<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
daarmee onvoldoende coaxiaal blijft.
Fig. 1 toont een dwarsdoorsnede van een buiseinde.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

METHOD FOR LINKING TWO METALS
TUBE ENDS AND ANY LINK
OF TWO METAL PIPE ENDS
The invention first of all relates to a method for coupling two metal pipe ends with equal outer and inner diameters, wherein a continuous outer surface with constant outer diameter is obtained at the location of the coupling.
A welding process is often used to connect pipes to each other.
This usually involves an uncoated pipe. When welding pipes coated with, for example, plastic, the plastic protective layer will be damaged, which must then be repaired.
The welding of pipes requires a fairly high level of professional knowledge from installation staff, while the welding of coated pipes involves complications.
For coupling pipe ends, socket connections are also used, which, however, are only applicable if no requirements are set for the outside diameter remaining constant. Incidentally, such a requirement also causes problems when welding pipe ends, because in many cases the welding bead then has to be reworked again in order to obtain a smooth continuous pipe surface.
The use of a socket connection with plastic-coated pipes also causes separate problems.
In various applications of pipe couplings, it is a requirement that the outer surface remains continuous. An example of this is the use of pipes in greenhouse horticulture. In addition, many pipes are used as heating pipes, but also, whether or not in combination, with an application as part of a rail transport system. In many cases the same tube is used both as a heating tube and as a rail on which a trolley can be used that is used for the transport of cultivated products, aids or harvested products. However, many other applications of coupled pipes are conceivable where it is a requirement that the outer surface of the coupling does not protrude beyond the outer surface of the pipes.
The invention provides a solution for this task. The invention now consists in that in the method according to the preamble in the wall of each of the pipe ends,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
preferably at a distance of one to three times the outside diameter from the pipe end edge, at least one local small indentation is provided from the outside, which subsequently a pipe piece with an outside diameter that is little smaller than the inside diameter of the pipe ends, but is larger than free passage of the pipe ends at the location of the indentation (s), and a length that is little less than twice the said distance, is provided on the outside with an adhesive adhering to the inner surface of the pipe ends and then slid into the two pipe ends ,
after which these pipe ends are temporarily pressed against each other under circumstances where the glue hardens sufficiently. It can be noted that metal bonding is a well-known technique in which curing can take place with the aid of a catalyst or by cooling a molten thermoplastic. Thanks to the indentations, a pipe piece covered with glue is obtained when it is inserted into a pipe end against a boundary. If the other end of the pipe section, after being provided with glue, is then pushed into the other pipe end, this prevents the pipe section from sliding into the first pipe end, as a result of which no connection is established with the second pipe end.
Because the pipe section has a slightly smaller outside diameter than the inside diameter of the pipe ends, a narrow gap remains between the pipe section and the pipe ends, which gap is filled with the glue. After the glue has hardened, it then not only ensures a coupling of the pipe ends, but also a seal of the interior of the pipe ends to the outside. The result of this new coupling method is that the outer surface of the pipe ends is continuous. If any glue is still pressed out, it can still be wiped off in the liquid state. Thanks to this new method, it is now also possible to connect pipe ends to each other which form part of metallic and / or plastic-coated metal pipes. This is because the coupling does not affect the outer surface of the pipe ends.
It has been found that the new method produces a coupling which is suitable to form part of a pipe system which is suitable as liquid-flowed heating pipes. But also because of the continuous
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
outer surface, the tube ends thus connected can also form part of tubes which in turn form part of a rail transport system.
If the pipe system is used as a heating system, it is preferred according to the invention to use an adhesive which is resistant to the action of water to a temperature of up to about 95 C. comprising a two-component adhesive based on a polyamin / epoxy resin.
It has further been found that the difference V in mm between the inner diameter of the pipe ends and the outer diameter of the pipe section should preferably satisfy 0.1 <V <1.3 mm, with V preferably satisfying V = (0.1 à 1.) 10-6 xu, where you represent the viscosity of the glue in mPa at the time the pipe piece and pipe ends slide together.
It is noted here that the diameters are determined at the location where there is no weld seam in the tube.
It has already been noted that it is advantageous to provide at least one indentation in each of the pipe ends. More in particular, it has been found to be advantageous to provide four indentations per tube end, equally distributed over the circumference and in the same cross-section.
More in particular, it is recommended that the indentations be provided with a spherical punch, the radius r of the sphere being related to the outer diameter D as 1: 8 # r: D # 1: 9
The depth of the indentations must be sufficient to prevent the pipe piece from sliding in further. However, since the indentations can be seen as damage to the outer surface, they should be seen as small as possible.
It has been found optimally that the indentions protrude from the inner surface of the pipe ends over a depth d which is related to the outer diameter as 1; 45 # d: D # 1:25.
The location of the indentations should not be too close to the edge of the pipe ends, since then the pipe piece cannot be sufficiently inserted into the pipe ends and
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
remains insufficiently coaxial. On the other hand, it must also be avoided that the pipe sections have to be inserted unnecessarily deep into the pipe ends.
It has been found that it is advisable to arrange the indentations at a distance of 11/2 to 21/2 times the outer diameter of the pipe end edge and that the pipe section has a length of between 1.75 and 1.95 times this distance. It has then been found that the pipe section still has sufficient space between the indentations in the two pipe ends, so that the edges of the pipe ends can come into good contact with each other.
It has already been noted that it is possible that some glue can be pressed outwards between the edges of the pipe ends. Certainly if these edges are not purely flat and / or purely transversely to the axis of the pipe ends, the glue can fill in the gaps that are formed. In addition, according to the invention, it has proved to be desirable that the glue also adhere to the plastic coating, in order to guarantee that the plastic coating also has a continuous undamaged surface.
If the tubes are used as heating tubes, it is important that unnecessary resistances occur in the fluid circuit. Under circumstances, it may then be desirable to chamfer the pipe section near the ends on the inside, in order to avoid unnecessary restrictions in the liquid flow.
In addition to the method described, the invention also relates to a coupling of two metal pipe ends with the same outer and inner diameters, wherein a pipe piece fitting with some space is glued in the two pipe ends and wherein the ends of this pipe piece are inserted into the wall of each of the pipe ends, at least one local indentation is present from the outside.
The invention will subsequently be elucidated with reference to a few figures.
FIG. 1 shows a cross-section of a pipe end.
FIG. 2 is a longitudinal section of a coupling according to the invention.
In FIG. 1, reference numeral (1) indicates a pipe end, reference numeral (2) representing a steel surface of the pipe end and (3) a plastic covering thereof. An indentation (4) is schematically indicated, which is caused by driving a punch (5) with a spherical head with radius r into the lateral surface.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In FIG. 2 denotes (1a) and (1b) two tube ends which must be coupled in line with each other. Four indentations (4) are provided in pipe end (1b) (two of which are shown) and indentations (8) are also arranged in pipe end (1a).
Pipe section (6) serves for coupling the pipe ends (1a) and (1b), for which purpose this pipe section is first smeared with glue on the outside, and is then inserted into one of the pipe ends until it abuts the indentations. The other end of the pipe section is then inserted into the other pipe end until the pipe ends (1a) and (1b) abut each other. They are held in this position until the adhesive layer has hardened. As a result, a layer of glue (9) forms between the pipe section (6) and the pipe ends (1a) and (1b), which layer may possibly also penetrate between the end edges of the pipe ends (1a) and (1b).
If there is a flow requirement, the pipe section (6) can be chamfered at its ends according to (7).
