<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Figuur 4, tenslotte, toont hetzelfde mechanisme in geopende toestand.
Door de mechanische afscherming, verder veiligheidskap (6)
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Protective cover: Moving protection to prevent the animals from opening the closing mechanism of their feed gates.
The invention can be situated in livestock farming.
She deals with a moving safety device to prevent the animals from opening the closing mechanism of their feed gates at a time that is not appropriate for the farmer.
The invention can be seen as an addition to, and an improvement on, an existing system.
This system is illustrated in Figure 1 on the left side of the axis. The solid lines show the feeding gate in closed position.
The closing tube (7) which is hingedly fixed in a fixed hinge point (3) is vertical and thus prevents the animal from entering the feed gate with its head. The tube (7) will remain in this state as it is blocked by a closing mechanism (1). This mechanism consists of a valve (5) hinged to the tube (7) in a hinge point (11). The valve itself is held in position by a pawl (4) attached to a tube (2) which in turn is mounted longitudinally on the feed fence in such a way that it can be turned about a quarter turn.
When the farmer wants to feed his animals, he will turn the tube (2) (about a quarter turn) until the catch (4) no longer prevents the valve (5) of the closing mechanism (1) from moving. When the animal now touches the closing tube (7) with the head, it will hinge in the fixed hinge point (. 3), so that an opening is created through which the animal can stick its head to access the feed.
If the farmer wants to close the gate, it is sufficient to turn the tube (2) back, so that the catch (4) returns to its original position. When the animal now moves its head downwards, the feeding gate will close again.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It has been found in practice with the existing closing mechanism (1) that the animals can open this with the tongue or with the head, by lifting the flap (5) over the catch (4).
The invention discussed here aims to prevent this.
It is in fact a cover that moves with the closing mechanism and thus prevents the animal from influencing the functioning of the mechanism at any time (eg with its tongue).
Furthermore, it is essential that this shielding does not in any way prevent or limit the proper functioning of the closing mechanism. For example, it must remain possible to open and close all feed openings collectively and also to unlock each feed opening individually.
To clarify the invention, we now discuss a possible embodiment in detail.
Consider figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 for this.
Figure 1 provides a comparison between the old system (left of the axis) and the improved embodiment, using the invention (right of the axis).
Figure 2 shows a possible embodiment of the protection, being a mechanical shield.
Figure 3 shows how the shield is mounted on the existing closing mechanism. We see the mechanism when closed.
Finally, Figure 4 shows the same mechanism when open.
Due to the mechanical shielding, further safety cover (6)
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
mounted on the locking mechanism (1), the animals cannot reach the valve (5) to open the mechanism. The safety cover (6) is attached to the same hinge point (8) as the cover (5). The pin (9), which is located between the rotatable tube (2) and the feed fence, prevents the safety cover from being lifted, so that the animals cannot reach the valve (5). The closing mechanism (1) can be unlocked by pushing the valve (5) with a finger, through the hole (10), whereby the valve (5) is lifted over the catch (4). The closing mechanism (1) and the safety cover (6) move simultaneously and hinge independently of each other.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The invention can be situated in livestock farming. It improves on a conventional feed gate closing mechanism.
The major drawback of this mechanism is the fact that the animal itself can open it by nudging it with its tongue or head.
The invention discussed here makes such a thing impossible.
It is in fact a shield that moves with the closing mechanism, making any contact between animal and closure impossible.
The invention can therefore be seen as an addition to and an improvement on an existing system and is characterized by:
A. the fact that it moves with the closing mechanism and thus always prevents the animal from influencing the functioning of the mechanism (eg with its tongue). ** WARNING ** End of DESC field may contain beginning of CLMS field **.
