Abstract

The brake for a motor vehicle has a movable brake skid (5), retained in an inactive position and stopped by a bolt. The bolt can be remotely released to allow the brake skid to be placed in front of and below the vehicle wheel (1). The pivoting skid is suspended on telescopic levers (6) on the vehicle chassis or a non-suspended deck of the vehicle.

Description

   <EMI ID=1.1>

   <EMI ID = 1.1>

The present invention relates to an emergency braking device which can be activated in the event of damage to the conventional braking system.

Although the braking systems mounted on road vehicles hardly present any problems, it can however happen that a breakdown of said system occurs.

Particularly in the case of heavy vehicles, coaches and trucks, the consequences of damage to the braking system can be very serious.

The emergency brake, which is the subject of this patent, is simple in structure and operation and can be actuated quickly, thus replacing the contact surface of the wheels with a flat surface provided under the wheels. This device can be mounted on new or used vehicles.

The brake therefore consists of a movable part which can descend by a telescopic system below the wheel. This system is located in front of and near the axis of the vehicle wheels.

This movable part has two planar surfaces in obtuse angle. The part in contact with the ground has a rubber brake lining. This braking system results from the friction of the plate on the ground. The contact is ensured by the pressure of the vehicle wheels which press on the upper surface of the plates.

The present invention will be described in more detail below with the aid of the drawings which respectively represent:
Fig. 1: A schematic representation of the arrangement of the brake shoe in the rest position, FIG. 2: a schematic representation of the arrangement of the brake shoe in the active position, FIG. 3: a top view of the brake shoe, Fig. 4: a side view of the brake shoe, FIG. 5: a view from below of the brake shoe.

can activate the emergency braking system by actuating a command. The device (8) releases the brake shoe (5) which swings down and back. This movement can be caused only by gravity, by springs precompressed by gravity or by a hydraulic cylinder. The rear edge (18) of the horizontal plate is caught between the wheel

(1) and the ground, and the shoe (4) then moves under the tire (1) towards the rear of the vehicle and goes into position in which the plate (13) abuts against the tire (1).

The last part of the skate course is rectilinear and in order to allow this the levers (6) for suspension are telescopic.

When the skate has reached its end position, it is kept pressed on the ground by the vertical pressure of the wheel (1) and locked in a horizontal position by the support of the plate (13) against this wheel (1). The friction surface (14) acts as a brake while sliding on the ground.

It is obvious for vehicles with a single rear axle that at this time the directional stability of the vehicle can present problems. In order to avoid them as much as possible, a rectangular cutout (16) in the horizontal plate (4) allows part of the tire (1) to pass.

This is always provided with a rotary movement, following the failure of the brakes, which makes it possible to ensure longitudinal guidance of the wheel (1), while the surfaces around the cutout (16) ensure braking . The rotary movement of the wheel (1) is allowed by the mounting of three rollers (21) pivoting on the brake shoe and brought into contact with the wheel (1).

emergency braking. A wheel (1), preferably rear, of the vehicle rotates about its axis (2) and is in contact with the ground.

The vehicle is braked in particular by the action of the brakes, provided for this purpose and not shown.

In front of the wheel (1) is arranged the emergency braking system (4), composed of a movable pad (5), telescopic levers (6) for suspending said pad and a blocking system (8). The suspension levers (6) pivot around axes (9) integral either with the vehicle chassis or with the unsprung bridge.

These levers (6) are connected to the shoe (5) by joints (10). In the rest position (4) the shoe (5) is held by a locking system (8). This locking system (8) can be either mechanical and have the form of a simple mechanical lock or a hydraulic cylinder retaining the pad or moving it in the active position, or electric.

The shoe (5) is composed of two flat plates (12 and 13) connected to each other and forming an obtuse angle between them.

The horizontal plate (12) is provided with a cover on the underside

(14) anti-friction having a high coefficient of friction.

The plate (12) is extended forward and exceeds the junction line with the plate (13). This extension (15) ensures the stability of the pad during use. The plate (13) serves as a stopper and comes to rest against the wheel

(1) when put into action. For vehicles having only one rear axle, FIG. 3 represents a top view of the pad. The horizontal plate (12) has a rectangular cutout (16) intended to allow part of the vehicle tire to pass.

The operation of the braking device is controlled from the driving position of the vehicle.
