<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
A detergent composition for personal hygiene with a high content of vitamin E or derivatives thereof.
EMI1.1
Technical area.
This invention generally relates to a detergent composition.
In particular, this invention relates to a detergent composition for the hair and scalp skin or skin, with a high content of vitamin E or derivatives thereof, in particular vitamin E acetate.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
As is known, vitamin E and its derivatives are substances which, due to their supposed properties as antioxidants and free radical removers, are extensively used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries in the preparation of formulations for treating skin disorders or for combating or preventing hideous states of the skin.
For these reasons, vitamin E and its derivatives are often present as "active components" in cosmetic formulations in varying concentrations ranging from 1% to 25%, although the antioxidant effect of vitamin E at skin level has never been scientifically demonstrated.
It is a fact that some shampoos are on the market that contain vitamin E as an "active principle", therefore in very low quantities that are usually less than 1% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.
It is furthermore known that detergents for personal use, even the most delicate ones, always cause a more or less pronounced removal of the natural lipid film present on the skin, resulting in a more or less pronounced dryness
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the skin itself and the loss of the barrier function of the skin. This in turn promotes the onset of irritation or allergic dermatitis.
In the case of shampoos, detergents cause an impoverishment of the lipid film of the scalp, and in some cases promote the development of dry dandruff and an aging of the external cortex of the hair shaft, which can cause secondary structural aging in the hair itself.
Summary of the invention
The problem underlying the invention was to provide a skin or hair detergent composition capable of preventing the above-described inconveniences with respect to the detergent compositions of the prior art.
According to the invention, this problem is solved by a personal hygiene detergent composition containing 2 to 97% by weight of at least one surfactant, and 3 to 25% of a component selected from vitamin E and esters thereof.
This detergent composition can be in the form of an aqueous dispersion or a soap. If it is in the form of an aqueous dispersion, it contains 2 to 50% of surfactant and 5 to 25% of vitamin E or esters thereof in an aqueous carrier.
The esters of vitamin E are preferably selected from the group comprising vitamin E acetate, linoleate and other esters of α-tocopherol (the pure enantiomers d and I as well as their racemic mixture or any mixture of enantiomers can be used) with unsaturated fatty acids.
Preferably, the aforementioned component is vitamin E acetate.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
If the detergent composition of this invention is in the form of a shampoo, the content of the above-mentioned component preferably ranges from 5 to 15%, preferably from 6 to 10%. The content of surfactants preferably ranges from 10 to 25%.
The composition according to the invention in the form of a shampoo can contain surfactants such as, for example, zinc pyrithione, pirocoton olamine, undecylenic acid and salicylic acid.
If the detergent composition of this invention is a face or body skin detergent, the content of said component preferably ranges from 10 to 25%, advantageously from 15 to 22%. The content of surfactants preferably ranges from 7 to 20%.
Said detergent may be a cleansing milk to be applied as it is to the face and skin around the eyes, followed by cleansing with water, or a liquid body detergent or a liquid detergent to be used together with water to clean face and body in general.
The surfactants of the composition of this invention include anionic, cationic, nonionic and amphoteric (such as, e.g., Betaines) surfactants.
When the composition of this invention is in the form of a soap, it contains the component selected from vitamin E and esters thereof in an amount of 3 to 10 percent by weight relative to the total weight of the soap.
Such a soap is obtained by saponifying vegetable oils and preferably contains vitamin E acetate.
The preferred amount of vitamin E acetate varies between 4 and 6%.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The vegetable oils are preferably selected from coconut oil, palm oil and olive oil.
It has been shown that after applying the detergent composition of this invention to the skin or hair and after cleaning the latter, a vitamin E film or one of its derivatives remains on the skin, scalp or hair.
In other words, vitamin E and its ester derivatives, in particular vitamin E acetate, have a greater resistance to the cleaning action of detergents compared to the lipids of the normal skin film.
The film that they form on the skin and hair exerts an important barrier function against all external causes that in some way irritate the skin and scalp.
In addition, said film also has a remarkably moisturizing effect on the skin, while providing the hair with great softness, making it easy to comb and increasing its volume, and keeping it clean and shiny for a long time.
This effect allows for the frequency of the washes, which furthermore reduces possible irritations of the scalp.
When active principles, such as anti-rose agents in the case of a shampoo, are added to the composition, their effect is somewhat promoted.
In fact, since vitamin E acetate and its derivatives are not foreign molecules to the human body, they can easily integrate into the lipids present in the horny layer, thus facilitating skin absorption of the substances dispersed in the composition.

EXAMPLE 7.
Soap of the Marseille type.
A Marseille type soap was prepared by saponifying a mixture of coconut oil and palm oil (weight ratio 1: 1) with sodium hydroxide according to conventional techniques. Once the saponification step was completed, the following usual steps of washing and adding aqueous NaCl solutions with heating were performed. Before pouring the final hot and liquid soap into the cooling molds, topopheryl acetate was added to it when the temperature was around 40 ° C, in an amount of 5% by weight of the total weight of the soap.
