DAVIES COLLISON CAVE Patent Trade Mark Attorneys Level 10, 10 Barrack Street SYDNEY NSW 2000 Penile support device The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:- 5020 p:\wpdocs\dys\specie\626 181.spe-20//9 7 -1- PENILE SUPPORT DEVICE This invention relates to a penile support device which, when worn, holds the penis generally away from the wearer's scrotum.
When wearing conventional undergarments a man's penis and scrotum are held tightly together. This can result in the testicles becoming overheated and irritated, thereby reducing the efficiency of the natural cooling effect which is necessary for the promotion of a healthy sperm count.
1 It is an object of the present invention to provide a penile support device which alleviates the aforementioned problem.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a penile support 15 device including a main body; a first penile support means operatively connected to the main body said first penile support means being adapted to support a penis in the region of the corona; a second penile support means operatively connected to the main body and being adapted to support the penis in a region spaced from the corona, the arrangement being such that, in use, the device is adapted to be carried by the wearer in a region of the users body above the scrotum so that the penis is held by the device so that it extends upwardly and away from the wearer's scrotum.
Preferably, the main body of the device is an elongated structure and the first support means is disposed in the region of one end of the main body and the second support means is disposed in the region of the other end of the main body.
In one preferred form the first penile support means comprises a ring like element which in use is adapted to at least partially encircle the penis in the region of the corona.
Preferably, the ring like element is configured so that its peripheral dimension can be p:\wpdocs\dys\speci\626181 .spc-20/5/97 -2enlarged or contracted.
Preferably, the second penile support means comprises a ring like element which in use is adapted to at least partially encircle the penis in the region thereof adjacent the scrotum.
The ring like element may also be configured so that its peripheral dimension can be enlarged or contracted.
In one preferred form the main body includes a pair of elongated members which are spaced apart and in one form generally parallel to one another. When, in use, the elongated members are preferably disposed on opposite sides of the urethra canal and extend generally in the direction of the penis from its base to its head. The elongate members may comprise at least two parts which can move in a telescopic fashion so that the length of the members S can be lengthened or shortened. These parts may be configured so that relative rotation therebetween is inhibited. To achieve this the parts may be of oval cross section.
Preferably, the ring like element defining the first penile support means is split at its perimeter so as to define two ends, one end being connected to one of the elongate members oooo and the other end being connected to the other elongate member. Further the ring like element defining the second penile support means may be spilt at its perimeter so as to define two ends, one end being connected to one of the elongate members and the other end being connected to the other elongate member.
Preferably, the rings are formed of a flexible or deformable or bendable material such as wire, plastics material, wire covered with a plastics sheath.
In another preferred form the first penile support means includes a frame section having two free ends and an elastic element operatively connected to and extending between the free ends so as to form a generally loop shaped structure.
In yet preferred form the main body and first and second penile support means are p:\wpdocs\dys\specie\6261 81.spe-20/5/97 -3formed from a continuous flexible element configured so as to form two generally loop shaped members defining the first and second penile support means with two spaced apart portions extending therebetween defining the main body, said portions being interconnected by an elastic element. The elastic element may be adjustable along the length of the spaced apart portions.
The device may further include means for mounting the device to the user. The mounting means may include one or more hooks at the end of the main body where the first penile support means is located, the or each hook being adapted to be releasably connected to a garment worn by the user. The garment comprises may be in the form of a waistband having a ring thereon for receiving the hook. In another arrangement the device may be adapted to be simply pinned to the waistband or other garment.
Several preferred embodiments of the invention will hereinafter be described with 15 reference to the accompanying drawings and in those drawings.
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a penile support device according to the present invention; ooo* o 20 Figure 2 is a side elevation of the device shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is schematic view showing the device being worn; Figure 4 is a side elevation of the device being worn; Figure 5 is a schematic view of the garment to which the device is mounted; Figure 6 is a schematic view of a further embodiment of device according to the invention; p:\wpdocs\dys\specie\626 181 .spe-20/S/97 -4- Figure 7 is a schematic view of yet another embodiment of device according to the invention; and Figure 8 is a schematic view of yet another embodiment of device according to the invention.
Referring to the drawings, the penile support device generally indicated at comprises a main body 11 comprising two elongated rod like members 12 and 13. In the embodiments shown in Figures 1 to 6, each of these rod like members is formed of two parts 16 and 17 and 18 and 19 which are mounted telescopically so that the members 12 and 13 can be lengthened or shortened.
The device further includes a first penile support means 20 in the form of a ring like element 21 which is spilt so as to provide for two ends 22 and 23 which are connected to 15 respective rod like members 12 and 13.
device further includes a second penile support means 30 in the form of a ring like element 31 which is split to form ends 32 and 33 which are also connected to respective rod like members 12 and 13 at the end opposite to the first penile support means. As shown 20 one or both rings may be integrally formed with the members 12 and 13. Support means need not be in the form of a ring but can simply be defined by a section against which the base of the penis rests when the device is being worn.
Referring specifically to Figure 6, the device shown is similar in structure to that shown in Figures 1 to 3 and like reference numerals have been used to identify like parts.
In this embodiment the first penile support means 20 includes a frame section 24 having hooks 25 and 26 formed at the free ends as shown. The hooks are adapted to mount an elastic strap 27 so as to form a ring. The strap 27 has a series of mounting holes 28 therein so that the effective length thereof and as such the size of the ring can be adjusted.
p:\wpdocs\dys\specje\626181 .spe-20/ 5 9 7 The embodiment shown in Figure 7 is similar to that of Figure 6 except that the main body 11 does not include the telescopic sections.
Referring to the embodiment shown in Figure 8 the device is formed from a continuous piece of wire or the like which is configured so as to define the first and second penile supports 20 and 30, the main body 11 and the mounting hook 39. An elastic element 29 extends between the two elements forming the main body 11. The elastic element 29 may be adjustable along the length of the main body 11.
oooo The device further includes mounting means 35 which in the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 5 comprises a pair of hooks 36 and 37 which are adapted to be mounted to a garment 40 comprising a waistband 41 and a mounting element 42. The mounting element 42 may be attached to the waistband via hooks, by being sewn or by any other means of attachment. The drawings illustrate the use of hook-like attachment means 43. In the 15 embodiments of Figures 6 to 8 the mounting means includes a single hook 39.
When the device is being worn as shown in Figures 3 and 4, the first penile support means 20 is disposed around the corona 51 of the penis 50 and the second penile support means 30 is disposed around the base of the penis adjacent the scrotum 52. The two 20 elongated rod like members 12 and 13 defining the main body extend along the penis 50 to each side of the urethra canal 54. By using a penis support device of the type described the penis may be comfortably held in the desired position even during moderate exercises and allowing for air circulation around the testicles and a greater opportunity of the testicular function not being impaired.
Finally, it is to be understood that various alterations, modifications and/or additions may be incorporated into the various constructions and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit or ambit of the invention.
