<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Method for sticking a plastic film on a part of a building and using contact adhesive.
The present invention relates to a method of sticking a plastic film on a part of a building, such as a flat roof, to make this part of the building waterproof.
It is known in such methods to make use of contact adhesive which is applied to both the roof surface and the plastic foil, after which this foil is applied in contact with the glued-in roof surface.
The contact adhesive used in these known processes is dissolved in a slow evaporating solvent based on solids and therefore needs to be spread using a brush or comb which is very time consuming.
The object of the invention is to eliminate this drawback and any other drawbacks and to provide a rapid method.
To this end, the method for sticking a plastic film on a part of a building structure according to the present invention mainly consists of applying contact adhesive and contacting this plastic film and this part of the building structure, wherein a contact adhesive based on a solid dissolved in a fast evaporating solvent is used.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the contact adhesive is applied by means of a gun.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention also relates to the contact adhesive apparently intended for use in the method according to one of the preceding embodiments.
With the insight to better demonstrate the characteristics of the invention, a preferred embodiment of a method according to the invention and of a contact adhesive used therewith is described below, by way of example without any limiting character.
According to the invention, a plastic film is adhered to a roof by applying contact adhesive with the aid of a gun on the plastic film and on the other hand on the roof.
The plastic film used can be an elastomer, such as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), or a plastomer, such as PVC (polyvinyl chloride), chlorinated PE (polyethylene) or PIB (polyisobutylene).
This plastic film can be reinforced, for example reinforced with glass fiber, or it can have a layer of non-woven material on its underside, such as a layer of polyester.
EMI2.1
Such a polyester underlay is, for example, 1 to 0.1 mm thick and has a mass of approximately 200 g per. A non-woven underlay gives an extra strength to the plastic film and absorbs any unevenness in the roof.
The adhesive with which this plastic foil is adhered to the roof in the method according to the invention is a contact adhesive based on a solid dissolved in a rapidly evaporating solvent.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The contact adhesive exists for 20 to 65 wt. % from this solvent which may be, for example, hexane, cyclohexane, butanone or ethyl acetate or a mixture of two or more of these substances. The remainder (35 to 80% by weight) of the contact adhesive consists of the solid, namely rubber particles and the synthetic resins traditionally used in contact adhesive, such as styrene-butadiene styrene (SBS).
The dynamic viscosity of the contact adhesive is between 1000 and 4500 mPa. s and the density at 20 C between 0.79 and 1.2.
The composition of the contact adhesive can vary depending on the application. For example, there is a composition that is specific for gluing on bitumen, concrete, stone and wood and a variant for gluing on aluminum and galvanized metals.
The contact adhesive is sprayed with a gun, for example of the type AIRLESS or AIRMIX, on a part of the roof and on the part of the roll of plastic film that has already been unrolled. Then the plastic film is placed with the glued side on the contact adhesive on the roof and pressed, after which the roll is further unrolled and as unrolled both the unrolled part of the plastic film and the part of the roof to be covered by said part of the plastic film glued further using the gun.
Naturally, this contact adhesive can also be applied in the classic manner with the aid of a brush or the like.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The plastic film can be applied directly on the roof, for example on concrete or wood, in the manner described above, or on a previously applied layer of, for example, bitumen.
According to the invention, plastic films can of course also be adhered to parts of a building other than a roof.
It is clear that the invention is by no means limited to the exemplary embodiment, but such a method and contact adhesive can be realized in different variants without departing from the scope of the invention.
