POSITIEVE VOLCONTINU VARIABELE TRANSMiSSIE.
Positieve, totaal continu variabele transmissie.
Aandrijfas (A) drijft rechtstreeks zonnewiel (3) aan en, on-
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
POSITIVE VAKIATURSYSTRMEN.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

TANDENSYSTKMbM.
1. TANDENBLOKKEN. a.

ontworpen ketting- (3).
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
buiten drukken.
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
Z1 = idem worm,
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
;dient te maken. Deze rotatie wordt overgedragen op tandwielstel (9-10) en koppeling (8) ; bedraagt deze meer dan een omwenteling van de worm (of een halve omwenteling van de schroef), dat zal koppeling (8) bvb 1/2 toer worden doorgedraaid, dit om te vermijden dat correctie over meer dan en toer van de worm dient te worden uitgevoerd.
WERKING.

<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
10geschikte materialen.
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>

zoals in fig.

POSITIVE FULL CONTINUOUS VARIABLE TRANSMISSION.
For variable transmissions, use is also made of systems with energy transfer over pulleys, where the engagement diameter of a belt or chain can vary continuously.
The system is positive if this belt or chain has teeth; ie timing belts or chains, which then engage the teeth of these pulleys with variable engagement diameter.
This was already dealt with in my previous patent application; patent number 08701139 from 6-10-1987 entitled:
Positive, totally continuously variable transmission.
The present patent application deals with improvements, especially regarding the positioning of the tooth blocks opposite the chain. Furthermore, a system of positive energy transfer with magnetic attraction of chain or belt through the pulley is included.
DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE.
First, a variant of a differential drive is described, for full continuous variation. a more compact version of a differential drive is shown in Fig. l. It has two sun wheels (1 and 3), two linked satellites (2 and 2 '), which drive the driven axle. Drive shaft (A) directly drives sun gear (3) and ,-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
direct, also sun wheel (1) by drive, over variator (V) and shaft (C), of gears (4), (5) and (6). when both gear ratios are correctly selected, shaft H: - is completely stationary, - starts moving with the most favorable gear ratio to the desired speed, even in reverse rotation.
Intermediate wheel (b) can be avoided by designing wheels (4) and (6) as belt or chain transmission.
Also, gear (4) can drive gear (6) directly, for example, by having gear (1) drive directly through shaft (A), the satellites over variator (V) and gears (4 and 6) and finally the driven shaft ( count) by gear (3).
POSITIVE VAKIATUR SYSTEMS.
These may consist of a belt or chain transmission over two pulleys, divided into a number of segments fig. 2 (3), which can change diameter concentrically, in this case the conical discs (1) coming to or from each other. With the exception of the magnetic system described below, both belt and chain are intended to have teeth that engage teeth mounted on the pulley segments. in addition, chain or belt runs outside the engagement area with the tooth systems over the outside
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
surface of these pulleys.
The variable circumference of the pulleys will only be fully divisible in certain intermediate positions by the tooth pitch (or the diameter by the module); beyond that there will always be a "surplus" or "too short" for resp. one tooth less or one more. in the contact zone with the chain, the teeth of successive sectors must be positioned in such a way that they always follow each other with a number of times the tooth pitch. Outside the contact zone with the chain, the teeth must reposition themselves, which means a displacement to direct them to the teeth of its predecessor.
As the circumference varies, the mutual position of the teeth on the sectors should also be adjusted.
The. tines on the sectors are mounted so that a. in the contact zone with the chain: - locked against front or backward pressure of the chain, - continue to position opposite chain tines when changing pulley circumference. b. outside the contact zone with the chain: - place it in a new position opposite the chain.

TEETH SYSTEMKMbM.
1. DENTAL BLOCKS. a. Tooth blocks t ig. 3: these are segments (2), which are built into their frames (1) (the mutually concentrically movable pulley segments), which they can be moved by adapted mechanisms on a circular path and at least once the tooth pitch . They are outwardly provided with a number of teeth, with straight or bevel teeth, which can engage in one for this purpose
EMI4.1
designed chain (3). They also fit sideways in slot guide (11), keeping them in their frames.
Their forward and backward movement is ordered by the rotation of barrel worms (4), with a pitch equal to the pitch of chain (3) and mounted in frame (1), by engaging the internal worm profile of tooth block (2). The pitch angle should be sufficiently low that they would be secured against the actual pressure of the tooth block (2). The turning of worm (4) is ordered by screw (5), with the same pitch as worm (4) and not locking by a larger pitch angle. This screw can now only be moved actively by cam arm (6), whose cam is fixed in one of the cam valleys of cam plate (), part of the previous tooth block frame and pressed in by chain (3).
In FIG. 3 the sectors are next to each other, so at their smallest
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
diameter; remove them, then screw (5) will move opposite frame (1) and rotate worm (4) so that tooth block (2) follows its predecessor. The condition is that screw (5) and worm (4) are both provided with right-hand or left-hand thread.
Now leave this comb plate the contact zone with the chain, with spring (10) pushing it outwards, springs (8) and (9) cam arm (6) will try to move to its starting position and thus also tooth block frame (2).
It now depends on what position the previous frame will occupy whether the cam of the cam arm (6) will end up in the first or the second tooth. He experiences n. 1. some resistance to get completely out of a valley. The cam valleys of the comb plate (9) are exactly at a stitch length of the chain from each other and, when the cam arm (6) engages, the tooth block (2) also exactly one time the pitch of its predecessor. b. Tooth blocks Fig. 4. is a variant embodiment of FIG. 3. As the following systems Fig. 6, 7 and 9, this system consists of a. A locking worm gear; b. a non-locking screw that will rotate under the influence of an actual displacement and c. a coupling (for its implementation: see Fig.
8), ordered by the chain. Fig. 5 shows a possible structure of the transmission for this. Slide (1) is pressed by the chain; spring (4) will turn it back to
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
press outside. Pins (3) attached to the ring (2) and fitting into the angled slots of (1) will fit sleeping (2), in turn fitting into the slot of coupling (8), as well as to the coupling of the coupling give right angle displacement.
Here worm (4) is driven by a gear set (5 and 6) that receives its movement: a. In the contact zone with the chain (coupling in): - of any mutual displacement of the tooth block frame (1) (changing pulley circumference ), causing non-locking screw system (7) (with a pitch equal to the chain pitch divided by the gear ratio of gears 5 and 6) to make the gear (6) rotate and so, via gear (5) and worm (4), tooth block (2) moved.
In this case, screw (7) should have a left-hand thread (so reversed than that of the worm).
- of the movement made by the worm (10) of the previous tooth block and transferred via the tooth set (11) and coupling (8) to the shaft (9): the tooth block (2) thus follows the movement of its predecessor and possibly also its follower : therefore works in two directions.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
b. Outside the contact zone with the chain (coupling 8 out): - of the turning movement that shaft (9) will receive from torsion springs (12); these are fixed on one side to shaft (9) and on the other to tooth block frame (1).
Torsion springs (12)) were tensioned by rotating shaft (9) when the coupling was closed and thus in the contact zone with the chain; when clutch (H) is switched off, these springs will push shaft (9) to its starting position, so that the tooth block (2) also goes to its starting position. when the clutch is engaged again, the tooth block (2) will move a tooth to the front or back, depending on the position of the left-hand part of the coupling and the previous tooth block.
2. GEARS.
This uses gears (Fig. B: 1 and 2), which are built into frames (5) and which usually involve a few teeth in the toothed belt or chain (6). They are coupled on their shaft to a worm wheel (3), which is moved by worm (4). The rotation of this worm is ordered in the same way as the worm of the previous figure: by screw (7) and the worm of the previous tooth block with clutch engaged (count), with the difference that no reset to a starting position is required here because gears can keep going. Coupling (8) is possible

look like (4-5) in Fig. 8. with suspension system (6). The process shown in Fig. 6 occurring part (9) is a bevel gear transmission or CV-joint.
The screw should have a pitch of: ps = p * Z * Z1 / N * Z2 ps = pitch of screw p = pitch of gear,
Z = number of teeth of gear wheel.
Z1 = ditto worm,
Z2 = ditto worm gear, N number of revolutions of screw for 1 stitch length rotation of gear.
Jt. WORMWHEEL BjN.
Fig. 7: here the teeth consist of a worm (2) lodged in frame (1). The worms are barrel-shaped, so that they follow the curvature of the outside of the sectors. The thread angle should be such that the worm is secured against the chain pressure. It is connected to its predecessor by gear set (4-5), shaft (b), screw (7), coupling (8) and gear set (9-1U). See also Kig. 8. In fig. 7 the sectors stand up

their smallest circumference; when the clutch is engaged, the worms, teeth and screw are mounted opposite each other so that the chain fits exactly in the successive worms.
Tooth positioning: a. Clutch (H) engaged: ie contact zone with the chain; on the one hand, when the worm (2a) is rotated (self-correction), its movement will be transferred by the gear (9 and 10) shaft (6), etc. to the worm (2) and, on the other hand, when the sectors are displaced (other pulley diameter), screw (7) (with non-locking thread angle) turn shaft (6) and, via gear set (4-5), screw worm (2) in such a way that their tooth profile remains in the correct position opposite the chain. The condition is that screw (7) has an inverted thread than worm (2).
The pitch of screw (7) is obtained as follows: ps = pw * Tw * T5 / T4 pw = pitch worm, ps = pitch screw,
Tw = number of teeth of worm,
T4, T5 = number of teeth of gears 4 resp. 5 b. clutch (H) disabled: when going back

from the contact zone, worm (2a) will focus on its predecessor, this means that it has a certain rotation
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
should make. This rotation is transferred to gear set (9-10) and coupling (8); if it is more than one revolution of the worm (or half a revolution of the screw), the coupling (8) will be turned 1/2 turn, for example, in order to avoid correction over more than one revolution of the worm executed.
Fig. 8 shows in more detail the transmission between the two worms. The bevel gear sets (1-2) and (7-8) bridge, among other things, the angle between the two worm shafts.
Screw (3) has a pitch angle greater than the locking angle; it will then rotate due to actual pressure. The coupling consists of a link piece (4), connected to the threaded bushing of screw (3) and a counterstack (5), which can be moved on bushing (10), on which gear (7) is fixed. Spring (6) presses counterpart (5) against link (4). with clutch engaged, counterpart (5) is pressed against its left-hand stop (here gear 7). Spring (6) is therefore fully depressed. with the clutch disengaged, spring (6) counterpiece (5) will still continue to push against (4). Shaft () and sleeve (10) are mounted in such a way that they can rotate in their bearings of resp. frame (11) and (12), but cannot move the material.
OPERATION.

moving (changing pulley circumference), it will in principle rotate shaft (9); counterclockwise when pressing the screw and vice versa. Shaft (13) will then rotate in reverse as will the worm it is in. The tooth profile of the worm will move the same distance as the mutual displacement of frames (11) and (12) and thus follow the tooth profile of the chain. Corrective motion of the previous worm is also transferred from shaft (14) via gears (8, 7, 1 and 2) to the worm of shaft (13). Depending on the prevailing resistance on the worms, the rotational transfer can take place both to the previous and to the next worm.
DISENGAGEMENT. Coupler (4) and the associated threaded sleeve of screw (3) will screw slightly onto shaft (9), even with some displacement of the frames (11) and (12). Depending on the rotation of counterpart (5), by positioning the previous worm, link (4) will follow its movement or skip a tooth if the movement of (5) is more than half a turn.
LINKING. Link (4) is pressed against (5), with the worm of shaft (13) positioned correctly opposite the chain (and previous worm) just before the chain engages. The mechanism that operates the clutch is shown under Fig. 5 set out.

EMI12.1
Fig. shows the worm system of previous patent, here the complicated twin screw system was replaced by a single (6), with the same pitch and sense as worm (4). Component (5) can be a CV-joint or bevel gear transmission. The coupling (1-2) has as many mutual positioning possibilities as worm (4) teeth have. apart from the fact that there is no intermediate shaft here, the operation is as in previous figures with worm systems.
MAGNETIC SYSTEMS.
This uses magnets, which are in frames, which approximately replace the tooth blocks in Fig. and 4 the coupling systems with previous tooth blocks may then be simple couplings with arbitrary positions between the coupling elements themselves. The belt or chain is then made of a magnetic material, which is most suitable for this. Also its shape and surface, which comes into contact with the magnetic blocks, should be most suitable for maximum magnetic attraction. the magnets should also have maximum strength, best dimensions, shape and arrangement for this purpose. Among other things, the magnets can be arranged one after the other (with alternating North and South) or next to each other (one side only North above, the other side only South).
The distribution plate, if present, should also have ideal dimensions and the most
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
10 suitable materials. The system can now be constructed with or without a distribution plate (to better direct the magnetic flux and to short-circuit the magnets opposite the chain or belt) and may or may not have a short-circuit system. In the latter case, the flux must be sufficiently finely divided and the chain must also consist of a large number of separate links, so that the force required to detach the chain from the pulley remains small.
The simplest system is shown in Fig. 10.
Magnetic block (1) (here without drawn magnets or distribution plate) is contained in block frame (2) by slot guide (5) between spring sets (3) and (4). From the first magnetic block, which comes into contact with the belt again, until the last, the reaction from belt to block and frame will progressively increase the pressure on springs (3) or (4) (depending on drive or driven disc). With changing belt diameter, this pressure will equalize progressively, or increase even more or even increase inversely progressively. However, since the circumference changes per revolution only slightly, those pressure changes are also minimal.
After leaving the contact zone with the belt, block (1) will return to its middle position; there should be n here. 1. not taking into account any positioning against chain or belt. am system of mechanical block correction for small
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
block displacement is shown in Fig. 11 and 12. FIG. 12 is a detail drawing (developed) of the movement mechanism; for clarity, the same numbers were used as in fig. l l. block (2) has an angled slot at the bottom, into which cam (12) fits arm (9), which is pivotally secured in shaft (10), which in turn is fixed on frame (1). Cam (12) keeps block (2) blocked.
The articulation of arm (9) is ordered by slide (), provided with an oblique slot, in which cam (11) of arm (9) fits. Slide (8) is held in a middle position by springs (13). In the contact zone with the chain, it is connected to the previous block by coupling (4). The coupling consists of a contact piece (4) with chain (3), an intermediate spring (5), a contact piece with slide (8) and a counter piece (7), forming part of block (14). when the coupling is pressed, slide (8) is clamped between (6) and (7), so that it follows the movements of block (14).
The forward or backward movement of (8) is transferred via cam (11) in a hinged movement of (9). Cam (12) transfers this enlarged displacement to block (2) so that it undergoes the same displacement as (8). When the coupling is released, slide (8) will return to its starting position by springs (13), as will block (3), by the way. This system is also applicable for tooth blocks (Fig. 3), but (7) must then have a comb plate
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
and slide the slide (8) in the appropriate place.
MAGNETIC SHORT CIRCUIT SYSTEMS.
A system commonly used with machine tools is shown in Fig. You; (l) x are the magnets, which alternately have N and Z at the top. (2) is the distribution plate.
Strips (3) between the magnets and in the distribution plate are made of non-magnetic material. In the left sector, chain (5) is attracted to the magnets: the field lines pass through the magnetic strips (4) and through the chain, in the right not, as the magnets are shorted over the magnetic bands (4) of the distribution plate, this is the state just before the contact of the chain with the magnetic block or just before breaking it. The operation of shifting the magnetic blocks is achieved by the chain pushing in slide (6) or spring (9) again pushing them out; as a result, comb (7), which is connected to the magnetic block with one arm, is moved to the left or right by sliding in slot (8).
Fig. 14 shows a system in which the chain itself short-circuits the magnets (1), sufficient to allow the chain to leave the magnet block. Chain (3) is made up of magnetic links (5) and (6) etc. with suitable shape for clamping with distribution plate (2).
The chain has an intermediate piece (4), which is a link with an extension (4a), downwards. ij it
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
Following the curvature of distribution plate (2), the underside (4a) of intermediate link (4) will have no contact with distribution plate (2). Leaving the chain of the magnetic block causes the members of chain (3) to change angle. Because the link of the shorting piece (4) of the magnetic block hinges, the conical bottom piece (4a) will make contact with the distribution plate and thus short circuit it.
This short-circuiting must be long enough for link (5) to detach from the magnetic block (or from distribution plate 2).
EXAMPLES.
IN FRONT OF. PICTURE L. When a machine is driven by an electric or internal combustion engine by connecting a gear unit with a planetary gear set as shown in Fig. l, provided with a positive or non-positive variator, depending on the selected gear ratio, they can be brought from a standstill to the desired speed, even in reverse direction, while the motor continues to run at a constant speed.
EXAMPLE 2. The positive variator as shown in FIGS. 3, 4, etc. is switched on between the motor and the machine, the speed of which is to be able to be controlled continuously or kept constant between certain limits.
EXAMPLE 3. A means of transport equipped with a positive continuously variable transmission, as shown in FIG. i, combined with a variator with pulleys
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
as in fig. 3,4, etc., The ratio of the transmission can then be continuously adjusted from standstill to the desired final speed, so that the engine, depending on the demand (maximum acceleration, constant speed) or the conditions (hilly terrain), can run in its optimum regime (the speed for maximum power, efficiency or torque), independent of the speed of the driven axles.
