Description

SPECIFICATION ;mprovements in or relating to printed matter The present invention relates to printed matter and is primarily, but not exclusively, concerned with greetings cards.
Greeting cards normally comprise a folded piece of card and have on the front cover an aesthetically pleasing design such as a print from a photograph, painting or other design and, such a greeting card may well be printed on the inside with a suitable inscription depending on the use to which the greeting card is to be put.
iffor example the greeting cardwasforachild's birthday, the card may indicate on the outside the agethatthe child will attain on its birthdayandthe greeting inside the card may for example be'Happy Birthday'.
It is often the case that the purchaser of a card finds a card which he orshe particularlyadmires, orat least believes that the person to whom the card is to be sent will desire. However, the inscription on the inside may be totally inappropriate and may be directed to a person of the opposite sex from the intended recipient of the card or someone of a different age and, for example, the inscription may also bye totally inappropriate, possibly offering condolences when the sender of the card wishes to send congratulations.
It is an object ofthe present invention to provide a new or improved article that overcomes or reduces the problems mentioned above.
According to one aspect of the present invention, we provide in combination a greetings card having on one surface partthereof an artistic design, print or painting and an anothersurface parta blankspace, and a plurality of printed inscriptions, each on a separable piece of paper, said separable inscriptions being of a size and nature to enable them to be readily attached to the blank space on said card.
Preferably, said inscriptions are each provided on separable pieces of self-adhesive pa per, the pieces of self-adhesive paper being of a design or configuration that readily adaptes itself to securing onto said blankspacetoenhancethevisual appearance of the card.
It is envisaged that a plurality of cards, which may bearsimilarordifferentdesigns, may be provided with a plurality of different inscriptions which may for convenience be attached to a common backing card, whereby a different inscription may be attached to each card.
Preferably, the paper on which is written each inscription is self-adhesive and may be readily removed from the backing sheet and adhered to said blank space.
Alternatively, said card may comprise a surface treated in a mannerto readilyacceptandadheretoa non-adhesive piece of paper which bears said inscription.
It is further envisaged that said blank space may be provided in further design work on said card so asto achieve a particularly pleasing appearance and said space may be of a particular shape adapted to receive a piece of paper on which is written said inscription, the piece of paper being adapted to fit in the particular space on said card.
The cards may be adapted to receive more than one inscription and the inscriptions could be of a nature so that more than one may:be used alongside, or otherwise in combination with another, said card may be adapted to receive more than one inscription.
In the case where a single card is provided, a plurality of different inscriptions will be provided with said card. However, where a plurality of cards are provided together it is necessary onlythatthere is an equal numberofinscriptionsto enable each card to be provided with a suitable inscription.
The invention will now be described in more detail byway of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure lisa perspective view of a card of the present invention; Figure2 is a view of a sheet bearing a plurality of inscriptions; Figure3 is a view of a further card to which an inscription has been adhered.
Referring to the drawings, a greetings card is shown in Figure 1 and generally indicated by the numeral 10,thecard 10 having an outerfrontface (notvisible) indicated at 11 and which will bear some aesthetically pleasing design which may, for example, be a reproduction of a painting, a printor other artistic design.
The card has inside faces 12 and 13, the face 12 is normally left blank and the face 13 in conventional cards may be provided with a suitable inscription.
The card shown in Figure 1 is provided with a blank surface and the card 10is supplied in combination with a sheet 14 being a carrier sheet of a plurality of different pieces of paper 15 to 19 each of which bears a different inscription.
Each ofthe pieces of paper 15to 19will be provided with a self-adhesive surface and the backing sheet 14 is of a nature that enables each pieces of paper 15 to 19 to be readily separated from the backing sheet and adhered to any suitable face of the card 10.
By means ofthe different inscriptions provided on the sheet 14, the card 10 can be suitably used for a variety of different greetings and therefore suitable for many different purposes.
Referring now in addition to Figure 3, an alternative form of greeting card is shown at 20 in which an inside face 21 is provided with a specific space 22 which is bordered by an artistic design 23.
In this case, an inscription, such as the inscription shown at24, may be provided on a sheet in combination with a plurality of different inscriptions and the size of the piece of paper on which the inscription is written will be such as to fit properly within a border defined by the artistic design 23. It will be appreciated that such a "specific space" may be provided on any desired face of the card 20 and if desired there may be more than one such "specific space".
Whereas the space 22 has been shown as an oblong, it is envisaged that any suitable shape could be provided and the artistic design 23 will lead to an even more aesthetic pleasing effect.
Whereas in the specific examples mentioned above the inscriptions have been intended to be adhered to the inside of the card, it is envisaged that they may be adhered to any part of the card and,for example, in some cases one inscription may be adhered to an outside face of the card and anotherto the inside, in a case where it is apporpriate to use more than one inscription.
The features disclosed in the foregoing description, or the accompanying drawings, expressed in their specific forms or in terms of a means for performing the disclosed function, or a method or process for attaining the disclosed result, or a class or group of substances or compositions, as appropriate, may, separately, or in any combination of such features, be utilised for realising the invention in diverse forms thereof.
