole of the beacon being removed; Figures 5 and 6 are sectional views similar to those of Figures 2 and 3 respectively, but for an alternative embodiment of a tag according to the invention.
The tag, according to FIGS. 1 to 4, is essentially constituted by a barrel 1 fixed on a sole 2.
The barrel 1, preferably made of synthetic material, is mainly tubular in shape and is composed of a lower cylindrical part 3 and an upper conical part 4.
Outside, the cylindrical part 3 is provided with several circular reinforcing ribs 5 which extend at different levels around the barrel 1.
The lower end of the barrel is provided with a rib 6 which can be of shape and dimensions equal to those of the ribs 5.
The sole 2 consists of a disc 7, preferably also made of synthetic material, which is provided with a central hole 8, the upper surface of the disc 7 being provided with an annular protuberance 5 having in its inner surface a circumferential groove 10, with which the said rib 6 of said barrel 1 can cooperate.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The shape and dimensions of the rib 6 are such that they can be engaged in the circumferential groove 10.
The beacon is preferably provided with reflective signaling means 11, such as retro-reflectors or adhesive strips which are glued around the barrel, for example between certain ribs 9.
It is obvious that the reflective signaling means 11 can also be produced by the choice of the synthetic material itself, for example by choosing a fluorescent material or a material with a bright color, such as red or yellow.
The tag can be fixed to the ground 12, for example by means of a bolt 13 which is screwed into a suitable nut 14 fixed in the ground 12.
A metal disc 15 is advantageously provided between the sole 2 and the head of the bolt 13.
According to the invention, the tag is lined with a flexible fabric 16 which can withstand impacts.
The term flexible fabric must be interpreted in a very broad way and can for example also cover a textile fabric or synthetic material or even metal, as well as a fabric in the form of film, yes or not reinforced.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In the example of FIGS. 1 to 4, the fabric 16 is fixed to the inner surface of the cylindrical part 3 of the barrel 1, for example by gluing, and preferably, but not necessarily, extends over practically the entire height and on the entire circumference of this part 3.
The advantageous effect of providing the barrel 1 of such a fabric 16 according to the invention is obvious.
Indeed, in the event of a collision, the barrel 1 can break into several pieces, while the fabric 16 remains whole since it can withstand the impact of the collision. After impact, the fabric 16 will hold the pieces of the barrel 1 together and in this way, prevent the pieces from being thrown all around.
It is obvious that the barrel can also be provided with a fabric applied to the exterior of the barrel, yes or no in combination with a fabric applied to the interior, and this locally or over the height of the barrel 1, with the same benefits.
In the case of the alternative embodiment represented in FIGS. 5 and 6, the fabric 16 is integrated into the material of the barrel 1, for example by introducing into the matrix of the barrel, before the synthetic material is injected, said fabric 16 .
It is clear that in the latter case, the same advantages are obtained as in the case where the fabric 16 is applied to the interior or exterior surface of the barrel 1 and that it is not excluded to combine an integrated fabric 16 with
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
fabrics 16 applied to the interior or exterior surface of the barrel 1.
According to a preferred embodiment, the sole 2 is fixed to the barrel by fusion, preferably under the effect of the heat obtained by the friction caused between the sole.
2 and the barrel 1, rotating at relatively high speed, one relative to the other.
It is obvious that in this case the barrel 1 and the sole 2 are made of thermoplastic material.
In this way the barrel and the sole are securely linked together, in such a way that there is no risk that the barrel 1 is torn from the sole 2 during a collision and that the barrel 1 is projected onto the road.
It is obvious that the invention can be applied as well in the case of beacons with ribs 5-6, as in the case of beacons without ribs, with a smooth outer surface.
It goes without saying that the invention is also valid for tags without a sole.
It is obvious that the invention is in no way limited to the exemplary embodiments described above, but that numerous modifications can be made to the tags' described above, without going beyond the ambit of the invention.
