EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Method and device for hatching eggs in a confined, closed and controlled environment such as an incubator.
The invention includes both the incubator and the hatcher. These two types of incubator together determine the entire incubator and are further described in the text under the general name incubator.

One (or more) gas sensor (s): carbon dioxide (C021 and / or oxygen dz e. Temperature reading. F. Humidity reading. G. CO2 and / or O2 reading. H. A central control unit (controller) that controls the signals b, c and d record, process and if necessary control i, j and k I. Heating source and cooling unit to maintain incubation temperature j. Humidification system to maintain relative humidity.
EMI1.1
k. System that can control the amount of fresh air (rich in O2) and the amount of air used (rich in CO at the controller's command).
This system is generally described as ventilation in the hatchery world.
Incubators naturally contain many other components, but these have less or no importance in the context of this invention.
During an incubation cycle, the eggs are confined in the confined, closed and controlled environment of an incubator. The composition, condition and treatment of the air around those eggs throughout the breeding cycle will strongly determine the quality and quantity of the day-old chicks at the end of the cycle.
Of course, there are many other factors that determine the quality and quantity of the day-old chicks, but these are of little or no importance in the context of this invention.
In a modern incubator, mainly in the endothermic phase of the incubation process, heat is added mainly by means of electrical resistors or a hot water heat exchanger. The cooling, mainly in the exothermic phase of the incubation process, is mainly done by means of a cold water heat exchanger or a cooling fan. The humidification (j) is mainly done by means of surface evaporation or by atomization.
The ventilation (k), which ensures the supply of fresh air rich in 0 and the discharge of the used air rich in CO, is done by regulating one (or more) ventilation opening (s) in carefully chosen places in the walls of the incubator.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In modern incubators, the ventilation is regulated according to an incubation program, the set points of which are pre-programmed before the incubation cycle starts, in relation to the time course of the incubation cycle. This incubation program is usually provided by the incubator manufacturer. In some cases, the ventilation is also used as a cooling system: without taking into account the CO2 and O2 concentrations in the incubator, fresh air is introduced into the incubator to maintain the incubation temperature.
When activating (starting) an incubator, the ventilation is closed to quickly reach the set temperature. From the activation of the incubator, a built-in clock counts the elapsed incubation time. Depending on the breeding program, the set points for temperature, moisture and ventilation will be changed automatically at predetermined times. Of course you can also change manual set points.
The invention relates to a method and device which independently, independently of the time course of the incubation cycle, controls the ventilation interactively.
By using a CO2 and / or an O2 sensor, interactions with the products of the metabolism of the developing animal are regulated, and this, in the context of this invention, in particular with regard to ventilation. As a result, the breeding climate inside the incubator can be adapted to the requirements of the developing animal interactively and more accurately than before. The improved and interactive control of the incubation climate is situated (during the incubation cycle) before, during and after picking out the egg shell. The interactive control of the ventilation has a clear positive influence on the quality and quantity of the day-old chicks compared to the current control with fixed set points and also consumes less energy than the current control.
A very important phase in the development of the egg is the moment when the already developed animal punctures the (internal) air chamber, starts lung breathing, then punctures the egg shell, then pecks around and finally separates it from the remains of the egg shell.
It is generally known that the moment of snapping the air chamber cannot be determined in advance. A 24-hour time zone as shown in Figure 2 is put forward by most scientists.
During the phase of starting lung breathing and, about nine hours later, during the piercing of the egg shell, but also during the pecking of the egg shell, it is necessary to have a high CO in the incubator. maintain concentration. This high COo concentration is necessary for the stimulation of the chick during the chickens. Low CO concentrations, on the other hand, prevent many chicks from pecking and as a result they die in the egg shell.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This very critical period has been amply described by scientists all over the world.
A large number of factors such as: number of eggs in the incubator, size and weight of the eggs, number of fertilized eggs, porosity of the egg shell, variety, storage time and storage conditions before loading in the incubator, ... have a very important influence on the composition of the air inside the incubator. But also the local conditions in which the incubator runs, such as: local temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration, ... have an important influence.
Taking into account this large number of variable parameters, it is therefore impossible that with a (contemporary) incubation program, with regard to the composition of the incubation air based on set points at fixed times depending on the course of the incubation cycle, the most suitable composition, condition and can guarantee treatment of the air desired during any stage in the development of the animal.
On the one hand, before snapping on, one can realize considerable energy savings by interactively controlling the composition of the incubating air. This lies in the fact that one should not ventilate preventively. The energy gain is then obtained from the fact that one avoids having to treat that "preventively" ventilated air in order to keep the climate optimal (below this one can understand heating and / or humidifying ).
On the other hand, the interactive control on the composition of the breeding air, during and after hatching, has a clearly positive influence on the quality and quantity of the day-old chicks. This advantage is illustrated by means of figure 2.
Figure 2.
A-B: The time zone in which the scaling and the start of lung breathing can take place.
C: The CO; concentration is automatically brought to the ideal, freely adjustable level and maintained at that level. This is done by interactively controlling the ventilation device. The air condition is ready for hitting the eggs.
D: The controller detects a rising edge via the moisture sensor. The moisture rises above its set value. The snapping has started, a large amount of fluid escapes from the pecked eggs.
E: Via the moisture sensor, the controller registers the peak of the kipping, the moisture does not rise any further.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
F: The controller registers a falling edge via the moisture sensor. The great multiple hero of the chicks has hatched. This is a very critical moment. The early chicks can no longer tolerate the high CO2 concentration without risk and the slightly later pickers still need CO2 as an incentive to continue pecking the egg shell. Upon detection of point F via the ventilation device, the controller will automatically lower the CO2 concentration slightly. The degree of descent is freely adjustable G: All chicks have been picked and a high CO2 concentration is no longer desirable. The ventilation device is further regulated to a lower CO2 concentration and this is further maintained. This value is also freely adjustable.
H: If the day-old chicks have to stay longer in the incubator, the CO2 concentration can be adjusted at this point. This value is also freely adjustable.
