There is a known type of garden edJging formed from short lengths of logs which have been longitudinally split in half. The half logs have been connected together by two wires which are either stapled to the flat surface of the timber piece or passed through holes which are drilled into the timber. This type of lawn and garden edging has a certain amount of flexibility in its use. However, it has been known that the wires which are used to connect the timber pieces together can corrode and this therefore reduces the effective life span of the edging.
In another type of garden edging it is known to connect a plurality of timber pieces adjacent one another by providing a slot in opposite edges of the timber pieces whereby a rigid moulded plastics strip is inserted into each pair of opposed slots to ensure the timber pieces remain together. The slots in the timber strips are T-shaped and co-operate with protrusions on the plastics strips to prevent the timber pieces from being separated. This type of installation allows the edging to be installed by a handyman, however, the nature of the plastic 20 strip in the slots requires substantially exact alignment of adjacent timber pieces and is not adaptable for curved garden beds, for example.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved lawn and garden edging which substantially overcomes or ameliorates the above mentioned disadvantages.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is disclosed a lawn or garden edging apparatus comprising a plurality of post elements each of substantially half-round cross-section with side o* edges located at the intersection of a substantially curved face and a substantially flat face, wherein a slot extends into the side edges at 30 least partially along the height of the post elements and a flexible strip is secured by fasteners into said slots to thereby connect adjacent said post members to constitute a flexible edging material.
One embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings in which: tA HRR'I56c 64 a Fig. I is a transverse cross-sertional view of a post element of the preferred embodiment, Fig. 2 is a front view of a staple which is used to connect the post elements of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of a plurality of post elements formed into the edging, HRH/1156c Fig. 4 is a plan view of the edging of Fig. 3 illustrating the flexibility thereof, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a peg which is used in conjunction with the edging of the preferred embodiment, and Fig. 6 is a rear right perspective view of a small number of the post elements of Fig. 1.
The edging 1 of the preferred embodiment includes a plurality of post elements 2 which are joined together to form the edging 1. The post elements 2 comprise either routed timber pieces or moulded pieces formed from timber particles and glue as illustrated in Fig. 1. The post elements 2 have a substantially half-round transverse cross-section.
Each of the post elements 2, has a pair of side edges 3 located at the junction between a substantially curved front 4 and a substantially flat rear 5. The side edges 3 have a chamfer 6 at the junction with the flat 15 rear As illustrated in the drawings, the side edges 3 have a slot or groove 7 which extends substan'ially along the length of the post element
C
~2.
0 As illustrated in Fig. 4, a plastics strip 8 which is preferably a UV stabilised PVC flexible flat strip is able to be inserted into the grooves 7. By means of at least one staple 9, the strips 8 are stapled at the top and bottom of the post elements 2 and thereby secured into the groove 7.
°O
As illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, a plurality of the post elements 2 25 are able to be joined together and the material of the plastics strips 8 allow flexibility of the edging 1 in order that the edging 1 can be formed into a curve as illustrated specifically in Fig. 4.
As illustrated in Fig. 5, a peg 10 is able to be connected to the edging 1 by nails, for example, in order that the edging 1 befixed in its intended position.
Tho foregoing describes only one embodiment of the present invention, and modifications obvious to those skilled in the art can be made thereto without departing from the scope of the present Invention.

Claims (6)
1. A lawn or garden edging apparatus comprising a plurality of post elements each of substantially half-round cross-section with side edges located at the intersection of a substantially curved face and a substantially flat face, wherein a slot extends into the side edges at least partially along the height of the post elements and a flexible strip is secured by fasteners into each opposed pair of said slots to thereby connect side-by-side adjacent ones of said post members to thereby constitute a flexible edging arrangement.
2. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said fasteners comprise staples.
3. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein said fasteners are located adjacent the top and bottom of said post members and pass through said flexible strip and terminate within said post members.
4. An apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the flexible strip is formed from a PVC plastics material.
An apparatus as claimed in claim 5 wherein said PVC is a UV stabilized.
6. A lawn or garden edging apparatus substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
