Abstract

The vein-occluding device for parts of the human body has a lock- housing and a clamping lever pivotably mounted therein. The shaft (4) of the clamping lever (3) terminates before the outer surfaces of the side cheeks (2a, 2b) of the housing. 0 00 00 0 0 o° The known venous tourniquet devices for extremities 0 are typically arranged such that an axle pin is pro- 0° 10 vided for the pivotal support of the clamping lever, 0 °o 0 the pin being supported in both sides of the lateral cheeks of the lock casing. The lateral cheeks are provided with bores that lead to the outer surface of the lateral cheeks so that the axle pin can be transversally passed through the lock casing from the outside.
The outer surfaces of the lateral cheeks of the lock casing are treated such that the front faces of the axle pin are in flush with the outer faces of the lateral cheeks. The axle pin may be externally visible, but the outer surfaces of the lateral cheeks remain 3 plain. Experience has shown that the axle pin will not always remain in its position if the tourniquet device is frequently used, but that it will be displaced in the one or the other direction so that it either projects from or is set back in the outer surfaces of the lateral cheeks.
Both cases are unacceptable in the medical use of the device. In the first case, the protruding axle pin offers the possibility of slightly injuring the user's skin. The axle pin's being set back leaves a recess in which bacteria or the like can settle.
In one broad form the present invention provides a venous tourniquet device for extremities, having a casing a and a clamping lever for a strap which has one ond passing 0 through said casing, the clamping lever being pivotally supported by an axle between sidewalls of the casing, the other end of the strap being lockable to the clamping lever by a buckle means or also being passed through the casing, characterised in that the axle for said clamping lever does not extend to respective outer surfaces of the casing sidewalls such a that the outer surfaices of the sidewalls are not perforated, and said clamping lever has its lateral faces provided with projecting axle stubs that engage in grooves in inner a 25 surfaces of said casing sidewalls.
Such an arrangement of the support of the clamping lever simply and effectively prevents the occurrence of protruding parts or set back recesses. The outer surfaces of the lateral cheeks are entirely closed surfaces that are no impairment to the handling of the tourniquet device. The outer surfaces of the lateral cheeks may be entirely plain and can therefore easily be kept clean with a view to hygienics. In doing so, the support mechanism for the pivot axis of the clamping lever is in no way affected. It may even be designed stronger than before.

According to a further feature of the invention, ,'e inner surfaces of the lateral casing cheeks may be provided with grooves with which the axle stubs of the clamping lever engage. In order to fix the axle stubs, I 10 the grooves may be closed over a part or their entire length by means of filling members or the like.
The grooves serving to receive the axle stubs may extend longitudinally or transversally to the lateral 0 casing cheeks.
i It is expedient to provide the grooves with undercuts, the cross section of the filling members being adapted to the undercut groove. The filling members may be fixed in the grooves in tight fitting engagement. Fixing the filling members in the grooves can also be 4 i obtained using locking studs or the like or notches or the like.
The invention will be explained with respect to the embodiments illustrated in the drawings.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section and a schematic illustration of an embodiment of a venous tourniquet device according to the invention.

0 0o 00 0 000 0 o 0 The venous tourniquet device 1 for extremities compri- 00 0 Sa ses a lock casing 2 in which a clamping lever 3 is 0000 supported for pivoting around an axle 4. A holding member 5, to which the strap end 6 of the strap 7 is attached, can be snappingly engaged in the clamping lever 3, the engaging position of the holding member being supported by a spring 8. The other end 9 of the 9 strap is passed through the lock casing 2.
The axle 4 of the clamping lever 3 is designed with S' respect to the lock casing 2 such that it ends before the outer surfaces of the lateral casing cheeks 2a, 2b, so that the outer surfaces of the lateral surfaces are solidly closed.
The clamping lever 3 is provided with axle stubs 11 and 12 preferably protruding from the lateral faces, wlich engage in pocket-shaped recesses, e.g. bores in the lateral casing cheeks 2a and 2b. The axle stubs 11 and 12 can be pressed into a bore of the clamping lever 3. However, they may also be formed directly on -L -L i -I i F i)-

6 the clamping lever 3. There may also be provided a through-going axle pin 15 at the cllamping lever 3, which protrudes frm the lateral faces only so much that the pin does not protrude from the lateral cheeks 2a and 2b.
The recesses 13 and 14 that receive the axle stubs 11 and 12 are advantageously designed as grooves, the grooves being kept closed either over part of their length or over their entire length by means of filling members, after the axle stubs are received in the grooves.
o o o x o° The grooves 13 and 14 are advantageously formed as O o undercut grooves, the filling members being complemen- 0 tary to the cross section of the undercut groove. Figs.
6 and 7 schematically illustcate two embodiments of the filling members. The filling member 17 may be iimovably kept in the grooves by close fitting engagement therein. However, it is also possible to use a "0i filling member 18 provided with locking studs or locking lobes 19 that cause a tight fitting of the filling member in the grooves 13, 14.

However, it is also feasible to provide the lock casing with grooves that extend vertical to the Longitudinal axis thereof (Figs. 8, In this case, the clamping lever with its axle stub is inserted into the grooves 21 from ebove. A correspondingly fitting filling member closes the grooves 21 from above.
Further, it is possible to provide the insides of the lateral cheeks of the lock casing with fixed axle *4 -7 stubs that engage in correspondingly guided grooves of the clamping lever, the closing of the grooves being effected by fitting filling members.

Claims (7)

  1. 2. The venous tourniquet device according to claim 1, characterised in that said grooves can be closed with filling members over part(s) or along their entire length. 004 3. The venous tourniquet device according to claims 1 or "01 20 2, characterised in that grooves in the inner surfaces of said casing sidewalls extend longitudinally and parallel *to the strap passing through the casing.
  2. 4. The venous tourniquet device according to one of claims 1 or 2, characterised in that said grooves extend orthogonally to the strap passing through the casing in said casing sidewalls. The venous tourniquet device according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that said grooves are undercut and that said filling members are adapted to the cross section of said grooves.
  3. 6. The venous tourniquet device according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that said filling members are fixed in said grooves by tight fitting engagement.

The venous tourniquet device according to any one of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that said axle stubs form a part of an axle pin passed through said clamping lever.

The venous tourniquet device according to any one of claims 1 to 10, characterised in that said axle stubs are Sdisposed at the lateral sidewalls of the lock casing and 1 that the grooves are disposed at said clamping lever. 15 12.
