Abstract

Process for melting industrial residues. Industrial environmentally unfriendly residues such as fly ash from waste incineration plants, blasting grit, sewage sludge or contaminated soil are possibly melted after adding additives in such a way that an environmentally harmless product is obtained. The environmentally harmless product can be used as such or serve as raw material for the production of a good cement. Melting takes place in an electric melting furnace at 1,600 degrees C, possibly after preheating to 1,000 degrees C. The environmentally unfriendly substances escape during this process and are caught in a known manner. Additives are added to the environmentally unfriendly material such that the resulting mixture can be melted at a temperature that is 200 degrees C to 400 degrees C lower than the temperature in the melting process described above. The products of this second melt are completely vitrified and can be stored without danger to the environment, because these vitrified environmentally unfriendly products are virtually non-leachable.
