Description

COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention Title: IIPROMIMMT TO POUR LEGGED TA3IsES The following statement is a fual description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:- 1 1 I. I 2 IPRCMV .MNTS TO FOUR LEGGOD TA3LzS This invention provides a novel device to automatically maintain the four table legs of a single central support column table in contact with the floor when the floor surface is uneven.
A conventional single central support column table with four legs will rock when placed on an uneven floor surface. This can cause a dangerous situation where hot liquids and food can spill onto a person seated at the table.
There have been a number of methods used to overcome this problem.
For example, the fitting of screw adjustments to the legs, or the provision of wedges placed under the legs, to prevent the table rocking. The disadvantage of these methods are that they need manual re-adjustment each time the table is moved.
The present invention overcomes this problem by automatically maintaining the four legs in contact with the floor surface thus preventing the table from rocking. To more fully explain this invention it will now, vith the accompanying drawings, be described more fully.
FIG.1 shows a typical arrangement of the leg assembly 2, each leg assembly comprise a substantially T-shaped member with two floor contacting legs and a control arm 3.
FIG.2 shows a vertical section with numbered items to help explain the operation of the mechanism. The two identical leg assemblies 2 complete with control arms 3 are pivotally mounted and attached by a 25 pin 4 to the central table support column 1. A horizontal control Slink member 5 is pivotally mounted on a centrally located vertical pin 6 fixed in the base of the table central support column 1. This control link member 5 having a straight slot in each end to engage the vertical pins 7 projecting downwards from the leg assemblies 2.
30 The operation of the mechanism is as follows:- When the table is placed on an uneven floor surface, a high spot under any leg will cause that leg to rise, in so doing cause that leg assembly to rotate about pivot pin 4 and because the leg assemblies 2 are connected together by control link member 5, this 35 will cause the other leg assembly 2 to rotate in the opposite direction until all four legs are in contact with the floor surface.
The apparatus illustrated has been advanced by way of example only and the detail construction of the mechanism can be varied considerably. For example, as illustrated in 0G.3 the mecLanism S 40 could be reversed with pivot pin 4 at the base of the central support column 1, the control link member 5 passing through two slots 8 cut in opposite walls of central support column 1 and pivotally mounted on vertical pin 6, located and fixed centrally within the central support column 1. The slotted ends of control S* 45 link 5 engage vertical pins 7 fitted in and projecting upward from control arms 3.

Claims (3)

1. A four legged single central support column table, with two identical leg assemblies, each comprise a substantially T-shaped member with two floor contacting legs and a control arm, pivotally mounted and attached by a pin to the central table support column, connected together mechanically to rotate in opposite directions so that the four table legs maintain contact with the floor.
2. The four legged single central support column table of claim 1 wherein the two leg assemblies, complete with control arms, are connected together by a control link member pivotally mounted and attached on a centrally located vertical pin in the central support column base, the control link member having a straight slot each end to engage a pin projecting vertically dovnward from each leg assembly. 15
3. A four legged single central support column table substantially as herein described with reference to tLe accompanying drawings. 0e e. 0 0 a *0a S *e a *0 *0 *e a 0r 0 0 *0 a (Name of Applicant) (Date) i r el -1 t I I ABSTRACT Improvements to four legged tables is disclosed. The device has two leg assemblies pivotally mounted on a central table column and connected together by a control link member When the table is placed on an uneven floor surface, a high spot under any leg will cause that leg to rise causing that leg assembly to rotate about pivot pin this will cause the other leg assembly to rotate in the opposite direction until all four legs are in contact with the floor surface. 0 000* 00.* e e *0 00 -I-
