Description

P/00/011 Regulation 3.2
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990
ORIGINAL
COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention Title: "A PIN STRUCTURE FOR PLUG" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us:
TITLE
A PIN STRUCTURE FOR PLUG BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the invention The present invention relates to a plug, more particularly to a pin structure for plug.
2. Description of the Related Art The use of the electrical equipment can provide much convenience for people and industry field. A plug is used to connect into a receptacle 0 for providing the power source of the electrical equipment. Because the exposed metal portion of the pins of the plug is used for electrical connection, the user or children may get an electrical shock by touching the exposed metal to cause the danger.
In many countries, a pin structure, as shown in Fig. 2, has been utilized in plug for safe consideration. The pin structure has become as a standard in some countries. The pin structure is manufactured from a pin structure assembly as shown in Fig. 1.
ooooo Referring to Fig. 1, the conventional pin structure 1 comprises a first portion 11 and a second portion 12. The circumference of the second portion 12 is smaller than that of the first portion 11. The second portion is covered with an isolation layer 13, as shown in Fig. 2. The first portion 11 is made of metal for electrical connection, and the isolation layer 13 on the second portion is provided-as a safe and isolation surface.
The isolation layer 13 usually is made of a plastic material, and the pin 1 1 is made of a metal material. In manufacture, the plastic material is injected and covered on the second portion 12. Because the second portion 12 is metal with smooth surface, it is difficult to fix and position the plastic material on the second portion 12. Therefore, the isolation layer 13 may slip around the second portion 12, and may easily separate from the second portion 12 to expose the metal material of the second portion 12 and to cause the danger again.
Furthermore, when the plastic material is injected and covered on the second portion 12 from a mold, the plastic material first flows through a side 121 of the second portion 12, then flows to a side opposed to the side 121. Therefore, Since the side opposed to the side 121 is farther away from the mold, the pressure of the injected plastic material may decrease. After the plastic material is formed and dry, there is a corrugated formed on the surface of the second portion 12. Besides, the plastic material may not completely cover the second portion 12. It is said as "hesitation effect and Sweld line", and may result in an ugly shape of the pin structure.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION One objective of the present invention is to provide a pin structure for plug. The pin structure comprises a first portion and a second portion.
The first portion is made of a metal material for electrical connection. The second portion has a circumference, and two opposed sides. The 20 circumference of the second portion is smaller than the first portion. The circumference of the second portion is covered with an isolation layer made of a plastic material for providing a safe and isolation surface. An aperture is formed through two opposed sides. The plastic material of the isolation layer can flow into the aperture to form the isolation layer to raise a fixed strength between the isolation layer and the circumference of the second portion. Besides, the plastic material of the isolation layer can form on the two opposed sides simultaneously so as to shorten a forming time and to reduce the hesitation effect and weld line.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to Fig. 3, according to the invention, a pin structure 2 comprises: a first portion 21 and a second portion 22. The pin structure is made of a metal material. The first portion 21 is used for electrical connection. The second portion 22 has a circumference, a first side 221 and a second side 222. The circumference of the second portion 22 is -4smaller than that of the first portion 11. The first side 221 and a side opposed to the first side 221 are recess sides than the first portion 11. The second side 222 and a side opposed to the second side 222 are recess sides than the first portion 11. An aperture 24 is formed through the first side 221 and the side opposed to the first side 221. The aperture may be formed through the second side 222 and the side opposed to the second side 222.
Referring to Fig. 4, an isolation layer 23 is covered on the second portion 22. The isolation layer 23 usually is made of a plastic material.
The plastic material of the isolation layer 23 is filled in the aperture 24 and is covered on the second portion 22 so that the fixed strength between the isolation layer 23 and the second portion 22 can be increased. Besides, when the plastic material is injected and covered on the second portion 22 from a mold, a part of the plastic material flows around the first side 221, *and the other part of the plastic flows into the aperture 24 then flows around the side opposed to the first side 221. The isolation layer 23 is formed on the first side 221 and the side opposed to the first side 221 simultaneously. Therefore, a time for forming the isolation layer 23 can be shortened to reduce the hesitation effect and weld line.
Referring to Fig. 5, a first type of plug comprises two pins of the invention and a housing 25A. The first portion 21 is metal for electrical connection, and the isolation layer 23 covers on the second portion 22 for providing both a safe and isolation surface. The housing 25A covers a part of the isolation layer 23. The isolation layer 23 'vill not affect the manufacturing process of the housing Referring to Fig. 6, a pin structure assembly has a plurality of pin structure 2, according to the first embodiment of the invention. The first side 221 and a side opposed to the first side 221 are recess sides than the first portion 11. The second side 222 and a side opposed to the second side 222 are recess sides than the first portion 11.
According to the second embodiment of the invention, a pin structure assembly has a plurality of pin structure 2A, as shown in Fig. 7.
The pin structure 2A comprises a first portion 21A and a second portion 22A. Every side of the second portion 22A is recess side than the first portion 21 A. Besides, an aperture 24A is formed an oval shape.
Referring to Fig. 8, a pin structure assembly comprises a plurality of pin structure 2 with an isolation layer 23. Fig. 9 shows a second type of plug having the pin structure of the invention and a housing 25B. Fig. shows a third type of plug having the pin structure of the invention and a housing While an embodiment of the present invention has been illustrated and described, various modifications and improvements can be made by those skilled in the art. The embodiment of the present invention is therefore described in an illustrative but not restrictive sense. It is intended that the present invention may not be limited to the particular forms as illustrated, and that all modifications which maintain the spirit and scope of the present invention are within the scope as defined in the appended claims.
