<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Packaging and presentation assembly for surgical implant-free material"
This invention relates to a packaging and display assembly for surgical implant material consisting essentially of titanium screws, connectors and platelets or a technically equivalent material from a surgical point of view.
In various domains of orthopedics, osteosynthesis (bone handles) uses small connecting parts that are screwed into thin bones (hands, phalanges, facial bones).
To meet the very high demands placed on the material, titanium is preferably used.
Titanium has very curious properties. It is particularly well biocompatible; it resists corrosion; it is not toxic in the biological environment of the human body and it is sufficiently strong yet easily deformable.
A condition is, however. keep the implant material implantologically clean and not to contaminate it with organic and / or inorganic substances.
Under these conditions, it is therefore an absolute requirement that the parts and screws made from this material reach their intended destination in the operative area without problems and without any organic or inorganic contamination, so that the screws can be neatly inserted into the bones with the appropriate equipment. screwed on.
The introduced titanium is believed to be left in place in the patient's body for life. It goes without saying that the aim should be that the implant material is uncontaminated, both organically
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
if introduced inorganic on the spot.
The intention is therefore that the titanium screws and plates and connecting elements are presented by the manufacturer in such a way that they appear implantologically intact on the operating table. By this is meant that the trajectory producer-hospital-sterilization-arranges in screw plate rack - operating table - patient implantology pure. The term "trajectory" should also take into account the term "time" since several weeks, months may pass between production and consumption, possibly with various manipulations in the meantime, such as inspection, sterilization, opening of the box in which these parts are stored, rearranging of the screws etc.
It has already been proposed to make the screws in teflon "racks" available to the surgeon in order to meet these requirements. With screws arranged in this way, it is not yet certain that the screws, the heads of which are mounted by specially designed screwdrivers, cover their path correctly and reach the teflon racks without contamination. By this is once again meant that the titanium screws from the place where they are stored to the place where they have to be fixed in the bones must not be soiled, neither organically nor inorganically.
The object of the invention is thus to remedy the above-described drawbacks and to prescribe a packaging and presentation assembly for implantological material, such as to prescribe titanium screws, connecting elements and plates that integrally meet all needs in this respect, taking into account that the individual packaging of screws , pictures and the like is not feasible. In some procedures, 20 to 25 parts are commonly used.
In order to solve the above-mentioned problems according to the invention, the assembly according to the invention consists of a carrier plate with lid, made of titanium or a technically equivalent material with a series of bores in which a mini cassette for making a surgeon available.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
implantological material can be printed.
In a preferred embodiment, the above-mentioned mini cassettes consist of a foot portion with which they can be mounted in the above-mentioned bores in the above-mentioned support plate and removed therefrom after rotation.
In accordance with the invention, the aforementioned mini cassettes have a head protruding above the above-mentioned carrier plate in the position of use, with a number of calibrated holes into which the above-mentioned screws can be slid.
The mini cassette also has a universal transparent seal or lid in a transparent inert and sterilizable material (polysulfone). This lid can be removed very easily from any individual mini cassette or replaced by a well-designed cutting system. The advantage is clear: only the mini cassette to be used must be opened so that all other mini cassettes remain untouched.
A limited amount of screw or plate material is presented per mini cassette (8 screws - 6 plates). The length of the screws is also clearly indicated on the mini cassette. This prevents confusion and means ease of use. After use, the lid is placed on the mini cassette again. Once the screw-plate material of the mini cassette has been used up, the mini cassette is removed and discarded. A new mini cassette is then placed on the titray. For both plate and screw use, the mini cassettes are universal in shape, disposable and can be sterilized repeatedly.
Other details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a packaging and presentation assembly for surgical implant material, according to the invention. This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the attached figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective representation of a packaging and display assembly according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows, on a larger scale,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a sterilizable mini cassette with a cover with screws collected and a part of a titanium screwdriver.
Figures 3 and 4 show mini cassettes for collecting implantological material with specific features.
The packaging and presentation assembly represented by these figures essentially consists of a support plate 1. This support plate is extended by edges 2 so that the whole fits into a substantially uniform box. The carrier plate 1 consists of titanium or a surgical equivalent material with which the implantological material may come into contact without the intended contacts being considered as detrimental to the continued existence of this implantological material in the body.
A number of bores 3 are provided in this titanium support plate 1 for receiving mini cassettes 4. The mini cassettes can be of several types and are manufactured from a neutral material, such as "teflon", "delrin" or polysulfone. The mini cassettes 4 have a number of calibrated holes 5 on the top, when considering the position of use, for receiving screws 6. Preferably, an edge 7 is provided along the top of the mini cassettes. The mini cassettes 4, which are partly seen in figure 1 and mainly in figure 2, are intended for receiving the titanium screws 6. Since these are screws with a specific diameter, the holes 5 are in function of the dimensions of these screws calibrated.
Other mini cassettes, indicated with change 8, 8 'serve to receive implants 9 or 10 (figures 3 and 4, also partly figure 1). All mini cassettes have a base 18 visible in figure 2. A transparent lid 19 fits on all mini cassettes.
In Figure 3, the mini cassette 8 'comprises a central tap 11 and two lateral raised parts 12, the profile of which is adapted to that of the implantological material 13.
In practice, the lateral elevated parts extend as high as the stud 11 and are therefore situated at a higher level than the central portion 14.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The grafting of the implantological material 9, 10 takes place with a specially designed titanium tweezer.
According to Figure 4, the mini cassette 8 'has a number of projections 14 in which the lattice-shaped implantological material 15 can be contained. Here, too, the grid-shaped and implantological material 15 can be gripped with a titanium tweezer provided for this purpose.
The mini cassettes 9 and 10, like the others, are made of a neutral material, such as, for example, "Teflon", "Delrin" or polysulfone and thus can be sterilized repeatedly.
The advantages offered by the packaging and presentation assembly according to the invention are thus very clear.
In addition to the presence of the neutral-fabricated mini cassettes, the implant material, which itself consists of titanium, resides in an "environment" made entirely of titanium. An additional space 16 can be provided on the support plate 1 for receiving implantological material which would have very specific dimensions or properties.
It is therefore very clear from Figure 2 how a titanium and screwdriver specially designed for this purpose
17 can take a screw 6 from one of the holes 5 provided for this purpose from a mini cassette 4.
It is clear that the invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment and many modifications could be made to it without departing from the scope of the patent application.
