Description

Self-adjustable rabbet support for cutting machine in particular for mitred frame mouldings.
The invention relates to the technical field of framing and aims to perfect a machine for mitring mouldings thanks to a self-adjusting rebate support.
It is well known to equip such machines with rebate supports sliding along two guides angled at 45 in relation to the plane of the moulding.
These supports, which slide under the rebate, serve to support the moulding at the time of the cutting operation, in order to prevent it from tilting and being incorrectly cut. However, for this purpose, the horizontal heel of the rebate support has to be fitted under the re-entrant angle of the rebate, and against the latter, as perfectly as possible without raising the moulding.
Hitherto, knurled knobs associated with the mobile mechanism formed by the rebate support, have enabled the heel of the support to be raised or lowered to place it at the correct point against the moulding. This operation is not always easy for the user as, if the moulding is not correctly held on a work table, it may result in its being raised above the table. This mechanism thus lacks sensitivity and obliges the user to proceed by trial-and-error before locking the rebate support at the correct height.
The Applicant proposes to overcome these drawbacks by providing a self-adjusting rebate support, which is simple to handle, by means of which the support is always correctly placed in relation to the rebate, without the latter being displaced.
The invention thus relates to a rebate support for a machine for mitring, in particular, frame mouldings, comprising a rebate bottom stop in the form of an angle iron mounted on a rod displaceable on said support and comprising means for locking the rod heightwise on the support.
The invention is characterised by the fact that the rod is mounted slidingly on the rebate support and associated with a retumrn spring placed between its end and the base of the support, the rod being locked heightwise on said support by a locking mechanism.
More precisely, the locking mechanism is constituted by a clamping collar sliding over the rod and the two wings of which are pierced by orifices to allow through the pin of a locking lever.
The operation of the rebate support and the advantages that it procures will emerge from the following description of a preferred form of embodiment in which reference is made to the annexed drawings, wherein: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a mitring machine equipped with rebate supports according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a larger scale, cross-sectional view of a rebate support; Fig. 3 is a larger scale, cross-sectional view along line II1-111 of Fig. 2; Figs. 4 to 6 are elevation views of the machine during successive stages of operation.
Fig. 1 shows a work table 6, known per se, bearing a set of pivoting stops 2 serving to support moulding 3 to be mitred. For this purpose, cutting tools, not shown, are placed along two horizontal guides 4 angled at 450 in relation to stops 2. Each of these guides 4 is provided with a groove serving to permit the sliding of a rebate support, generally indicated by reference number 1 and shown in greater detail in Fig. 2.
Rebate support 1 is mounted on a slide 10, which is placed in groove 5, to which slide the support is fixed by a screw 11. Support 1 extends vertically above the slide and serves to house a sliding rod 12 integral with a rebate bottom stop 13 in the form of an angle iron. A return spring 14 is intercalated between the end of rod 12 and the base of support 1. On the upper part of said support is mounted and fixed by a screw 19 a clamping collar 15, which can also be seen in Fig. 3, a collar the two wings (15a, of which are pierced by orifices 16 to allow through the pin of a locking lever 17, which can be seen in Fig. 1. The end of the collar is provided with an opening 18 which engages over rod 12. The latter moves freely through the opening as long as the two wings (15a, 15b) of the collar have not been clamped by the lever.
In the position illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4, moulding 3 bears against stops 2, and rebate supports 1 are spaced therefrom.
3 The first operation to be performed by the user is to slacken off locking lever 17, which allows the wings of clamping collar 15 to part and thus releases sliding rod 12.
Said rod 12 can then be pressed down against the bias of return spring 14, as illustrated in Fig. 5. In this way, rebate bottom stop 13 reaches its bottom position, and, by acting horizontally in the direction of the arrow, rebate support 1 is displaced in order for stop 13 to slide under moulding 3. During this movement, the moulding is held manually against stops 2. The pressure on rod 12 is then removed and the rod is biased back upwards by spring 14 until stop 13 is pressed against the upper part of the rebate, with the moulding still held in place manually. It simply remains for the user to lock rod 12 in this position using locking lever 17, as shown in Fig. 6. Both rebate supports 1 are, of course, S* manipulated in the same way.
There is thus obtained an automatic means for setting a rebate support to the correct height in relation to a frame moulding, without the user having to proceed to special, laborious adjustments.
In this specification, except where the context requires otherwise, the words "comprise", "comprises", and 25 "comprising" mean "include", "includes" and "including", respectively. That is, when the invention is described or defined as comprising specified features, various embodiments of the same invention may also include additional features.
