<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

. The invention relates to a closure for closing a beverage can, which has already been opened, consisting of a plate of plastic, in the form of a segment of a circular surface, which is rotatable about a point in the upper surface of the can on the central axis of this can is attached.
Beverage cans are opened by pressing a stamped lip into the upper surface with a deformable lever. This lip cannot be used to close the can again.
The shape of the opening is not round and makes the use of a normal stopper difficult. For this reason, the can must always be emptied in one go.
If this is not the case and emptying is delayed, there are several disadvantages: the can must be kept upright, dirt can enter the drink and with carbonated drinks the carbon dioxide will have escaped after a certain time.
The invention has for its object to realize a closure which can close the can again after the opening without the aforementioned disadvantages and which furthermore makes it possible to clean and keep the surface around the opening.
This object is achieved by the use of a plastic plate, which is in the form of a segment of a circular surface rotatably mounted about a central axis and which can cover and close the opening in the top surface of the can.
This plate is preferably mounted on a short central axis under the deformable lever that presses the opening. The outer edge of the plate abuts the circular edge of the top surface of the can. In a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In a particular embodiment of the invention, the plate is not mounted on the central axis but is clamped by the circular edge on the circumference of the upper surface. This board is then extended upwards and bent inwards over the closing plate. During the turning movement, the plate slides under this bent edge.
In order to demonstrate the features of the invention, a preferred embodiment of the closure for the beverage can is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings as an example without limitation. These two embodiments offer an additional advantage. Before using the can, eg during transport or storage, the plate is placed above the punched lip, which is thus protected against surrounding dirt and possible contamination. After the lip is depressed and the opening is released, a hygienic use of the can is ensured, since the area around the opening has remained clean.
Figure 1 shows a top view of the can for the opening.
Figure 2 shows a top view of the can after the opening and before the closure.
Figure 3 shows a top view of the can after the opening and after the closure of the can.
Figure 4 shows a top view of a special embodiment of the closure.
Figure 1 shows the top surface 1 of a beverage can. This upper surface 1 is circular and is bounded by a raised edge 2 which forms the connection with the cylindrical part (not shown) of the can.
A central axis 3 'is mounted in the center of this circular upper surface 1. A valve shape 4 is punched into the upper surface, which can be pressed in by the deformable lever 5 - and thus forms the opening for emptying the can.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Above the upper surface 1 a plate 6 is provided in the form of a segment of a circular surface. The center of this circular surface coincides with the center of the upper surface 1. In this plate 6 a bore is provided centrally that fits on the central axis 3. The plate 6 is rotatable about this central axis 3 and can rotate around 360.
The circumference 7 of the plate 6 abuts the raised edge 2.
The opening of the can is obtained by depressing the punched flap 4 by means of the deformable lever 5. This lever 5 is mounted above the plate 6 on the central shaft 3. After depressing the die-cut flap 4, the lever 5 is returned to its original position above the plate 6, according to Figure 2.
Now the can along the valve 4 can be emptied. If one wishes to interrupt this operation and close the can, then according to figure 3, the closing plate 6 is turned around 180 so that it comes to lie above the valve 4 and closes it.
Arranged around the valve 4 is a rib 7 which cooperates with the bottom surface of the plate 6 to obtain a good seal.
If one wishes to empty the can further, the closing plate 6 is turned back so that the opening 4 is released.
The embodiment according to figure 4 shows a closing plate 8 which is not provided with a central bore. The upright edge 9 forming the connection between the upper surface 1 and the cylindrical part of the can is extended upwards and bent.
This edge 9 thereby forms a guide for the plate 8 during the turning movement. As can be seen from the figures, the closing plate 8 of this second embodiment has a larger circle circumference than in the first embodiment.
The angle between the two radial edges 10-11 of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in the second embodiment, the sealing plate must be noticeably smaller than 180 in order to ensure proper conduction of the plate 8 through the edge 9. The closing plate 6 - 8 is preferably made of a plastic material that has a softer bottom that comes into contact with the top surface 1.
