FOLDING UNDERCARRIAGE ASSEMBLY FOR USE WITH A GOLF BUGGY OR SIMILAR VEHICLE.
This invention relates generally to a hand operated, load bearing vehicle and is applicable, but not confined to, a golf buggy and will hereinafter be described in that application.
The aim of the invention is to provide a means of folding V the wheel assembly of a golf buggy with or without the golf bag in place, in order to achieve a flat configuration C o© S. 10 for storage in a minimum of space.
cc 0 oo. o The invention consists of the numbered items shown on C C ,CO drawings A and B and is described as follows:- S0Drawing A Figure 1 shows in elevation the view from the front of the vehicle and the relative 1 positions of all components to each other and Sto the vehicle centreline, in the rolling o position.
c Figure 2 shows the plan view according to Figure 1 S°and the relative positions of the components °o 20 to each other and to the vehicle centreline.
o 0 Drawing B Figure 3 shows the plan view according to Figure 2 and the new relationship of the assembly to the vehicle centreline after rotation to the folded position.
Figure 4 shows in elevation according to Figure 3 the component relationship in the folded position.

Suitable wheels 1 are mounted on the lower end of stub axles 2 which are attached to the main axle 3 by single retaining bolts 4 permitting the stub axles 2 to rotate from a position of 10 degrees past verticle, where they are stopped overcentre against the ends of the main axle 3 Figure 1 to a position of, horizontal and parallel to the main axle 3 Figure 4.
The plate 5 is mounted on the top and in the centre of the main axle 3 by a single bolt 6 and is free to rotate around bolt 6.
Push/pull rods 7 are fitted, fixed at one end into a hole o°o at the upper end of the stub axle 2, and at the other end o e0'40 into a hole in the plate 0 0 a Rotation of the main axle 3 in relation to the plate will produce a corresponding movement of the wheels 1 around the retaining bolts 4 acting through the push rcds 7.
The assembly is so designed that a 45 degree rotation of the main axle 3 in relation to the plate 5 will move the wheels from the rolling position as in drawing A figures 1 0 and 2 to the flat packed position shown in drawing B figures 3 and 4 and that rotation of the main axle 3 to achieve this will also align the whole assembly from right angles, to parallel to, the centreline of the buggy.
This rotational action, which can be either through a lever or by directly moving the main axle 3 by hand, permits the assembly to be altered from flat packed to rolling position wheels in contact with the ground for use without the removal or addition of any components.
The assembly in use would be attached to the body or framework of the vehicle by the plate 5 and when used as a golf buggy the plate 5 would be permanently attached to a suitable frame and the golf bag left in the frame or removed as required without affecting the action of the
V-\
X
i wheel assembly.

Page 3 Materials suitable for the construction of the assembly can be, but are not confined to, steel, aluminium and plastic with the preferred being alum'inium.
