This invention relates to trays for light commercial vehicles.
According to the invention there is provided a tray for a vehicle comprising a pair of spaced apart main runners secured to the chassis of the vehicle and extending longitudinally therealong, a plurality of floor panels and a plurality of connector means that connect each floor panel transversely along the main runners, wherein each floor panel consists of an inverted U- shaped channel which has inwardly directed flanges at the mouth of the channel and each connector has a planar face with a connecting member passing therethrough to attach it to one of the main runners and a recess which receives one of the inwardly-directed flanges and a panel connection portion with a connecting member passing therethrough to attach it to one of the side walls of the U-shaped channel, the connecting members being readily removable so that a selected floor panel can be detached from the main runners without removing adjacent floor panels.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood and put into practical effect, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings in which:- Fig. 1 is a partially cut-a-way perspective view of a tray for a vehicle according to one embodiment of the invention, and, Fig. 2 is an enlarged, cut-a-way view of the connector means for joining the main runner and floor panels of the tray shown in Fig. 1.
The tray for a commercial vehicle shown in the drawings includes a pair of parallel, spaced apart main runners 10 (only -11 L i.

Each floor panel 11 is in the form of an inverted Ushaped channel with the base 12 of the forming part of the tray floor and the walls 13 of the extending downwardly towards the main runners 10. At the lower end of each wall 13 there is an inwardly directed flange 14 that sits upon the main runner The floor panels 11 are connected to the main runners Soby connector 15 one of which is shown on an enlarged scale in o..

The planar portion 16 has a recess for receiving the inwardly directed flange 14 of a floor panel and it will be noted that the connector portion 17 is dimensioned to fit between the inwardly directed flange 14 and the base 12 of the floor panel 11.
SThe planar portion 16 of the connector clip 15 is secured to the main runner 10 by a bolt 20 and the floor panel connector portion 17 is connected to the wall 13 of the floor panel shown in Fig. 2 by a bolt that passes through aperture 21.
The tray shown in Fig. 1, also has a fully welded and galvanised headboard 22 and a tarpaulin sealing channel 23.
A preformed drop side 24 is fitted to each side of the tray as is a tail gate 25 that is mounted on a non-rattle hinge on -4-

Full length tire rails 27 are provided beneath the side coaming 28 of the tray.
Various modifications may be made in details of design and construction without departing from the scope and ambit of the invention.
