Such clamping members are known from practice and have clamping parts made of spring steel, for example, together constituting one piece. The clamping parts are intended for clamping obliquely extending sides of a curtain rail, or protruding shoulders mounted at the sides, having their upper surfaces aligned with the upper surface of the curtain rail. A curtain rail of the latter type is first snapped into the opposite clamping part with some force, whereupon the rail is fixed.
Since the weight which a curtain must be able to carry, can be considerable, the clamping force of the clamping members must be in accordance with it. However, this also involves a disadvantage, to wit in particular in mounting 20 the curtain rail. For mounting, first the required brackets or spacer brackets are mounted against wall or ceiling, whereupon the curtain rail can be snapped into the clamps mounted on the brackets. If the rail is not directly snapped into the clamping members in the correct position and would have to be moved, then there is a chance that, if one tries to slide the curtain rail while it is still clamped in the clamping members, the rail will be damaged by sliding along the spring steel and/or the attachment will come loose from the curtain brackets. Therefore, one should remove the entire curtain rail from the individual clamping members, re-position the curtain rail and fix it in the clamping members again. In case of long curtain rails; this is reasonably difficult, and a number of people will be required to realize it.
F- The object of the invention is to remove these difficulties and to provide a clamping member in which the curtain rail can be inserted into the clamping member in a simple way, and the curtain rail mounted in the clamping members can be slid into exactly the correct position.
Accordingly, the invention provides for, that the clamping member comprises a frame having a first clamping part fixedly connected to it or being part of it, with the position opposite second clamping part being movable in relation to said frame.
By further providing for, that the second clamping part can be moved, against the action of spring force exerting means, in a direction away from the first clamping part, one obtains a clamping member the curtain rail can be easily snapped into with little effort.
According to a further embodiment of the clamping members according to the invention, it is provided for, that the spring force exerting means are designed in such a way that the first and second clamping parts clamp the curtain rail with a relatively small force, or that the movement of the second clamping part by said spring force exerting means ***goes no further than a position in which the curtain rail will hang in the clamping member without actually being clamped.
25 The spring force required for this is relatively small due to which the second clamping part can be provided with a resilient portion made of plastic. However, according to a preferred embodiment it is provided for, that the second clamping part and the resilient portion are made of a resilient plastic material and constitute an entity, the resilient portion consisting substantially of two legs enclosing an angle and extending across the width of the second clamping part. Integration of the clamping part and the part which is to produce the spring force has resulted in a particularly simple design of the second clamping part which can be easily manufactured.
Apart from bringing the advantage that the rail can be easily snapped-in, such a second clamping part also brings the advantage that the curtain rail is moveable in said clamping members, which is possible without difficulty even with the greatest lengths.
Preferably, it is further provided for, that at the clamping side connecting to the clamping surface, the second clamping part has an obliquely extending surface sloping in the opposite direction in relation to the clamping surface.
This measure contributes to the fact that the curtain rail can be easily snapped-in, since on insertion, the curtain rail slides across this surface in which the second clamping part is moved in a direction away from the first clamping part owing to the force exerted onto the surface. After oo o passing the boundary line between said surface and the subsequent clamping surface, the second clamping part returns again and the curtain rail is slightly clamped or remains hanging on said two clamping parts.
According to another embodiment, for securing the second clamping portion to the frame of the clamping member it is provided for, that the second clamping part has an elongate opening, with the side opposite the side of the clamping part contacting the frame having an obliquely extending staggering at the level of said elongate opening, 25 and with said obliquely extending staggering sloping in the same direction as the clamping surface of said second clamping part. The obliquely extending staggering is intended for, in cooperation with a screw or bolt having a countersunk head, by tightening the bolt or screw moving the second clamping part further in the direction of a rail to be clamped or bringing it against the rail with more force.
Preferably, it has also been provided for, that the outer leg of the resilient part is longer than the inner leg, and that in free condition it extends beyond the side of the second clamping part intended for contacting the frame of the clamping member. The outermost end of the outer leg will be situated in a receiving part of the frame, in which the clamping part will engage retaining means or securing means in a first position and at a small distance from the frame.
This brings the additional advantage that on inserting the curtain rail, the second clamping part is able to tilt slightly, as a result of which the plane against which the curtain rail will be situated, will get in a steeper position and the force exerted on the curtain rail can be transmitted even better. At the same time, the contact surface of the second clamping part with the frame, at least the part of it that will slide across the frame, is smaller with a 9.
slightly tilted second clamping part. This can be improved further by providing one or more recessions at this side of the second clamping part.
The fact that in the first position, the second clamping part is at some distance from the frame, provides for that the curtain rail will not be clamped against the frame or only with minimal force, which contributes to the fact that the curtain rail can be easily moved within the clamping members.
An embodiment of a clamping member according to the invention is further explained by means of the drawing, in which 25 Fig. 1 illustrates a side view of a clamping member; Fig. 2 illustrates a bottom view of a clamping member; Fig. 3 illustrates a side view of a clamping member, with a curtain rail to be mounted in the clamping member in cross-section; and Fig. 4 illustrates a side view of a clamping member, with a curtain rail mounted in said clamping member in cross-section.
In Fig. 1, 1 indicates the frame of the clamping member at one end being provided with a first clamping part 2 and on which a second clamping member 3 movable in relation to the frame 1 is mounted. The second clamping part 3 is preferably made of a resilient plastic and constitutes an entity, in which the spring force is determined by the legs 4, mounted at the side turned away from the clamping side. The end 6 of the leg 5 of said second clamping part 3 is located in receiving part 7, which in this example consists of a flange of the frame situated at the end of the frame opposite the first clamping part.
Frame 1 is further provided with side walls 8, 9 between which said second clamping part is located. Said side walls 8, 9 are provided with inwardly projecting lips 10, 11 which are meant as retaining means for said second clamping part. Said lips end between the leg 4 and a stagger 12 provided at this side of the clamping part, and serve for holding the clamping part within the clamping member when further securing means have not yet been mounted.
Further securing means can be a screw or bolt 13 by which the clamping member can be directly mounted on a 9° ceiling, for example, or against a curtain rail bracket, as indicated schematically by 16 in the Figure. To this end, an elongate hole 14 has been made in the second clamping part and a circular opening 15 has been made in the frame 1, having a diameter a little larger than the diameter of screw or bolt 13. The enlongate hole 14 provides the clamping 25 portion enough freedom of movement to be able to insert a curtain rail into the clamping member and clamp it.
Fig. 3 shows the clamping member in which a rail 17, being provided with shoulders 18, 19, has one side put in the fixed first clamping part and has the second shoulder 18 engaging the surface 20 of the second clamping part. By pushing the curtain rail further upward, the second clamping part slides sidewardly against the spring force of said legs 4, 5, until the shoulder 18 passes the boundary 23 between the surface 20 and the clamping surface 23 and the second clamping part springs back. On pushing the curtain rail upwards in the clamping member the second clamping part may tilt slightly due to the space provided to the screw or bolt 13 by the elongate hole 14. As a result of this, the surface will get in a steeper position, due to which it is yet easier to move the clamping part laterally.
The position thus attained is illustrated in Fig. 4, in which the respective clamping surfaces 21, 22 of the first and second clamping parts engage the shoulders 18, 19 of the curtain rail 17. In this example, the legs 4, 5 of the second clamping member are closer together than in the initial situation, and the curtain rail is held within the clamping member with a certain clamping force. Said clamping force is relatively small and moving the curtain rail within a number of clamping members can be effected with little effort, as a result of which exact positioning of the curtain rail is possible without difficulty.
Securing the second clamping part takes place by tightening the screw or bolt 13, which is preferably a screw or bolt 13 having a countersunk head, in which the oblique side of the countersunk head will engage the oblique side of the stagger 12, and the second clamping part is pushed in the direction of the first clamping part 2 by tightening of the screw or bolt 13. In this way, a reliable clamping of the rail 17 is guaranteed.
25 In the given example, a clamping member having a separate frame that can be mounted on curtain rail brackets has been explained, but it will be clear that it is also possible to mount the clamping member directly onto a curtain rail bracket without any separate frame.

Claims (8)

  1. 2. Clamping member according to claim 1, characterized in that the second clamping part can be moved, against the action of spring force exerting means, in a direction away from the first clamping part.
  2. 3. Clamping member according to claim 2, characterized 15 in that the second clamping part at the side opposite the clamping side of the clamping part has resilient part made 0: ~of a resilient material.
  3. 4. Clamping member according to claim 3, characterized in that the second clamping part and the resilient portion 20 are made of a resilient plastic material and constitute an o. entity, the resilient portion consisting substantially of *000 two legs enclosing an angle.
  4. 5. Clamping member according to claim 4, characterized 0 in that said legs enclosing an angle extend across the width of the second clamping part.
  5. 6. Clamping member according to claims 1 5, charac- terized in that securing means have been provided, by which the second clamping part can be brought from a first positi- on, in which at least a portion of the second clamping part is at some distance from the frame, to a second position engaging the frame.
  6. 7. Clamping member according to claim 6, characterized in that the outer leg of the resilient part is longer than the inner leg, and that in free condition it extends beyond the side of the second clamping part intended for contacting the frame of the clamping member.
  7. 8. Clamping member according to claims 1 7, charac- terized in that the second clamping part has an obliquely extending surface sloping in the opposite direction in relation to the clamping surface.

Clamping member according to claims 1 8, charac- terized in that for securing the second clamping portion to the frame of the clamping member it is provided for, that the second clamping part has an elongate opening, with the side opposite the side of the clamping part contacting the frame having an obliquely extending staggering at the level ~of said elongate opening, and with said obliquely extending staggering sloping in the same direction as the clamping surface of said second clamping part. 9.. Clamping member according to claims 1 9, charac- terized in that the frame is provided with a receiving part for receiving the end of the outer leg of the resilient part of said second clamping member, and at the level of the second clamping part of flanged sides, the sides mounting lips ending between the inner leg of the resilient part and 999 the staggering extending obliquely at the level of the securing hole.
