Description A housing carrier for turbomachines The invention relates to a device for mounting the housing of a turbomachine on an installation site member, a foundation, a base plate or the like, For mounting turbomachines on the site member of installations, a large number of systems have been proposed. Thus, the West German Offenlegungsschrift No.
23 59 591 shows an angled foot which is in the form of a casting and consists of two essentially U-shaped elements arranged at 900 relative to one another. In this manner, attachment to a base plate as well as to an intermediate housing containing an electric motor is achieved. A simple angled foot which is secured to the suction side of the pump and establishes a connection with Se the base plate is known from the British Patent Specifio o 'o cation No. 1,057,346. A base plate is known from the U.S.
Patent No. 1,886,035, which constitutes the preamble, and o 20 is formed with a special holder to which a matching pump 0 housing is secured in a plane perpendicular to the pump shaft. These solutions have a common feature in that the housing is secured in a plane perpendicular to the pump *ro l ""shaft.
oo: 25 A totally different and, above all, yieldable mode of mounting the housing is shown in the West German 0:0 Auslegeschrift No. 29 05 864 where the housing is clamped o.o: in a type of lattice structure and hinges are formed at the connections between the rods of the lattice structure. In this manner, unacceptable stresses induced by thermal expansions are to be compensated for and functioning of the housing during strong vibrations is to be insured. For this reason, attachment points are required adjacent to the central axes.
The object of the present invention is to devise a less complicated attachment device for turbomachines, which while having a simple structure and simple mounting 7 features ensures a high degree of versatility and rigidity.
According to the present invention there is provided la
I
a device for mounting a housing of a turbomachine on an installation site member such as, a foundation or a base plate, the device when mounted, being adapted to establish a connection to an end of the housing, the device comprising a rigid, single or multipart support frame, said support frame including: one or more carrying elements for attachment to said end of the housing, receiving elements for attachment to the periphery of the housing; and foot elements disposed adjacent to the receiving elements for connection to the installation site member, and wherein fastening means are adapted to attach the support frame to the turbomachine and the installation site member to parts of the support frame.

-2- A totally different and, above all, yieldable mode of mounti the housing is shown in the West German Auslegeschrift 29 864 where the housing is clamped in a type lattice structure and hinges are formed at the connection.s'between the rods of the lattice structure. In this manrer, unacceptable stresses induced by thermal expansions re to be compensated for and functioning of the housing dZ-ring strong vibrations is to be insured. For this re son, attachment points are required adjacent to the centrpr, axes.
The object of the/present invention is to devise an uncomplicated att -ment device for turbomachines, which while having a simpe structure and simple mounting features ensures o^ °a high del ee of versatility and rigidity. This object is to be ac ieved by the features indicated in the characterizing paf of claim 1.
This design leads to a fastening means which may be produced in a simple manner, as for example as a stamped component.
Oppositely placed receiving elements are attached to the outer diameter of the housing so as to transmit forces, and foot elements arranged adjacent to such receiving elements serve to transfer the forces which are taken up. A single or multi-part carrying element connected with the receiving F and/or foot elements, which is also connected with the end of Ithe housing, leads to an extremely stiff design. Forces acting on the housing are taken up not only by the receiving I o° and feet elements but also in addition by a carrying element and transferred to the base plate. The use of a carrying element extending transversely in relation to the longitudinal Tt axis of the housing and the connection thereof with the end of the housing, as for instance adjacent to the flange surface for a housing closure, makes it possible to take up loads, more particularly those acting transversely in relation to the longitudinal axis of the housing. This means that displacements of the stub shaft are reduced to a minimum.

-3- In accordance with one possible form of the invention centering means are employed to locate the support frame on the housing. With the aid of the centering means it is possible to achieve a very substantial simplification of mounting, since it is no longer necessary for the support frame to be aligned on the housing and after it has been attached all that is needed is for the connecting elements to be screwed on. The centering means may include centering pins, holes, surfaces or the like which cooperate with corresponding mating surfaces on the housing of the turbomachine and, respectively, on the bearing carrier, drive motor or the like to be mounted on the housing. For instance when repairs or servicing are necessary on the installed turbomachine, this makes possible simple and reliable mounting Sof a bearing carrier. For the support frame then forms a component of the reference points or, respectively, of the reference surfaces, to which the turbomachine or other parts S of the installation are related.
In kepin g h a further -a*eea of the invention the centering means on the end of the housing and/or on a component shutting off the housing end bear on counter *"O0 surfaces on the carrying element. It is for instance possible for a bearing carrier or a sealing flange provided at the end of the housing to be fitted with centering pins extending into corresponding centering holes in the carrying element. During :assembly all that is required is for the part to be slipped on in order to ensure a precise location of the support frame.
In accordance with another f ea of the invention the carrying element is provided with openings to accommodate fastening means. If the end of the housing is in the form of a flange and if it is closed by means of housing end plate or a flange-mounted block assembly for instance, it is then possible to use the carrying element and the 4 openings made therein to attach the support frame to the housing in a simple manner using the fastening means holding the closure member.
In another possible form of the invention the receiving and foot elements are made integral or in a single piece and are connected with one or more carrying elements. In contrast to a single-piece construction in which for instance the form of the carrying frame is stamped from sheet material and is then bent into its desired shape, this form of the invention is characterized by an enhanced 0' elements provided on the two sides of the longitudinal axis of the housing may be each made in one piece, i.e. integrally, and be connected by lugs or the like with a carrying element. A spot weld is Svery satisfactory in this respect for connecting the single parts. For housings with different external diameters but with standardized mounting holes of attachment to a foundation, it is possible for the *0 0e0* receiving and foot elements to be made in two parts as well. This means that a simple combination of o0-. prefabricated foot elements with different receiving surfaces resting against the housing makes possible an adaptation to different housing sizes of a line of machines. It is however also possible for the receiving element resting against the housing to be Smade integrally with the carrying element and for the foot element ensuring the connection with a base plate to be an independent component.
A still furtherform of the invention is characterized by a multi-part carrying element connected positively and/or non-positively with the one end of the housing. In the case of a rigid housing it is thus possible for one housing flange to 4 4 -o -i be made as a component of a carrier inasfar as carrying elements applied to the receiving and/or foot elements lead to a connection with the housing.
The connection between oppositely placed foot elements is then ensured by the carrying elements and flange sections, placed therebetween, of the end of the housing. For this purpose it is possible to have angular lugs on the individual parts to ensure attachment.
Working examples of the invention are shown in the drawings and will be described in detail in the following account.
Figure 1 shows a single stage turbomachine.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the support frame.
Figures 3 and 4 are front views to show different ways of assembling the individual parts.
The embodiment of the invention shown in figure 1 o "o comprises a turbomachine 1, as for example a centrifugal pump or a radial turbine, which is provided with a bearing carrier 2 closing the housing. Adjacent to the bearing carrier 2 there is a stay foot 3 creating a connection with a foundation 4. The support frame 5 in accordance with the invention is mounted adjacent to the turbomachine and is connected with the foundation 4 and the 0 turbomachine 1 itself. Those screws 6 responsible s for producing a secure connection between the bearing carrier and the turbomachine also simultaneously serve to provide the connection between the support frame 5 and the end 7 of the housing of the turbomachine 1. At the outer wall of the turbomachine there is a further attachment means in the form of flange elements 8 and conventional 5 fastening means.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a working embodiment of the invention with a support frame made in three parts. It consists of a carrying element 9 which is bent into a U-shape and on the limbs thereof is provided with receiving elements 8 resting against the housing of the turbomachine. The receiving elements have openings 10 for cooperation with suitable fastening means in producing a connection with the turbomachine. On the carrying element 9 or the receiving elements 8, respectively, there are foot elements 11 in the form of separate parts which are held in place by means of screws or by welding or the like. The angular foot elements 11 in this case have holes 12 for attachment to a base 0 plate, a foundation or a some other suitable site fixture.
The foot elements It arranged on the outer side of the carrying element 9 may also be attached to the inner sides, something that makes possible simple adaptation to different hole spacings.
4 t The openings 13 in the carrying element 9 serve to receive screws 6 which extend through them and I which serve to hold together the turbomachine 1 and S the bearing carrier, a block motor, a generator or i the like and which connect the carrying element 9 of the support frame 5 with the turbomachine. The holes in the carrying element 9 are part of the centering 7e means 14 inasfar as pins, not shown here, on the housing fit into these holes. This provides a simple way of locating the parts to be joined in relation to each other.
It is thus readily possible to make the carrying element 9 integral with the foot elements 11 or to make the entire support frame integral, i.e. as a 6 ice, i single-piece construction.
Figure 3 shows a further working example in which one respective receiving element 8 and foot element 11 are designed as a single component and are externally mounted on limbs 15 of the carrying element 9.
In the modified design shown in figure 4 the limbs 15 of a bent U-like carrying element 9 are furnished with inwardly bent foot elements 11.
Receiving elements 8 designed as individual parts are attached to the limbs 15 by spot welds 16.
By suitable combinations of the individual parts 0it is possible for the support frame to be used for a very wide range of different sizes of the turbomachines to be installed.
