<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Coding system for sending transport trolleys to their destination in an in-floor chain transport system. The invention relates to an encoding system for sending transport trolleys to their destination in an in-floor chain transport system in which transport trolleys are moved by means of chains incorporated in metal chain rails in the floor, the coding system comprising transponders mounted on the transport trolleys which can emit a code and, in at least one location along the in-floor conveyor for the transport vehicles, contains code reading means having a coil mounted in the floor.
The code reading means are arranged, for example, for a split of the in-floor chain conveyor and are connected to a control device which determines the path to be followed by the transport wagons and, for example, controls the position of a switch on the split.
Such coding systems are used to replace mechanical systems containing height-adjustable magnetic pins mounted on the transport vehicles. Sensors located in the floor can detect the position of these magnetic pins. The destination can then be derived from this position. However, the number of codes is limited and the construction is expensive and bulky.
In known coding systems of the kind referred to here, the code reading means are formed by a coil incorporated in the floor. The transponder works electro-magnetic with a frequency of 100 kHz or more. Due to the presence of a large mass of metal in the transport trolley, the transponder can only work over a short distance and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
coil must be located directly under the transponder during identification of the code. This makes the application in in-floor chain transport systems difficult.
Because the coil is located to the right or left of the chain rail, the transponder must also be mounted on the transport trolley on the right or left. This should take into account "tracking" of the car, for example in or after a bend.
The object of the invention is to overcome these drawbacks and to provide an encoding system for sending transport trolleys to its destination in an in-floor chain transport system, with which the destination code of a transport trolley can be set in a simple manner, the code of the transponders clearly indicated by the code reading can be read and no problems are encountered from tracking issues.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the code reading means, at the aforementioned location along the in-floor chain conveyor, comprise two coils that are phase-switched, including one on each side of the chain rail, the metal chain rail acting as a flux guide, while the transponders of the inductive type with adjustable code and at least one transmit and receive part thereof is mounted above the chain rail.
The combination of two coils and the chain rail as a flux guide increases the field strength in the area above the chain rail. This and the inductive transponders make it possible to mount the transponder centrally in relation to the width of the transport trolley.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The transponders expediently have an operating frequency of less than 100 kHz.
Preferably, the transponder on a transport trolley comprises an adjustment section with buttons and the code of this transponder is adjustable by means of these buttons.
The buttons for setting the code allow a setting without additional tools and a visual recognition of the code and thus of the destination. In the aforementioned known coding systems, the transponders used often have a fixed code, which means that the coil in fact identifies the transport trolley and the destination must be indirectly traced via a control device. Electronically codable transponders are known with which a code corresponding to the destination could possibly be transmitted, but changing the code requires the use of a special programming device. In both cases, the destination of the transporter is not visually visible to the users.
In a special embodiment of the invention, the coils are mounted in a tray of flux-conducting metal, which is incorporated in the floor.
The metal box increases the signal strength above the chain rail.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features of the invention, an exemplary embodiment of an encoding system for sending trolleys in an in-floor conveyor system to their destination is described below, by way of example without any limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
figure 1 schematically represents a top view of an encoding system according to the invention; figure 2 represents a section according to line II-II in figure 1; figure 3 represents the part indicated by F3 in figure 2 in detail.
The coding system according to the invention, as shown in figures 1 and 2, mainly consists of an inductive transponder 1 on each transport trolley 2 and of code reading means 3 cooperating therewith, which in one or more places along the floor chain conveyor 4 for the transport trolleys in the floor 5 are mounted.
The floor chain track 4 is formed in the usual way by channel-shaped chain rails 6 of flux-conducting metal such as steel, which are recessed in the floor 5 and in which driven chains 7 are arranged. A number of links of the chains 7 are carrier links. The transport trolleys 2 have a pin 8 at the front which extends into a chain rail 6 and is gripped by a drive link through the pin 8, the transport trolley 2 is carried by the chain 7. The floor chain conveyor 4 contains splits so that it reaches different destinations. A switch 9 is mounted on each junction, which position can be changed by a control device 10 depending on the destination that an arriving transport car 2 must reach and which is set with the transponder 1.
This transponder 1 has a transmit and receive section 11 which is connected by a cable 12 to an adjustment section 13 provided with buttons 14.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The transmit and receive section 11 is mounted at the bottom of the front of the transport trolley, just behind the front wheels 20, at two to twenty centimeters from the floor 5. This transmit and receive section 11 contains an electronic circuit mounted on a printed circuit board. incorporated in a disc-shaped plastic housing.
The operating frequency of the transponder 1 is less than 100 kHz and preferably less than 60 kHz, and is, for example, 50 kHz. As soon as the transmit and receive portion 11 receives a signal from the code reading means 3, it in turn transmits a signal, namely a code in digital pulse width modulation.
This code is determined by the setting section 13 and is adjustable by means of the buttons 14. Preferably, the buttons are rotary buttons. They occur at the front of a cabinet in which the adjustment section 13 is located, so that the position of the knobs 14 is clearly visible to the user. Using this mode, the set code can be visually recognized remotely. A code is determined by the position of all buttons 14 together, so that the number of possible code combinations is determined by the number of possible positions per button and the number of buttons. With two buttons 14 and six positions, 36 different codes corresponding to 36 destinations are possible.
The code reading means 3 are formed by two plastic plates 15, each containing a coil 16. The coils 16 are connected by means of a cable 17 to the necessary electronics 18 in order to be able to transmit said signal to the transponders 1 and to receive the response signals or codes of the transponders 1 via the control devices 10 or a central control which is
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
these control devices 10 are connected. The two coils 16 are phase-switched.
In order to enhance the magnetic field strength above the chain rail 6, the plastic plates 15 are not mounted directly in the floor 5, but form a lid of a metal tray 19 incorporated in the floor, as shown in detail in figure 3.
The coding system works as follows.
With the aid of the buttons 14, the user sets the code for each transport trolley 2 corresponding to a specific destination. When the transport trolley 2 approaches a switch 9, it comes in the vicinity of code reading means 3 which continuously or intermittently send a signal. When the transport trolley 2 is close enough, the transmit and receive part 11 of the mounted transponder 1 receives a signal from the coils 16, so that this transmit and receive part 11 in response will inductively set the code set in the form of a modulated signal. to broadcast. This code is read by the code reading means 3 at a speed of, for example, 70 ms per code and is sent to the control device 10, which may or may not change position 9.
The same occurs for every subsequent switch 9 so that the transport trolley 2 is automatically guided to its destination.
It is through the choice of the low operating frequency of the transponder 1 and the use of two phase-switched coils 16 in the floor 5 that it is possible to place the transmit and receive part centrally behind the wheels 20, so that the coding system does not hinder experiences
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
of tracking issues. The combination of two coils 16 with the flux-conducting metal chain rail 6 results in a high field strength above the chain rail 6, which increases even further because the coils 16 are mounted in a flux-conducting metal box 19.
The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiment described above and shown in the figures, but such encoding system can be realized in different variants without departing from the scope of the invention as determined by the claims.
