<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>

VISUAL EFFECT FOR AUTOMATIC REPRODUCERS OF SOUNDS AND IMAGES.

show part or all of the mechanism or other elements constituting the system, this kind of device having always presented a certain fascination for the public.
On the other hand, from an aesthetic point of view, or according to the environment in which the device is placed, it is often
<EMI ID = 2.1>
and less technical.
The object of the present invention is to propose means for producing an appliance, certain elements of which are made visible only at certain times, in relation to the operating or non-operating cycle of the appliance.
Another object is to propose means for linking the moments of visibility of the mechanism with the introduction of money into the device.
To achieve these goals, a temporary screen is essentially proposed between the parts of the mechanism or of the elements to be seen, and the exterior of the device.
Means are provided for making the screen active or inactive, and means are provided for determining the moments when the screen will be active or not.
In order to clearly understand the invention, non-limiting examples will be given below.
In FIG. I, a device of
<EMI ID = 3.1>
canism is visible through a protective sheet of glass or transparent plastic 2.
Here, the panel 2 is opaque, and in which a window or opening 3 is provided which is temporarily opaque.
This light screen can for example be produced by a diaphragm 5, FIG. 3, or by superimposed polarized filters 6 and 7, FIG. 4, the directions of polarization of which are crossed.
When the screen is a diaphragm, it can be opened and closed, for example, by a solenoid 8, the coil 9 of which, when it is supplied at certain times as explained below, may result in its core 8 'plunger, the diaphragm sheets to open it.
When the coil 9 is no longer supplied, the diaphragm closes by returning the spring 10.
When the screen 4 is produced by polarizing filters, the crossing or alignment of the polarization sense can be obtained for example by an electric motor II provided with an endless screw 12 which can act on teeth 13 integral with the filter 7.
By rotating the filter 7 90 degrees relative to the fixed filter 6, the directions of polarization will be aligned and the filter will thus be made permeable to light rays.
It can therefore be seen that the apparatus shown in FIG. I could have a very uniform, non-technical appearance, and at certain times, make visible certain attractive elements of the apparatus, for example the mechanism for changing discs 14, as shown in FIG. 2.
The open position of the screens can be combined with the supply of a light source intended to illuminate the attractive elements of the device in order to increase their pro gressively the effect up to a maximum level when the screens are fully open.
The effect can be particularly advantageous for wall-mounted devices containing for example a mechanism 15 mounted in a housing 16, FIG. 5., The front panel 17 is opaque and provided with a porthole
<EMI ID = 4.1>
This wall unit is connected to a quantity of separate selectors and speakers, with or without wires, not shown.
The wall unit contains the mechanical part
and electronics should therefore not be approached by the public for its use, but occupies an elevated position very visible at all times by the entire audience and will present a pole of interest at certain times.
At certain other times, it is desirable that the apparatus does not denote, by an overly technical aspect, in. the style of the establishment in which it is placed.
If a screen 19 is therefore provided, for example, produced by polarizing filters as shown in FIG. 4, the apparatus may take on a uniform appearance when the directions of polarization are crossed, FIG. 6, and when the filters have aligned their directions of polarization, the mechanism will be visible, possibly in an increased manner by interior lighting synchronized with the opening of the screen, FIG. 5,
and will draw more intense visual appeal.
Lighting, for example, provided in the device I
of FIG. 2, can be controlled by a switch 20
closing when the plunger core 8 'of the solenold 8 will reach the end of its travel when the diaphragm 5, FIG. 3, will be completely open.
The screen could also, for example, be produced by a sheet of glass or transparent plastic provided with a layer of material with a different reflection index so that the light can pass in one direction, and be reflected in the 'other direction, related to the intensity of light inside or outside the device.
The open or closed moments of the screens, and the intensity of the light inside or outside the device will be controlled by elements, not described, already existing, and specific to the kind of system or models of mechanisms. used, for example when the motor of a mechanism is electrically powered to carry out a cycle of change from one disc to another. This same information can be used to control the opening of the momentary screen
so that the mechanism is visible every time during the entire mechanical activity of the device only.
Also, for example, the introduction of money into the device may determine the opening of the screen so that the elements will remain visible for a determined period of time,
In addition to opening the screen, light bulbs can be powered at the same time to cause an increased visual appeal.
