Composietprofielen
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Composite profiles
Plastic profiles, more in particular made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), are increasingly used in the construction industry, more particularly for window frames, balustrades, etc. They have the advantage, among other things, of a small specific weight, mass production, rapid composition and arrangement, resistance to corrosion, etc.
On the other hand, they have the disadvantage of being fragile.
Before that, they sought to reinforce these profiles in one way or another.
So far there are two solutions in use, but not without drawbacks. In one case, appeal is made to profiles made of plastic with a special composition, including a. Reinforced with glass fibers. However, the deformation of this material is very difficult and expensive.
On the other hand, the plastic profiles are now regularly made of PVC, reinforced with steel profiles that are slid into the PVC profiles.
These composite profiles have the disadvantage of being much heavier, which takes away part of the advantage of the PVC profile and requires two types of tools to process the PVC part and the steel part, for example for cutting to assemble the profiles and windows. . In addition, they are also subject to rusting of the steel section, which leads to a faster destruction of the profile and thus also takes the advantage of less maintenance with the plastic profiles.
The object of the invention is a new kind of composite plastic profile, with the aim of overcoming these drawbacks.
The composite profiles according to the invention have the feature of being composed on the one hand of the ordinary plastic profiles, more particularly PVC profiles, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on the other hand from reinforcing profiles reinforced with glass fiber thermosetting resin, more particularly polyester.
Further features and advantages will become apparent from the following description of two examples of composite profiles according to the invention, with the help of the accompanying figures.
Figure 1a represents the cross-section of a composite profile reinforced with a profiled steel angle iron.
Figures Ib and 1c represent the cross section of a composite profile according to the invention for the same function as the profile shown in Figure 1a.
Figure 2 represents the cross-section of another composite profile according to the invention.
According to the existing embodiment shown in Figure 1a, a composite profile as shown in Figures 1a and 1b consists of a PVC profile (1) into which a steel profile (2) has been inserted. When using steel profiles, one is bound to the machining methods of steel, and in the case shown in Figure 1a, one uses a steel profile (2) in the shape of a U, the two legs (3) and (4) of which extend along the parallel sides (5) and (6) respectively, while the base (7) of the U-profile (2) supports the recessed wall (8) of the PVC-profile (1), which is further with a rib (9) should be supported.
In a composite profile according to the invention which has the same function as the profile shown in figure 1a, the steel profile is replaced by a profile of glass fiber reinforced thermosetting resin, such as polyester. Since these profiles are produced by pultrusion, in which the polyester is mixed with glass fibers and polymerized in a mold, these profiles can be given a more adapted shape
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
according to the PVC profile to be reinforced.
In Figure Ib, the profile (1) is already given a first simplification due to the disappearance of the reinforcing rib (9) due to the fact that the pultruded profile (10) can be given a much smoother shape by pultrusion than by bending and bending the steel profile.
In this first simplification presented in Figure Ib, the pultruded U-profile (12) is given two rounded ribs (19) so that the base (17) of the pultruded reinforcement U-profile (12), not just the recessed wall (18) , but also the rectilinear side wall (15) of the PVC profile (11) supports two other panels, which gives a better resistance to the composite profile, since the pultruded profile (12) is much stronger than the PVC profile (11) .
Furthermore, the pultruded profile (12) has an additional transverse connection (10) which increases the strength of the reinforcement profile (12) by connecting both wings (13) and (14) at a distance from and parallel to the base (17 ). This is also an improvement that is not possible with the steel profiles.
In Figure 1c, an improved composite profile is presented on the profile (1) of Figure 1a.
Indeed the PVC profile (21), which has the same external shape as the PVC profiles (1) and (11) of Figures 1a and 1b respectively, now remains without the internal connections (5) and (6) of the base PVC profile (1) shown in Figure 1a.
This is now possible, because the pultruded profile (22) can have an H-shape with double soul (27 and 20), which is not possible with pleated steel profiles and where the respective wings (23) and (24) of the pultruded profile (22) can slip into the corresponding slots in the PVC profile (21).
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Figure 2 represents another example of a composite profile according to the invention, composed of a PVC profile (31) and a glass fiber reinforced polyester profile (32) which has been pultruded, the pultruded profile (32) being composed from a soul section (33) provided with different transverse sections 34,35, 36,37, 38 which may or may not have supporting sections 39,40, 41 and 42 on which the walls of the PVC profile (32) are supported, which gives greater strength to the composite profile due to a greater moment of inertia than is possible with a corresponding steel reinforcement profile.
Composite profiles according to the invention can be processed by simple tools that are the same for both the PVC profile and the reinforced pultruded profile. They are rust-resistant, light in weight, thermally and electrically insulating, without bending, can be run and have no condensation chambers.
