The method for writing and reading information stored in binary form on an information support (20) based on ferroelectric material (23) concerned is characterized in that the inscription of the information is done by polarization of areas (27) of the support corresponding to information bits, the areas inscribed being either in a first polarization condition or in a second polarization condition; in that the reading of information is optical, the information support generating in response to incident light beams (30) light signals of second harmonic (31) and variable amplitude according to whether the read areas are in the first polarization condition or in the second polarization condition. The invention also relates to a writing or reading device as well as to an information support.
