SPECIFICATION
STANDARD PATENT Power Lead Support The following staitement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:
V
POWER LEAD SUPPORT Technical Field.
The present invention relates to power leads and. more pirticalarly,-to a portable power lead support suitable for use on building sites and similar applications.
Background of the Invention Building regulations stipulate that power leads on building sites must be suspended well above ground level. To this end, haphazard and sometimes dangerous attempts are sometimes made to support electrical leads and wires on building sites. There are no known portable, easily installed devices for supporting power leads on building sites.
10- Object of the invention.
It is the object of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate at least some of the above disadvantages.
Summary of the invention.
There is disclosed herein a portable power lead support for supporting at least one electrical 15. lead above ground or floor level, said support comprising A base for placing on the ground or floor At least one substantially vertical member mounted on said base; and A means to support at least one said lead, said means being mounted on said e.tical memberl The power lead support is retractable.
The power lead support is adjustable in height.
The substantialiy vertical member is telescopically adjustable in height.
When fully extended, said power lead support is between 3 and 4 meters in height.
The said base comprises a plurality of legs which extend radially around a central support on Swhich a said vertical member is mounted.
Attached to said legs are feet which make contact with the ground or floor, and pivot at the attachment point to the said legs.
The power lead support further comprises means to secure said base to the ground or floor, said means preferably comprising pegs. bolts or external weights applied to the said feet.
The cable or wire support means are adapted to be removably mounted on said vertical mnimber.
In one form of the invention a bracket may be attached to the said mast onto which one or more electrical outlets adapted to be connected to one or more electrical leads ismiounted.
Brief description of the Drawings.
A preferred embodinent of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: FIG 1: shows one example of a power lead support according to lhis invention.
and, FIG 2: is a proposal for folding legs.
S .Detailed description of the preferred embodiments.
FIG I: shows a portable power lead support which is siihding on the groundor floor The-: support comprises a base three vertical members aid support means for electrical leads. The base comprises a number of legs which c.tend radially from central supports Referring drawing FIG 2.I1t can be seen that the legs arc.atached to a sliding boss (10) and are designed to collapse parallel to the main vertical support 9) when not in use. A hollow vertical post is mounted on the central support and two other vertical posts (3 4) are telescopically installed onto the low vertical post In this way. the power lead support can be retracted for easier transportalion. The telescopic vertical posts (3 4) can be fixed into.position by means of screws (not shown) locking pins (not shown), or spring loaded pins (12) which engage in corresponding holes in the vertical posts. However other suitable fixing meansare within the scope of the invention. A number of holes could also be provided in each vertical post so that the height of the vertical member could be adjusted. The electrical lead support preferably comprises one or more substantially spiral shaped loops mounted on the upper end of the uppermost part of the vertical member (4).This spiral support may be fixed to the uppermost vertical member by means of a screw thread pins or other means. Preferably the leads are supported between 3 and 4 meters above ground or floor level.
The base of the power lead support may be fixed to the ground by means of applied weights.
pegs, or bolts.
Clips (not shown) are attached to the legs (11) to allow for storage of pegs when not in use.
Optionally, the power lead support could be provided with an earthing device (not shown), and one or more electrical outlets so that power tools and the like can be plugged into tile power supply at the power lead support It is envisaged that the power lead support could be provided in an assembled and retracted state, requiring the vertical member to be extended The power lead support is a convenient, portable way of suppcrting the electrical leads used on a building site or similar. Other applications where electrical leads are used are also within the scope of the invention.: Of course, it can be seen that tile power lead support could be used o support electrical cables.and wires, air lines, telephone wires, etc. if required.
