Description

P/00/01l /19 AUSTALIARegulation 3.2 Patents Act 1990
ORIGINAL
COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention T itle: The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:- '4 .2t2VttVr4rXV' -1- Variable Transmission This invention relates to improvements in devices for the transmission of power.
The inability to transmit power in various ratio's, the inability to use an ideal ratio for any current situation and the inability to change ratio's without disengaging the power source results in the loss of power and inefficiencies.
There have been a number or proposals for providing continuously variable transmissions, but these have had problems with either large amounts of wear, large amounts of slippage or both. These proposals have the problems of having to constantly change parts or the amount of power lost S through slippage removes any advantage of having the ability to choose an ideal ratio and to change ratio's without disengaging the power source.
These problems have been overcome by the present invention, which provides variable transmission comprising of a split wheel, with each sector or part thereof mounted on extendable arms, with are mounted on a common axis.
In one form of the invention, a split gear made of any suitable material metal, alloys or ceramics) 5 with each sector or part thereof mounted in a fixed state does not revolve around that axis) on the ends of arms with any suitable mounting device bolted, riveted or cemented). These arms are extendable by any suitable means hydraulics, mechanical or electrical) and made of any Ssuitable material metal, alloys or ceramics). These arms are mounted on a common axis by any suitable means bolted, riveted or cemented) h another form of tho inventin, a split .prcket or pulley mad of any suitable material I, alloys or ceramics) with each sector or part thereof mounted in a fixed stat es not revolve around that axis) on the ends of arms with any suitabl ing device bolted, riveted or cemented). These, arms are extend any suitable means hydraulics, mechanical or electrical) and ma suitable material metal, alloys or ceramics). These arms are mounted -3 nmmonn avi hy any iiitanl mnens (if halted riveter or rmenteril To assist with understanding the invention, reference will no be made to the accompanying drawings which shows examples of the invention.
In the drawings: t', f1 9 -3 11- -2- FIG. 1 shows one example of a variable transmission according to this invention. Parts of sectors of a wheel are mounted on the end of extending arms which are fixed to a common axis FIG. 2 shows the application of such a variable transmission. Power is transmitted through the variable transmission to and/or from a gear or wheel mounted on an unfixed axis The axis of this gear is controlled such that there is always contact between it and the variable transmission Power is transmitted through this gear or wheel to and/or from a gear or wheel mounted on a fixed axis These gears or wheels (2 and 3) are made from any suitable material metal, alloys or ceramics) and are mounted in any suitable way bearing). The position of the gear mounted on the unfixed axis is controlled by any suitable means mechanical or electronic).
jn. r lc of su.h a airial trasseis.... hlis 44 -W transmission to and/or from a chain or belt to a sprocket pulley or w 2. sprocket, pulley or wheel is mounted on an unfixed axis and is con such that there is a constant amount of tension in the chain or belt Th ets, pulleys or wheels (2 and 3) are made of any suitable material m oys or ceramics). The chain or belt is made of any suitable material I oys, ceramics, rubber or plastics). The position of the sprocket pulley or wheel rtd on the '-nfixed axis is controlled by an'y suible means mechanical or electronic).
i
I
It will be realised the variable transmission according to this invention io not restricted to the examples shown, but may consist of any number of sectors of a wheel or parts thereof, mounted on Sthe end of extendable arms which are mounted on a common axis.
