Jeffrey Rayfield Spruson Ferguson, Patent Attorneys Level 33 St Martins Tower, 31 Market Street Sydney, New South Wales, 2000, Australia Deodorizer Dispenser ASSOCIATED PROVISIONAL APPLICATION DETAILS [311 Application No(s) [33) Country PK6346 AU [321 Application Date 27 May 1991 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us:- 5815/5 -2- DEODORIZER DISPENSER The present invention relates to systems for odour control and more particularly to devices for use with containers having a lid, such as large garbage and refuse bins which are now in common household use.
In one broad form this invention provides a deodorizer dispenser to be affixed to the underside of a lid of a container, the dispenser comprising a first chamber to accommodate deodorizer powder, a second chamber into which powder from said first chamber is admitted upon tilting of said lid, perforation means to allow transmission of said powder from said second chamber to the interior of said container, and a closable opening to allow refilling of the first chamber with deodorant powder without having to remove the dispenser from said lid.
Preferably the dispenser as defined above further comprises means to affix said dispenser to the lid of a said container for selective transmission of said powder into said container.
In a further form this invention provides a deodorizer dispenser comprising: a first chamber adapted to store deodorizing powder; connection means adapted to connect said first chamber to a lid of an associated container; a second chamber, having a top portion and a bottom portion, said bottom portion being provided with perforations to allow the deodorizing powder to pass therethrough into the interior of the container, said top portion including an opening in communication with said first chamber; said first and second chambers being adapted so that a portion of said deodorizing powder in the first chamber will enter the second chamber when the container lid is open, such that the portion of deodorizing powder in the second chamber will pass into the interior of the container through said perforations when the lid of the container is closed, and a closable opening upon the dispenser to allow refilling of the first chamber with deodorant powder without having to remove the dispenser from the lid of the associated container.
S' SA/1619h 3 Typically, said closable opening comprises an aperture having an upstanding skirt fixed to its periphery adapted to fit through a hole provided in the lid of the container, in combination with a cap adapted to close said hole in the first chamber, although in a preferred form of the invention the opening will be located to allow filling of the deodorizer from within the container when its lid is opened.
Typically, said connection means comprises a set of bolts projecting from the top of the first chamber together with a corresponding set of nuts adapted, when set on respective said bolts, to secure said deodorizer to said container lid, said bolts extending through corresponding holes formed in said lid.
Typically, said second chamber is elongated, with one wall common to a side wall of the first chamber, the perforated bottom portion being part of the bottom wall of the first chamber, although the second chamber may be substantially cylindrical with portion of its wall of circular section being common with a side wall of said first chamber.
A preferred form of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view (part broken away) of the dispenser according to the present invention; Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the dispenser of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows how the dispenser of Fig. 1 is located within a container; Fig. 4 shows how powder enters the second chamber when the lid is open, in the dispenser of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 shows how powder leaves the second chamber and enters the interior of the container when the lid is closed, in the dispenser of Fig. 1.
0 In the drawings, a dispenser 1 is provided with a first chamber 2 adapted to store deodorising powder 3. Holes 4 are provided for bolts and hole 6 has upstanding skirt 6a provided with cap 6b. A second chamber 7 is provided in or adjacent the first chamber 2 having a top opening 7a connecting with the first chamber 2 and a bottom perforated opening 7b which connects the second chamber 7 and the interior of the 35 container 8, the perforated bottom 7b actually being part of the bottom /l69h *4L -4wall of the first chamber 2. It will be noted that opening 7a in the depicted embodiment (Fig. 1) comprises a pair of opposed portions 7c of the circular section wall of second chamber 7, of reduced height compared with the remainder of that wall.
In use, the dispenser is attached to the lid 8a of the container 8 by means of bolts 5. When the lid is opened, the chamber 2 is tilted and powder 3 falls into the second chamber 7 (Fig. When the lid is lowered the powder 3a in the second chamber falls into the container interior 8b (Fig. Obviously, some powder may fall through in the first step, but this amount will be minimal. The dispenser acts to dispense a controlled (limited to within a predetermined range) amount of powder into the container's interior each time the lid is opened.
