<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Shellfish keeping apparatus.
This invention relates to a crustacean keeping device, also known as a lobster tray.
More specifically, it relates to a device provided with an aquarium, which is intended to be placed in restaurants and the like, in order to keep lobsters, crabs, oysters and the like alive.
It is known that such crustaceans are kept in water at about 7 ° C and that the aquariums used for this purpose must therefore be cooled. A problem with such aquariums is therefore that condensate easily forms on the outer walls, with the drawbacks that the walls are no longer transparent and that the environment is humidified by condensate running down the walls.
In order to overcome this problem, it is known to build aquariums from double-walled glass. The disadvantage of such aquariums, however, is the high cost.
The present invention therefore contemplates an apparatus for keeping shellfish in which another, very efficient solution to the above problem is provided.
To this end, the invention relates to a device for keeping shellfish, consisting of an aquarium tank and cooling means for cooling the water in the aquarium tank, characterized in that it is provided with means for a warm air flow along at least one wall of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
aquarium tank. It is clear that the warm airflow prevents condensation from forming.
According to a special embodiment, the aforementioned means comprise their own heat source. Preferably, the heat-emitting element of the cooling means is used for this purpose to cool the water in the aquarium tank, in other words the condenser of the cooling device, so that the energy supplied to the device is optimally utilized.
In the most preferred embodiment, the means exist to conduct a warm air flow along the wall of the aquarium tank in the combination of a heat source, which is formed from the heat-emitting element of the cooling means; a supplementary heat source; and a control element for controlling the aforementioned heat sources.
Preferably, the control element provides for the supplementary heat source to be switched on during the periods that the coolants are switched off.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features of the invention, a preferred embodiment is described below without any limiting character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: figure 1 shows an aquarium according to the invention; figure 2 represents a section according to line II-II in figure 1.
As shown in the figures, the invention relates to a device 1 for keeping and storing crustaceans, consisting of an aquarium tank 2 and cooling means 3 for cooling the water 4 in the aquarium tank 2. The special feature of the invention is that
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the device 1 is provided with means 5 for conveying a warm air flow F along at least one wall 6, and preferably along the outside of all walls 6, of the aquarium tank 2, which means an air flow whose temperature is higher than that of the chilled water 4, and better still higher than room temperature.
In the most preferred embodiment, the means 5 exist to convey a warm air flow F along a wall 6 of the aquarium tank 2 in the combination of a heat source 7, which is formed from the heat output.
EMI3.1
element of the cooling means 3 a supplementary heat source 8i and a control element 9 for controlling the aforementioned heat sources 7 and 8. Preferably, the control element 9 provides that the supplementary heat source 8 is switched on during the periods that the cooling means 3 are switched off and / or the heat source 7 is insufficient.
The supplementary heat source 8 is preferably formed from an electric heating element, which for example consists of a number of resistance wires 10.
The aforementioned means 5 are preferably also provided with guides 11 for optimally guiding the warm air flow F along the wall 6. Both the heat sources 7 and 8, the coolants 3, and the guides 11 are located under the aquarium tank 2.
On the one hand, these guides 11 consist of a box 12 which is situated around the cooling means 3, with one or more outlet openings 13, and channels 14 which lead the warm air to the bottom edge of the aquarium tank 2. In the example shown, the channels 14 are arranged in the support, respectively the table 15, on which the aquarium tank 2
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
will be placed. The table 15 consists for this purpose of a bottom plate 16 with upright ribs 17 on which the aquarium tank 2 can be placed, such that the warm air flow is forced to first move horizontally under the bottom 18 of the aquarium tank 2 and then ascend along the walls 6 . It is clear that one or more suitable opening 19 is provided on the periphery, such that the air is forced to move along the wall 6.
Because the channels 14 are bounded by vertical partitions 20, the air flow is forced to leave these channels 14 in the vertical direction.
The openings 19 are preferably very narrow and preferably extend along the entire circumference. The aquarium tank 2 is loose on the ribs 17.
Preferably, the outlet opening 13 is centrally located in the table 15 and the guides 11 are designed such that the warm air is optimally distributed along the walls 6 where an air flow is to be provided. As shown in Figure 2, the ribs 17 are arranged star-shaped around the outlet opening 13 for this purpose.
The resistance wires 10 extend along the circumference of the aquarium tank 2, more particularly along the circumference of the table 15.
It is clear that, if the heat sources 7 and 8 are located under the aquarium tank 2, the warm air generated by these heat sources automatically rises along the walls 6 due to a natural flow, but it is also clear that the air flow can be forced. In the example shown in the figures, the means for conducting a warm air flow along the wall 6 of the aquarium tank 2 therefore comprise a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
element that provides such a forced air flow, such as a fan 21, which is driven, for example, by an electric motor 22.
The operation can be easily deduced from the figures and the preceding description. The cooling means 3 ensure that the water 4 is cooled, via a circuit 23 as known, which is only partially shown. It is clear that the heat extracted from the water 4 is returned to the cooling means 3, and more specifically to the heat source 7. This causes the air in the cabinet 12 to heat up. This warm air is forced through the guides 11 by the fan 21 and eventually rises along the walls 6 of the aquarium tank 2, thereby avoiding the formation of condensate on these walls. The supplementary heat source 8 is switched off here.
When the water 4 is at the set temperature, the control element 9 receives a signal 24, for example from a thermostat 25, by which it is activated, which in turn switches off the cooling means 3 and possibly also the fan 21, and the supplementary heat source 8 endorsed. The supplementary heat source 8 then maintains the warm air flow F during the moments that the cooling means 3 are not operating.
When the coolants 3 return to operation, the supplementary heat source 8 is switched off again.
It is clear that the use of the heat-emitting element of the cooling means 3 as a heat source is particularly advantageous, but this does not mean that use must necessarily be made of this.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
According to a variant, use can also be made exclusively of other heat sources.
The present invention is by no means limited to the exemplary embodiment shown in the figures, but such crustacean keeping apparatus can be realized in various shapes and sizes without departing from the scope of the invention.
