COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Name of Applicant: Actual Inventor: Address for Service is: Invention Title: Ann Cameron Ann Cameron Ann Cameron 799A New South Head Rose, Rose Bay, N.S.W. 2029 "Envirolope"/(Make your own envelopes) 2 •r Details of Associated Patent Application Number: P08664 Date: 20 August 1997 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: Envirolope I Make your own envelopes Technical Field This invention is in the nature of a device to make envelopes and the method to be employed to use the device resulting in a number of ways to produce various styles of envelope and related products from virginal recycled paper materials.
Background to the Invention No other products allow for the self-production of stationery products with recycled paper and materials that are specifically suited to postal communication. No other product has the ability/flexibility to utilise the variety of material for creative, aesthetic recycled stationery products (example: used magazine pages, beach scene/nature sporting scene) enabling the finished item to convey the message or evoke the emotion which is produced by the envirolope. At present no other products allow self-production of envelopes, bookmarks, serviette rings and cards from graphic or thematic used printed material, virgin paper, photocopies, wrapping paper, The invention: 1. The envirolope is an invention which enables the easy, accurate and efficient manufacture of envelopes, bookmarks, cards and serviette rings from graphic or thematic used printed materials (example, magazines) or virgin paper, photocopies, wrapping paper; 2. The envirolope employs a number of templates (see drawings numbered Fig 1 and Fig 2 which ensure easy, accurate and consistent manufacture of envelopes in a variety of sizes; 3. The prefabricated templates (drawings numbered Fig 1 and Fig 2) allow the precise framing of the proposed subject matter of the envirolope, facilitating the use of this thematic material for the envelopes; 4. The invention is particularly useful given that it produces envelopes which meet postal specifications; The envirolope is particularly apt for the production of stationery envelopes because it incorporates a cut out viewer to provide for the "framing up" of the image on the paper Fig 1/1 Fig 2/1 for the front of the envelope and for the adhesion of address labels and the stamp Fig 111 Fig 2/1 (1, 2,3) 6. The envirolope templates also provide an easy, accurate and consistent mode of manufacture of cards from secondhand or recycled paper products; Fig 3 7. The envirolope also allows the easy and consistent manufacture of bookmarks from secondhand or recycled paper products; Fig 4 8. The envelope templates also provide an easy, accurate and consistent mode of making matching envelopes from gift wrapping paper.
The basic mode of manufacture employing the envirolope is as follows: 9. To make a standard size envelope to postal specifications.
S(i) Fig.111 Paper is chosen magazines, newspaper, photocopies, wrapping paper etc. (6) The template Fig. 1 is positioned with regarding being given to both the position of the label Fig 111(1) and stamp and to the image on the paper This is undertaken via the cut-out viewer S (ii) The outside of the template Fig. 1 is then outlined Fig 1/2 and cut out Fig.1/3 (iii) Fig 1/4 Folding of the sides and bottom and top flaps is undertaken.
This is followed by gluing (iv) Fig 1/5 Positioning and adhesion of the address label and stamp Fig 115 (1,2) '^ism 1 ~m To make a gift size envelope.
Fig 2/1 Paper is chosen magazines, newspaper, photocopies, wrapping paper etc. (6) The template Fig 2 is positioned with regard being given to both the position of the label Fig 2/1(1) and stamp and to the image on the paper This is undertaken via the cut-out viewer The outside of the template Fig 2 is then outlined Fig 2/2 and cut out Fig 213. (1) (ii) Fig 2/4 Folding of the sides bottom and top flaps is undertaken.
This is followed by gluing (iii) Fig 2/5 Positioning and adhesion of the address label and stamp Fig 2/5 (1,2) 11. To make cards and postcards.
Fig 3/1 Paper is chosen magazines, newspaper, photocopies, wrapping paper etc (1) The template Fig 3 is positioned with regard being given to the image on the paper Fig 3/1 This is undertaken via the cut out viewer (2) (ii) Fig 3/2 The inside of the template is then outlined and cut out Fig 3/3 (1) (iii) The template is then placed onto a white card to provide a backing. The card is outlined and cut out. Note same step as 11 above.
S (iv) Fig 3/4 The white card is glued to the cut-out paper image 12. To make bookmarks Fig. 4/1 Paper is chosen magazines, newspaper, photocopies, wrapping paper etc (1) The template Fig 4 is positioned with regarding being given to the image on the paper Fig 4/1 This is undertaken via the cut-out viewer (ii) Fig 412 The inside of the template is then outlined and cut out Fig 4/3 (1) (iii) The template is then placed onto white card to provide a backing. The card is outlined and cut out. Not same steps as 12.(ii)abeoe.
(iv) Figure 414 The white card is glued to the cut-out paper image (3) The envirolope is inherently economical, simple and likely to be extremely useful.
PF p ar 13r- -i s l2r~P~~4~-ri The object and purpose of the envirlope is to allow for the production of an envelope, bookmark or card of an infinite multitude of pictures, images and themes; the purpose and object of the envirolope is to provide a simple manufacturing device which will lend itself readily to reproduction of paper work products and the nature of envelopes, bookmarks and cards without any outlay for the raw materials required for use in the envirolope. The purpose and object of the envirope is to allow for and promote the use of discarded paper products (ie. those discarded papers and magazines are used in the envirolope to manufacture envelopes, cards and the like).
Attachments I refer to the drawings which I have attached to this application numbered Fig.1 6 Each of the Figures has been labeled with a number.
Figure 5: depicts each of the contents of an envirolope pack; Figure 6: depicts the envirolope is simple, fast and effective: An envirolope can be created in approximately one minute.
At the same time the envirolope provides for the re-use of valuable resource in its original form (magazines and newspapers) "Recycling before recycling"- The receiver is provided with a novel, fun yet useful recycled envelope, which in turn promotes recycling in a direct, simple and beneficial light.
An envirolope pack eliminates the need to ever purchase another envelope.
The envirolope provides a simple yet accurate way for children to gain dexterity in S the handling, holding and outlining of the templates.
"In the first six months of this year Australia spent $792.4 million buying 241.6 million magazines (Sydney Morning Herald Friday 7 August 1998)" If only a percentage of those magazines were re-used to make envelopes cards and bookmarks. This would provide a significant reduction of the need to purchase these items.
S Claim: A unique prefabricated template system which will allow easy, accurate and consistent manufacture of envelopes; i (ii) Prefabricated templates which allow the fabrication of secondhand/recycled material; (iii) The envirolope facilitates speedy manufacture of envelopes, cards and bookmarks from readily available second use paper products;
