Abstract
In order to obtain goggles or visors which have uniformly good mechanical and optical properties, in particular high resistance to deformation and scratching, as well as non-fogging and transparency, and which can be manufactured industrially in a cost-effective manner, it is proposed that the panel (3) consist of two transparent plastic panels (4, 5) connected by means of an adhesive, the inner panel (5) being a cellulose derivative panel whose surface is glued to the second panel (4) by means of a transparent adhesive based on silicone rubber, with the formation of an adhesive layer (6). <IMAGE>

rv 004 a 4 4 t 4 Skiing Goggles, Protective Goggles, Motorcyclist's Helmet Visor and the Like FIELD OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to skiing goggles, protective goggles, motorcyclists' helmet visors- or the like, with a plate comprising, two transparent pieces of plastic joined together' by means of an adhesive.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Very dlifferent claims, sometimes competing one with the other, are made upon such goggles and their transparent pieces. In particular, the goggles, e.g. itl the case of skiing goggles, when they are carried swinging from the arm, must be able to be wound around, so that the transparent pieces must exhibit a relatively high degree of elasticity. Furthermore, tor the achievement of satisfact,.r y optical qualities, the transparence 2 of the sight pieces must be good. The sight piece must exhibit on its outside as high as possible a resistance to scratching and on the inside .i must cloud or dim as little as possible.
In German patent application 33 23 419 and German patent application 32 o1 960 a description is given of skiing goggles with sight pieces which consist of two pieces which are glued with each other along their edge region. According to German patent application 33 23 419 it is provided that the second piece should be a very thin polycarbonate foil which is held at a distance from the supporting polycarbonate piece. Such polycarbonate pieces, however, do not 15 permit of being provided with an effective anti-dimming coating. According to German patent application 32 to 960 the two sight pieces are also held with a gap between them and glued together with the inter.- *i position of an elastic rubber-like intermediate ring.
These previously known solutions are costly in manufacturing terms and the finished sight pieces are also further unsatisfactory in use as, on the one hand, a relatively thin foil is exposed to the danger of injury, and, on the other hand, two sight pieces, 25 having their own rigidity, and joined with a space between them, have a relatively small wrapping around facility.
It is furthermore known to apply onto a transparent 30 plastic piece, by chemical means, a coating for the achievement of an anti-dimming or anti-cloud 4 ng effect.
This method, in itself very rational and effective in use in production terms, can be achieved anyway in effective manner only in the case of sight pieces 3 made from cellulose derivatives. Again, these sight pieces suffer from the drawback that they are not as scratch-resistant as would be desirable and necessary for many instances of use, as a consequence of which the desired scratch resistance can be produced with subsequent treatment at a cost which is no longer economic.
As opposed to this, with polycarbonate sight pieces, scratch resistance can be improved by the application of a corresponding coating of lacquer.
0 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION s: 15 On the basis of this, the invention has for its object to produce spectacles or a visor of the type first defined hereinabove in such a manner that the sight piece is capable of being wound around, that it exhibits a good resistance to scratches on the outside, and that a dimming or clouding of the inside is avoided.
This object is achieved accovding to the invention in that at least one of the two sight pieces is a cellulose derivative piece which is glued flat with the second piece by means of a transparent silicone-rubber-based adhesive.
I y means of such a flat surface glueing the favourable properties of a bonding piece, i.e. in particular a very high mechanical resistance are achieved. The adhesive used, based on silicone ribber, has a per se known vo'ry good transparence, so that surface glueing, can be achieved, and in addition to that, it is characterised by a certain elasticity and a low heat con- 4 ductivity, so that, as in the case of sight pieces disposed with a gap between them, a dimming or clouding of the inside is considerably prevented already on account of the heat insulation. In addition, the use of a cellulose derivative piece makes it possible additionally to apply an anti-dimming coating onto the inside of the sight piece. Finally, the bonding piece according to the invention can also be produced particularly economically in manufacturing terms, as the sight piece bonding as such can be made in the form of flat plates and the individual sight pieces can be punched out of said plates, so that no individual glueing of the two part pieces is necessary during manufacture.
o Preferably it is providea that the adhesive should |be made on the basis of polydiacryl, polydiaryl or 4 polyalkylaryl siloxanes with reactive, particularly acid end groups. Such adhesives meet the specific claims for their use in, skiing goggles in that they exhibit very high transparence, elesticity of their own, and low heat conductivity.
It is particularly advantageously provided that the I s 25 second sight piece should be a polycarbonate piece.
It is possible to provide this polycarbonate piece in per se known manner, using very economic manufac- Sturing techniques and with high effectiveness, on their outer side with a coating which increases resistances to scratching. On the other hand, the cellulose derivative sight piece may be provided on its outside with an anti-misting coating, which may be achieved in particular by saponification of the surface of the cellulose derivative sight piece.
I,'
Such a bonding piece, which is formed by means of a surface glued polycarbonate piece with a cellulose derivative piece and which, in the state of use of the goggles or of the visor, has externally an outstandingly high resistance to scratching and internally high exemption from misting or clouding, will meet in ideal manner the special claims made upon it.
Further characteristics, advantages and particulars of the invention will be supplied by the following description of a preferred method of embodiment on the basis of the drawing.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic, perspective view of skiing goggles according to the invention, and Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic section through the sight piece of skiing goggles, protective goggles, a visor, etc.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Skiing goggles represented in Fig. 1 comprise a flexible plastic frame 1, on the outside of which a holding strip 2 is secured, and which takes up a transparent sight piece 3 made from one single piece.
Sight piece 3 comprises, according to the sectional representation in Fig. 2, a transparent plastic piece 4 of polycarbonate and a transparent piece 5 in a cellulose derivative, in the example of embodiment, cellulose acetate. The two pieces 4, 5 are, surface-glued by 7' 77t i 6 means of an adhesive layer 6 which is made of silicone rubber, such as, known in the trade under the name of "Wacker RTV-2". The thickness dlof adhesive is 70 while the thicknesses d 2 or d 3 of the polycar- S bonate piece 4 or of the cellulose acetate piece are in each case 0.6 mm.
Sight piece 3 is fitted into the frame 1 in such a manner that the polycarbonate piece 4 is outside .0 and the cellulose acetate piece 5 is inside.
The outside of the polycarbonate piece 4 is provided in the per se known manner with a lacquer 7, by means of which the surface hardness and therby the resistance to scratching are substantially increased. The cellulose acetate piece 5 is saponified on the side facing the inside of the goggles, whereby, as a consiquence of this chemical process, a layer 8 is created which acts against a misting or clouding of the piece.
